We stayed at Friesenhof for one night only, but it was a night that made us decide that we will visit this lovely hotel again. Everything was as close to perfect, just as you want it to be. On arrival we were welcomed by one of the staff that showed us to our rooms, and gave us all the useful information about the hotel and the surroundings 
The rooms were impeccable with lovely beds and fluffy cushions and duvets. The room aswell as the bathroom was clean and tidy. We had a nice balcony overlooking the large garden where birds sang. The breakfast had everything you possible can ask for and more, meaning a glas of bubbly if you like.

We fell in love, in both the hotel and the island and will most certainly come back again next year, but then for a much longer stay

A hidden gem, on a secret island

This is a darling small place tucked away on the island of Sylt in northwestern Germany.  The island is well known to Germans but I (an American) had never heard of it until reading about it in "Backroads Germany" guide (the Schleswig-Holstein region).
Hotel Friesenhof is a 3 star property so if you have 4 and 5 star expectations, maybe this is not the place for you.  However, I can highly recommend it.  Although it is not on the beach, nowhere is Sylt is far from a beach and you can walk to one from here (and get some exercise).  You may need the exercise after the excellent buffet breakfast.  Even if you are not staying at the hotel, the breakfast is a value at 16 euro per person.
The young woman proprietor is friendly and speaks English.  The hotel has been in her family for 4 generations.
Rooms are on the small side but we had a lovely one facing a huge beautiful garden.  For me, the garden was worth a dozen beaches.  They grow fresh fruit and vegetables in the garden to serve to guests; there is also a grassy lawn where you can set up a chair and relax.
There are some drawbacks, for Americans at least, to consider.  Most surprising, perhaps, is that they do not accept credit cards: you have to pay cash.  The rooms may be considered "old fashioned" and may (to some senses of smell) need "airing".  The pillows are weirdly flat and squishy: why even bother HAVING a pillow like that?  But we have run across similar pillows elsewhere in Germany.
We stayed 2 nights and overall we were very pleased.

A gem tucked away in a garden

Very nice hotel in Wenningstedt not by the seaside but not far from it. We had a doulble and the room was quite large with a balcony towards the big garden. The breakfast was excellent on the first morning but unfortunately  on the second the rate of filling the buffet table was not as quick. There is even the possibility to have a glass of bubbly with your breakfast! The staff was very nice and speak english which is not always the case in Germany. The only drawback was that they do not accept credit cards but you have to go to an ATM machine around the corner to pay in cash. Fortunately we had been forwarned of this by other travellers.
