The week we stayed in September coincided with the huge cloud mass that caused all the flooding in Libya and Morocco so we managed about 3 hours of sunshine all week. This was a freak event and is in no way typical of the weather in September.

This was our second visit this year (we came in June and stayed in the same area). We chose this location because the views are stunning - over Almyrida and beyond to the sunset over Souda Bay), and also because you have the choice of Almyrida or Plaka for an evening out. We had a 1 bedroom apartment which was on the ground floor and our view was a little obstructed (the 2 bed apartments on the first floor have unobstructed views), but there are tables, chairs, and even a couple of sunbeds on the lawned area just outside the apartment.

The apartment sleeps 3 - one on the sofa in the living room - which is a little awkward as the bathroom is off the living room, as is the kitchen. It was perfectly adequate, with a fridge, electric hob, kettle and cutlery and plates, etc. The air-conditioned bedroom has a large double bed, wardrobe containing a (free) safe. A hairdryer is also provided.  The bathroom has a shower - no bath. Towels were provided and were changed regularly, along with bedding.

The location is perfect if you are reasonably mobile. It's a 5 minute walk downhill into Almyrida but it's quite steep coming back. Alternatively, it's a 15-20 minute walk uphill (steep in parts) to Plaka which is well worth a visit. You pass the Sunset bar on the way to Plaka. The views at sunset are breathtaking. You are seated in a 'conservatory' at the back overlooking the bay. It has to be done.

Although quite small, Almyrida has an abundance of bars and restaurants to cater for every taste. There are too many to go into detail, but we haven't had a bad meal in the 4 times we've been. The only downside, and unfortunately, it's now common practice, is paying for sunbeds and parasols. You could easily spend over £100 over the course of a fortnights holiday if you go to the beach every day. Alternatively, you could buy inflatable lilos and just leave them when you come home.

We are returning to Almyrida next year and there will be 10 of us, so we've booked a villa. If you're lucky enough to be staying at Villa Dina, I'm jealous. I would have no hesitation in recommending it. Have fun. We did, despite the weather.

Apartment was cleaned every couple of days.
A short walk from fabulous restaurants with some of the best Greek food we have ever had.
Artemis and family were really helpful and always on hand to answer any queries we had.
Would not hesitate in recommending this.

Simply Amazing

My friend and I have just returned from an 11 night stay in the two bedroomed Apartment 3, Villa Dina. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Artemis and Dina are both extremely friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our holiday. 

The apartment is extremely clean, light and airy and has a large balcony affording the most wonderful views of Almyrida with the mountains behind and a huge vista stretching across towards Chania. I can honestly say it is one of the best and most beautiful views I have ever experienced. We sat on the balcony for many hours and watching the sunset was a delight. I recommend you take binoculars as there is a lot to see for miles around. 

The  sandy beach and tavernas are only a short distance away. The beach shelves out very gradually and is ideal for swimmers of all abilities including small children. A car is definitely recommended however there is a bus which runs several times a day to Chania, a 45 minute journey which only costs €6.40 return. 

We will definitely return one day.

 Breathtaking views 

Excellent large, bright, comfortable 2 bed apartment. Fantastic view which would be difficult to beat, a Brilliant spot to watch the sunset over almiryda beach each evening.  The accommodation is in a very peaceful spot but is only a short 10 min walk to the centre of the resort and the beach.

Our hosts were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here, and would definitely consider returning for future holidays

Excellent apartments

We stayed for 5 nights here in apartment 3. More of our family, with 2 small children, had apartment 2. Artemis was there on arrival and very friendly and helpful. The apartments were very clean and spacious and nicely equipped with dishes, a kettle and coffee maker. The view from our balcony was breathtaking and I had breakfast there every morning. Restaurants, the beach, shops and a bakery are all a short walk away, but the climb up was a little difficult with the kids. Other things to note were patchy wifi and a less than comfortable bed. But honestly this apartment was so lovely and perfect for 4 of us and we would definitely stay again.

Lovely apartment with amazing view!

We have just returned from our second stay in Almyrida.  This time we stayed in Villa Dina as the the guest of the lovely Artemis.

The view was spectacular from our apartment even though we were on the ground floor.  The apartment was clean, comfortable and very well equipped.  I hadn't packed a hairdryer and when we arrived there wasn't one in the apartment either.  Artemis produced a boxed, brand new one instantly!!

We found the apartment to be very quiet at night despite being just a 5 minute walk down the hill to the hustle and bustle of Almyrida (10 minute walk back up!)

It had a good air conditioning unit which was housed in the bedroom, but did keep the whole apartment cool and comfortable even on the hottest day (41c in the shade!)

Almyrida has a great variety of restaurants catering to just about every taste.  We are both vegetarian and we did manage to eat very well during our stay.

Our favourite place for lunch and the occasional evening meal was Dimitris located right on the beach.

We are beach people and love nothing more than a quiet spot on the beach with a good book and a little shade, which is easily found in Almyrida, but we also like a little exercise so we took a 45 minute walk on a few days over to Kalyves along the coastal short cut (well signposted but quite challenging).  Breakfast was delicious and just €5 at Mistrali on Kalyves beach, consisted of full english (veg option available) toast and jams, coffee or tea and fresh orange juice, and very welcome after a ling walk!

There is plenty do do in the area which caters for every taste, active or not so...

Would we go again? probably, would we stay at Villa Dina? absolutely!
