it was a lovely family meal, too hot in the room in the restaurant - no air conditioning, friendly confident staff in being able to understand our mix of english and german words. food well cooked and tasted great. looks out onto the beautiful market square.

Traditional little family-owned hotel. There's no real reception, you go and ask at the bar. Very helpful staff, big and clean room and delicious food. If you are in the corner I suggest to stay here, you won't regret!

Such a surprise

We stayed in Hotel Ickhorn for 2 nights, as the hotel is located in a pedestrian area we asked about parking. This is located under the Sparkesse building but very few spaces. The staff were welcoming and really nice, the owners however were aloof. We were handed our key and that was it, the lady owner was off. No information regarding the room, breakfast times etc. Our room was on the first floor, a decent sized room with a good bathroom.  Later on returning to the hotel we entered our room to hear lots of talking and on looking out our bedroom window there were people sitting at tables and chairs, drinking, smoking and on their phones. This area is directly outside room 8 bedroom window.  We had to close the window and shut the curtains. A good idea to have a sitting area outside but NOT right beside a bedroom window! The hotel is well situated around a lovely market square and a good location for travelling to other towns. The restaurant is good but owner refused to add meal bill to our hotel bill, meals in the restaurant have to be paid separately IN CASH. The owner (husband) telephoned our room to rebuke us for locking the back door access to the Hotel rooms. You need a key from the street but apparently you don't from inside. He said 'Did you lock that door just now? Well don't because it's a fire escape!' Really, a lockable fire escape with no notices. Perhaps if either of the owners had taken the time to welcome us and explain normal booking in info, we would have known. He also totally ignores guests while he's in the bar. Owners and their attitude let this lovely hotel down.

Beware of accepting Room 8.

Hotel located right in the center of Werne. Great location on the walking alley near shops, restaurants etc.
Poor WiFi, average rooms, This is a hotel our company uses for business trips.
Small size room, but good breakfast. All in all a good choice for 1or 2 nights if you need a quick access to city center.

average hotel, decent restaurant

Stayed here twice recently, first time travel agent screwed up the booking and I had to ask for the double that I thought was booked. I also ended up in room 18 which as per a previous review is too big for one person.
Last stay was booked in for 3 weeks but the wifi didn't work which is useless for a business traveller. The management hadn't even told their own staff. Eventually given a code for the private network but it didn't work in my room and the bar shut at 10pm so ended up in the corridor to get decent reception.
Checked out next day and went to the Am Kloster. That cost them over 1000 euros!
Pity as the staff are good and very helpful, management needs improving.
