Salzwedel

The bathroom was modern and, with the exception of a few mold stains, okay. The bed was going like this - a new mattress, the other one stretched out. Otherwise, the equipment was right and it was clean. The breakfast was fine, with the service being rather in a bad mood, except for a young really incredibly good employee.

For a few nights, all right.

We had a very nice receptionist and kitchen staff waiting for us just before the end of the holiday, but we were simply served nicely, casually and deliciously. The food was perfect and our room was bright and modern. Full score.

Perfect service

The hotel to the post office fits nicely into the romantic old town scene of Salzwedel. The rooms are unexpectedly large for a specialist workshop building, but with construction of a rather low ceiling height. The restaurant is - unfortunately - furnished properly, the food is cooked with love and is served quite quickly. The heart of the old town can be reached in a few minutes on foot.

Comfortable and with good food

For one night or another, the hotel is very well suited to the mail. For longer stays, you would like more service. It is centrally located in the city center, and all the sights can be reached on foot. The rooms are clean, but the whole ambiance, even if packed in a very beautiful old town ensemble, is more like a boarding house, since it is a hotel. The breakfast is simple but sufficient, especially since it is also cheap. As I said, price - performance is true.

Price performance is correct

We stayed for three nights at the end of July, in a party of nine.We were the only ones of our group to be given a room in the main building. The room was allegedly a double, although the beds were separated by a wardrobe and half the bathroom, so seeing your partner was difficult, let alone having a conversation. The beds were squashed in under the eaves, which made sitting up in bed impossible.  In fact, the eaves took up so much of the room that my tall(ish) husband could only stand up in the middle.
Our main complaint is that the restaurant , bar and beer garden were all closed, apparently because the owners had gone on holiday, and that we were given virtually no information.  The man who showed us to our room promptly disappeared, and, apart from two women serving breakfast we saw no other staff.  The hotel was completely locked up for the rest of the day and evening.  Coming back from our first evening out in the town, we couldn't find out how to get in to the hotel, and had to find a friendly German to help us work the esoteric lock.
The bathroom was clean and light, but the shower didn't work properly.  It kept shifting from hot to cold, but there was nobody we could tell.
There was no information in the room, apart from the wi-fi code - eg. breakfast and checkout times.
Our room was at the front corner, directly opposite a chruch bell which struck every fifteen minutes, and gave an extra wake up peal at 7.00 am. A more distant church joined in, a couple of seconds later.  Obviously, not the fault of the hotel as such, but there was no staff for us to ask for another room.
We resent paying for facilities which were not available (bar, restaurant, beer garden) and wrote immediately to the owners by e mail and snail mail, in German.  We have  still not had  the courtesy of any response from them, hence this negative review.

Disappointing and unhelpful

This hotel is well situated near the centre of the lovely old town of Salzwedel, only 12 minutes walk from the station. Our room was in an annexe, up an uneven and sloping wooden spiral staircase which could be difficult for people with walking problems. In addition, at night the automatic light cuts out before slower walkers have reached the top, leaving you in complete darkness on a dangerous staircase. The sensors are only at the beginning and on each floor level, not on the stairs themselves. We needed to unlock 3 doors to get into our room, the front door, one from the stairs to our landing and the bedroom itself. You also had to use the key to unlock all the doors to leave and I feel that this could present problems in the case of a fire. The room was very good, bright, spacious and clean with a comfortable large double bed. The bathroom was adequate and also clean. Flannels were provided as well as towels, quite unusual. We arrived at a time when the weather was very hot and, as there is no air conditioning, kept the windows open all night. However, there were not just one, but two nearby church clocks that chimed on every quarter of an hour throughout the night. We were tired and soon got used to it, but it could be a problem for some people. Breakfast was across the road in the main building and it was very pleasant; a continental breakfast with boiled eggs, cereals, meat, cheese, rolls, fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. This room was also bright and spacious and the food was regularly topped up by the staff. The nearby streets are very quiet and parking doesn't seem to be a problem. We logged onto the free wifi quite easily but found it didn't work until Monday morning, three days after our arrival. I note similar comments from other guests so there seems to be a problem here. However, our main complaint was that the main restaurant and bar were closed for a two-week period at the end of July and beginning of August while the owners/managers were on holiday. We had booked, as a group of 11, some months before and this had not been explained to us until we read it on a notice outside the front of the hotel on our arrival. It wasn't a great problem as there are plenty of restaurants in the town centre, but it would have been nice to have had a meeting place in the hotel where we could have taken a drink together. I don't know who the people were who served our breakfast, but they were efficient, although an occasional smile would have been appreciated. I had the feeling we were preventing them from doing other things. Perhaps that was the case if they were standing in for the owners. Overall we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, although I think it was rather expensive for what it offered.

A pleasant but basic hotel in a quaint part of this old town,but there are some issues.

It‘s a simple and unpretentious place offering just what you need. Even though interiors win no beauty price, baths are no luxury and some bedrooms smell a little too dusty, the atmosphere within Salzwedel‘s timber framed old town and the friendly managing family make this place our favorite place for sleepovers. I have to admit, that this also is because there’s not much choice in town. 

Recommendations: 
- Go for Hansehof bedrooms 
- Have a look at the beautiful courtyard and ballroom of Hansehof
- Bring shampoo and bodylotion (there only is hand soap in the bathroom)


Best Choice in Town 🤷‍♀️

As already described, it is an old workshop house with certainly different rooms. Mine was spacious and large, but the furnishings were quite old and, as always, tasteful. Friendly reception and a sufficient breakfast buffet. Enough free parking in front of the house. All for the price.

That's enough.

We decided to stay in Salzwedel on a Monday night. It wasn't easy. The hotel had Rugtag at the post office. The first time it sounded like nothing happened. We were on our way back when the owner suddenly came up to us and offered the DZ we wanted. The room was on the first floor, four windows, and it matched the ideas for that night. The big free stream of water was just right for us, because there was nothing else in the hotel on Monday. The very friendly owner explained everything to us and gave us another restaurant, the Salzwedel opened on Monday from 6:00 p.m. We went to the old tip and the breakfast was also in order. We talked to guests at an old church and we were told to get some information about the cost and price. The hotel was located in a beautiful park. The hotel was not open for many people on Monday night, because we could not get any more information about it. The hotel was located in the Salzwedel Park.

Short vacation

The hotel room I stayed in is separate to the main building and offers basic but clean accommodation. Staying on business it was a shame that wifi is not available in the room. The local area is very quiet in the evenings.
