Just left the Rou Estate with a heavy heart. It’s such a beautiful resort & we really appreciate that it was that all to rare merger of tourism & village preservation/sustainability. Each villa (it was a derelict village until 2005/6) is based on original design but with full 21st century amenities. We stayed in Acanthus which is smaller than many of the others but perfect for a family of 3-4. The on site taverna is fantastic & does not take advantage that it is the only eatery around in terms of its pricing. The entire estate is immaculate, the views breath taking & the villa names apparently reflect the garden flowers across all the seasons. They are designed by the very talented British landscape designer Jenny Gay. 
We were very well looked after by Gayle & her team who even had the foresight to send staff to the villas to close  windows & bring in the washing/towels to avoid everything being soaked in yesterday’s thunderstorm. Now that is service. Simpsons who manage the estate consistently achieve this high quality product & this is why it’s our fourth consecutive Simpsons holiday!
The road to the estate is a little hard going but well worth it when you reach this mountain haven of peace & great beauty, away from the crowds. We loved it - thank you to all at Rou, but particularly Gayle, Eleni & Simpsons for containing to reflect the best of Greek hospitality. 

A little gem

The Rou Estate is quite unique - an oasis of calm and stunning views with your own plunge pool or pool and access to a stunning shared pool. An on site restaurant (only open alternate evenings) is a helpful addition for those who do not want to prepare their own meals or make the slightly arduous trek along the 3km unmade track in the dark. That really is the only downside and for some not even that. A small trade off for the rewards of fabulous views and the tranquility the beautiful gardens, buildings and surroundings offer.

Simply the most beautiful place, fabulous views, atmosphere and surroundings.

We stayed at Cyclamen where our second eldest slept in the outhouse type building where she was extremely happy apart from a visit from a scorpion at night that soon disappeared to her relief! The rooms were lovely and our little plunge pool was nice to relax by privately or it was equally as nice to go to the infinity pool, the nicest I have ever seen. The children enjoyed the fact that on the path next to our house there was some bushes where the Rou estate cat, Twix, lived with her three kittens. Twix seemed to come accustomed to their visits with tuna and milk as my eldest used to click with her tongue and Twix and the kittens would appear for a stroke. I am aware that the family next to us also had a mother cat and kittens in their garden which were a hot topic between their kids and ours. I cannot find any fault with Rou what so ever although some sight the difficulty in getting there. For us this added to the charm and this could easily  be overcome after completing the journey down the hill at least twice so you become accustomed to it. After taking a walk around the estate my wife and I found two or three abandoned houses from the village  that I expect the restoration is in working progress? However this interested us in the history of the village and how it came to abandoned as nothing can be found online and the handbooks in our house that I read spoke of the history of the island and the area but not of Rou. We all hope to return soon and would like to thank the staff and manager for your warm reception and we all hope to return soon as last year's holiday was, as said by the children, "the best of all time."

Beautiful, classic paradise

The Rou Estate is an unusual concept.The 14 beautiful restored village houses are self catering but the development has a restaurant, spa, bar and large communal pool. It has a resident manager and staff and includes daily cleaning.You can also have groceries delivered each morning. It is therefore in many ways a hotel with huge amounts of individual space.
Rou is only sold by Simpsons Travel and the package they offer is excellent. If the treatment we received is the standard they maintain with all their properties then they are the best package travel company we have ever used.
The only down side with Rou is getting to it up very steep and narrow roads. If you are a nervous driver it could be an issue.

Stunning

The Rou Estate is a series of old village properties that have been restored using local materials and a sensitive interpretation of both the built and natural landscape. It is situated above Porta via a narrow 1.5km track. But the setting looking out towards Albania and Norther Greece is a delight. the rental properties have their own plunge pools; there are also dining, spa, and full pool facilities. the staff are all welcoming and friendly

Amazing, individual, and spectacular

We visited with friends on the second and third week of September. 
The entire village is as stunning in real life as it is on the website. Each villa is fully equipped, beautifully decorated and well maintained. (Believe me, I was lucky enough to view them all on change over day, see images) 
We stayed in Hestia, a romantically decorated and modest sized two bed villa which is one of the smaller of their properties. 
Certainly enough living space for two couples, we managed two weeks together and didn't feel like we were living on top of each other. 
The sofas in this particular apartment were absolutely fantastic, large and deep and just swallowed you up after a tiring day at sea. 
There was also a collection of books and dvds, a couple of board games and magazines which were a great touch. 
Two fridges were a welcome facility!!! Washing machine and dishwasher also! 
All fixtures and fittings are of good quality and well maintained. 
Couple of things I would do to improve privacy would be to add thicker curtains in the bedrooms because I nearly fell over a couple of times trying to hook and unhook the shutters so just left them open in the end but all we had was netting. Also I would put some taller growing plants into the wall across the entrance to the property, this wouldn't effect sun exposure in the outside area but would improve privacy and hide the car park from guests when they are enjoying the outside space. 
The road to the site is long but what it does indicate is exclusivity. 
The pool area is beautiful and practical, we only wished the restaurant was open every day. 
When we booked this break we had relaxation in mind and that is certainly what we got. But there were still some great activities to enjoy like hiring a boat to go bay hopping, walks, mo-ped hire, quadding, ferry to Corfu town etc
Greek people are so friendly and relaxed, us brits could learn a thing or two!! The food was absolutely fab, fresh home made food in every restaurant, something of a rarity in the U.K.
Lots of wasps and mozzies, I took wasp killer and mozzie deterrent everywhere with me. 
Yes I would return to Corfu, yes I would return to Rou, yes I would recommend both to friends! 



Absolutely Beautiful

We had a wonderful restful stay here. Villa was perfect and totally true to website.  Well equipped, it had all you could ever need and had very much a home away from home feel.

Gaynor and all the staff were very friendly and helped us with everything that we needed with super efficiency. 

Some people have mentioned the road up to the estate, it is made up in some places but mostly it is gravel and all single track. It may be around a mile long but with lots of drops with no barrier driving at a snail’s pace it felt longer. If you are a nervous driver it may be an issue, we never came up against anyone driving the other way, I still wonder what would happen if we did as there are only few passing places well spread out. We choose not to drive it at night.

The restaurant at Rou only opens a few nights and was pretty quiet, food there was simple but tasty, the choice was a little limited but just about enough for the nights it was open. Prices were very reasonable and service was good. 

There is a stunning pool area, the grounds were also lovely to walk round and well maintained. 

There are a few nice bays and beaches in the area with plenty of choice for short day trips out. Agni was nice, but very expensive and a tad toffee noses. The White House was also a nice setting with reasonable food. Avlaki was probably our favourite with up market food and service to match. You can also have a siesta there and afternoon swim. Just what holidays are made for.

All in all other than the tricky road to the estate we would have no hesitation in strongly recommending. We stayed in Plumbago.

Great experience

Given we were travelling in August I was slightly concerned about just how busy it would be however the Rou Estate was a fabulous, peaceful haven. We didn't venture out that much, but when we did we were pleasantly surprised that we could visit a relatively quiet beach with ease (as the photos show). 

A great place to relax, we fully utilised the onsite Garden Restaurant on all 4 nights that it was open. This was our first time with Simpson Travel and we were seriously impressed, the best bits (apart from the Rou Estate) were BA flights from T5 at a sensible time, all the Rou Estate Staff and the ease of car hire at Corfu Airport (quite possibly one if the worst airports I have experienced!). Well done Simpson Travel!

Rou Estate - Relaxing with Amazing Views

We stayed for a week and loved the stunning views and pool, the spacious, superbly equipped, villa, the support of the estate team and the BBQ night. We quickly got used to the windy rough road that takes you out to Rou. Lots of beaches and restaurants to choose from. Be sure to go to Agni one evening. Great boat hire available too.

Beautiful, great accommodation and facilties

Spent a week with 3 other couples at this fab destination ... First class self catering Villa with private pool etc ... Was well looked after by the staff at Rou and Simpson Travel. Style, Space and Quality
