Location, location, location. You are literally in the shadow of Ulmer Münster cathedral - the tallest and perhaps largest in the world. It has pews to hold 10,000 people. I could have thrown a tennis ball and bounced it off the wall of the cathedral from my third floor room. The views in the evening and morning were spectacular, as were the bells. The room itself (No.28, third floor) was quirky in layout, but that made it more fun. They’ve been updated nicely, with newer bathroom fixtures.  Luxurious and flawless wouldn’t describe the room, but unique, fun, comfortable, hip, clean, and a few minor imperfections would. We opened the three windows wide, let the cool night air in, and it was magical.  It had two rooms and two showers, a bunk bed and a standard double bed. Nice duvets, a sitting room. Toilet is kind of…open. There is only a sliding, frosted glass door shutting it off from the rest of the room - kind of amusing. One of the showers is off the sitting room, also lightly frosted glass. All of this would be fine for a family. Less so for two couples, or a group of four friends. Kids though, and adventurous parents, would love it.

Got here Sunday afternoon 5ish ....no one at reception  keys left in safe ( no problem) rooms clean... but only see through blinds . not good for keeping out the light glad I stayed in Oct .. also possible to see through in the morning  .. no password for Wi-Fi.. great ... got up at 06.30 to have a shower .. NO hot water .. no one at reception when I came back from a walk to get coffee at 07.30 .. for the price I was hopping for breakfast.... all in all for the price I paid for 2 rooms I wouldn't stay here again

Booked online without unfortunately reading the reviews (25th July 2018). Arrived fairly late and very tired after traveling from UK. The receptionist wasn’t pleasant as she was finishing her shift. The hotel has a very central position, it has no parking space for which you have to do a long walk. 
The other reviews about the church bells were accurate; they ring through the night every fifteen minutes. The window wouldn’t close so the noise was really bad.
 The room was really basic, a lots of dead flies on the windowsill, hair on the armchairs. Hair in a bed and yellow crusts on the shower tray in both shower cubicles. 
This is the worst hotel that we have stayed in.

Booked online without, unfortunately, reading the reviews. Actually the hotel has a very central position even if it is difficult to find. It has no parking space for which you have to do a long walk. The girl at the reception was kind and smiling... and resigned. The elevator is small ... too small for 4, 3, 2 ... We climb individually. Lack of cleaning. Very old style and abandoned. The view from the window is beautiful ... But ... the double bed has a yellow spot in the middle! 3 dead wasps on the windowsill, the window does not close, hair in a bed and yellow crusts on the shower tray. The lady who was cleaning tells me in German, that this time the toilet paper is for free but the next i have to buy it! We are 4 and I point out that she gave me only 3 sets for the bed, annoyed she gives me the fourth quilt ... without duvet cover, pillow and pillowcase. Requested my money back and changed the hotel.

NO WAY

The hotel is as centrally located as possible. Unfortunately, I did not receive any information as to how to find the hotel, nor did I receive any information where to park before I arrived. Prior information would have been very helpful indeed. At reception I was not informed that there was a lift, so I had to lug my luggage up two storeys on my own.
In my opinion there is a serious safety issue. The corridors are without windows and no emergency lighting. The light switches are not illuminated. It took me two solid minutes to discover the trick as to how to unlock my door; same again from the inside. I hate to think what would happen in case of a necessary evacuation
The room was very basic. The shower was small and had to climbed into; not easy for and elderly person. No soap available at the basin. The shower head kept falling down, so it faced the wall. I had to hand hold the shower head. A face washer would have been welcome. 
There was no fridge or tea making facilities. 
You are supposed to vacate the room by 1000h, for housekeeping to be able to do their bit; however, housekeeping came in at 0900h, took away the towels without replacing them. 
Wifi worked for me and there was no restriction.
Breakfast was ample and delicious. Service staff in the restaurant couldn't be faulted.
Overall - it was okay for the two days I stayed there.

Our experiences with this hotel were strange. When we showed up in the evening there was a sign on the door saying the staff had left for the day and to call a number to open a safe to get our key. Since we were touring internationally relying on wifi this was a difficult task but we eventually got in. 

When we got in all the lights were out and the elevator was off. We were on the top floor and had to lug all our bags and our one year old in the dark. There was no parking and the hotel is in a pedestrian zone making this even more challenging. 

Wifi was spotty and the toilet didn't work the first night but was fixed the next morning. The other reviews about the church bells were accurate; they ring through the night every fifteen minutes. I was up most of the night but they didn't bother my Fiancé who is a heavy sleeper. 

Breakfast was okay, but the cafe Ulmer Stadt a few doors down does it similarly priced and much better. The rest of our stay was uneventful and we found the staff to be generally kind and responsive and the room comfortable.
