Entrance somewhat daunting with noisy major renovations upon arrival in mid-afternoon. Compensated for by the receptionist bringing us both mugs of excellent local beer to our room. Rooms light and bright and nicely modernized.

Would definitely stay again 

The hotel is partially under renovation and the restaurant is closed. Nice yeah, but ok.

If you plan to come on a Tuesday, keep in mind that all restaurants are closed, except 1 which is obviously fully booked (Sudhaus), and the closest open is at 7 km away. That’s what I have been proposed at the reception, careless about the fact I had just drove 700 km and the last thing I wanted was to take my car again.
Not even a biergarten around, the absolute nothingness. 
It’a not the hotel’s fault. But is it possible not to ensure to the guests the possibility to have dinner somewhere in town ?

Good hotel - but worse experience in Germany ever

We had booked a double room while visiting the pottery market in Dec 2018, and here are our comments:

1. Small and quiet room with a decent bed, perfectly sufficient for a short stay. Must say though that the curtains did not sufficiently keep out the light coming from the courtyard during the night, more light-absorbing curtains would have been appreciated.
2. Bathroom quite dated and in need of repair, also not very functional. The shower wall had a visible hole where the fixture was. Most all of the bath fixtures were wobbly and the sliding shower doors did not open/close smoothly at all and in the process felt like it might fall apart. It was difficult and time-consuming to find a comfortable water temperature setting because the handle did not move smoothly either - it was either too cold or too hot. 
The shelf above the sink held a Kleenex box, standing on its long narrow side, but it was not attached anywhere, so one had to take great care not to pull a Kleenex out and with it move the whole box off the shelf. Hooks on the walls were rather tiny plastic numbers where I would have been very reluctant to hang my travel kit for fear of all of it coming off the wall. Other than the narrow sink shelf which was half covered with the Kleenex box there were no other surfaces to put things. I found this to be tedious and not functional.
On the upside, there were enough towels, and there were also little guest-size bottles of shower gel, shampoo and body lotion, none of which we used. Much appreciated was the large make-up mirror.
The floor of the bathroom was dark blue vinyl with round, raised dots - reminiscent more of a storage room than a comfortable modern bathroom. 
All in all, we were happy to get in and out of that bath quickly. While it was very clean, it just didn't make for a great experience. Updating is needed here!
3. This hotel had a tucked-away elevator in a different part of the hotel without direct access from the lobby but it seems that it was not meant for guests. Our room was on the third floor and climbing these stairs, especially with luggage, was not a pleasant experience. The reception staff did not point out the elevator and when we finally found it, it seems that it was used for freight, not for guests - it was full of cases of beverages with no room for people.

Judging from the other reviews here, some rooms might be renovated/updated but ours wasn't. Which is especially strange because that hotel did not seem to be full at all at the time of our stay.

Don't think we would stay there again. It wasn't horrible but it also wasn't great.

Dated but clean

We attended a whiskey tasting event at the castle, and had a wonderful stay. We were in the renovated rooms which were lovely with beautiful views. We also had a delicious dinner in the on-site restaurant. I felt totally pampered, and highly recommend a visit.

What a delight!

Fresh and modern interiors. No minibar nor waterboiler. There were no warmwater in the shower so we notified the staff with this and they were very helpful. We managed without it due to our one-night visit. Nice breakfast buffe but with no lactose and glutenfree alternatives.

Modern with a feel of living history

Stayed for one night.
Very nice room and bathroom.
Very high ceiling.
Was undergoing restoring, but overall a very nice castle.
Too bad the restaurant was closed mon-wen. We stayed there on a Tuesday , and almost every restaurant in town was closed. 
Breakfast was was just ok.

Very nice castle

We stay just 2 nights . This is really 18 century castle. Easy parking. Nice and clean. Rooms are modern and clean. Nice breakfast and good food. Very nice staff. Been very polite, good English speaking. And made for us a good favor. We had freinds to come for breakfast. They did not charge them. Thank you.
