The location was really good. Close to the pedestrian street and castle. 

The rooms were clean, but the decor has not changed for fifty years at least. The beds were very hard.

The breakfast was basic. Nothing special. 

Wi-fi was very bad. The router was on the ground floor and it was good there. It could however only sporadically reach the second floor.

Two mornings we were woken by the kitchen staff who had a lively talk while smoking in the inner yard. Just below our windows. 

The reception is not manned. There is only staff in the morning. The staff was nice and smiling but not really trained to work in a hotel. They did not speak a word of English and told us things that you would not normally tell a guest. 

So a very retro and basic hotel with a great location.

Very basic hotel but with a great location

The breakfast was great and the service was great. Friendly people who could speak a but of English to compensate for my bad German.  Perfect location 2 mins from the town square. Would stay there again though rooms could use a bit of a modernization. But comfy. 

Nice hotel with friendly people

Location - great location in the very center, 1 minute from the City Hall. 2 Christmas Markets nearby, as well as many restaurants, cafe and places of interest.
Reception is at the restaurant entrance. Friendly staff, helping with luggage and answering all questions. They also give you a coupon book, so you have free transport within the city and a number of discounts.
Room is clean and cozy. Styled furniture, comfortable bed, nice curtains on the windows. 
Breakfast is served at the restaurant and contains warm dishes and a variety of cold cuts. Friendly owner offers tea or coffee. 
I liked the hotel very much and would recommend it to my friends.

Amazing hotel in the center

We made a stop here because we were travelling through this wonderfull Part of Germany. Hotel Reception was welcoming, room cosy and clean. If lucky parking space behind Hotel, very restricted.  Every room individuell. Preis for room including breakfast good. The Location very Central every thing in walking distance can recommend. Wifi Not very good.

Looking at both Sides of Hartz

Staff are very friendly. Hotel is very clean. Food is good. Located close to main square of this pretty town. Hotel parking is limited. Room rates are competitive. Good base to visit the Harz national park. I would definitely stay here again.

Typical old German hotel

I've stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, and it feels like home. Cozy room, helpful and nice staff, good location (really close to some of the main attractions in Wernigerode, though it took me some time to walk to the hotel from the Bahnhof), and I enjoyed the food as well. It costs a lot more than staying in a common hostel for a lone tourist (in fact, this stay costs me most in the whole trip), but it defenitely worths.
