I have a long relationship with the Youth Hostel in Würzburg and can wholeheartedly recommend it. The whole complex has recently been renovated and the rooms are very modern, many with shower/WC. Breakfasts and meals are *very* high quality. The "JuHe" is situated about 5 minutes walk from the Old Main Bridge, meaning that you can be in the city centre in 10 minutes max.. This really now falls into the class of a budget hotel than a hostel and it is my #1 port of call for accommodation in Würzburg.

So much better than "just a youth hostel"

We had a private room with shared bathroom facilities.  It was clean and functional but very basic.  We had to make and strip our own beds and we could not see towels available for rent.  The room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good.  There seemed to be very few showers with most guests not bothering.  Lots of children running up and down the corridors and found it expensive for what we got.  Parking was in a multi-storey 10 minutes walk away.

Not the best but okay

Upon arrival at the DJH Hostel, I found out they had very limited free parking, with something like 6 or 7 spots, none of which were available at the time.  We ended up parking in about the same place, but those spots are only free after hours and we would have to move the car by 8am the next morning or pay a big fee or fine.  I checked periodically from then until we returned to the hostel for the night, and somewhere around 8pm I caught an open space and moved the car. 

It was around 5pm when we checked into the hostel, getting another surprise.  Apparently when I'd made the reservations in Charleston, I'd made them for the 6th through the 8th, not the 4th through the 6th!  Luckily, they had a private double room available for a few extra bucks so we lucked out.  The down side was we had to take an elevator up 3 floors, then climb a spiral staircase to the 4th floor where our room was.  Needless to say, it was not easy negotiating a spiral staircase with big pieces of luggage!  The room is quite nice though, with plenty of room, two twin beds together, and a clean, well equipped bathroom.  The hostel itself is quite modern inside, with a large cafeteria and a lounge area.

The free breakfast stopped being served at 9:30, so we quickly got dressed and went down to the cafeteria on the ground floor.  Breakfast consisted of various types of meats and cheeses, breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and coffee/tea.

Great First Stop on the Romantic Road

Picturesque location sandwiched between the Main river and Marienberg Fortress towering dramatically high above it. The building is huge even by German youth hostel standards. Initially I thought it might be a former monastery because of the austere, spacious ambience complete with large religious sculptures, but it turned out it actually used to be a prison, although you would never know. There is a fair chance that you will have a dorm all to yourself, as individual travellers are rare. My only complaint is, I would have liked it to have a TV room and/or library to sit in in the evening. Although that is probably in the pipeline, since they are planning to close for renovation in the low season. Not that there is any real or urgent reason for it, except the rather severe decor and lack of a living/games room/cafe/bar as youth hostels usually have.

Supremely comfortable youth hostel

We loved hostel in an old building with views to the river and castle on the other side. Location is perfect - just a short walk from the old town and picturesque bridge. Receptionists were wery helpfull. The parking space near the hostel was full but they told us for nearby parking space. We had a family room with four beds and insite bathroom. There was a wellcome surprise on the table - gummy bonbons in the shape of sheeps and chocolates!
Everything was perfectly clean and we had a good sleep. Breakfast is served on the 1st floor in a big restaurant. The food was plenty and with lots of selecton. I liked different varieties of cheese.

perfect location, excellent value

I loved that I was able to walk to the center of Wurzburg in a few minutes from this hostel for a very affordable price. The rooms were very clean, and the breakfast was quite good. It's a very large hostel but still maintained a friendly, charming atmosphere. I would absolutely stay here again.
