We had booked three nights here, but then we decided to extend it (due to the bad weather in other regions) and then we stayed for a total of five nights. The situation is very good. It's very quiet, but still you're a few meters from the first cafes, shops and the beach. The host was soooo cordial. He took over the house from his parents that year. Our room was small, purposefully furnished, but very clean. The critical point for us is only the tiny bed that has been quieted with every move. We would immediately return (at best to a room with a bigger bed :)

A dreamful stay in Matala

We booked a room by mail in June for 2 nights in August; they confirmed the booking by replying to our email. When we arrived at about 7.30pm, an elderly lady afforded us a flat English saying that the hotel was full and there were no rooms available, treating us with sufficient air and camping the justification that in August you cannot claim to get a free room.

Scammers

It's a lovely place to stay and feel like your grandparents. It's in the middle of a quiet side street. It's got free parking in the courtyard.

In the center of Matala.

Somehow expensive, considering that the rooms are basic (and small).  I guess this is the 'matala spirit', where everything seems more expensive than the rest of Crete. Welcome to offer/demand market.
The location is quite central (hard not to, in this small town), in a nice back street. This alley leads to the 'red beach' on the other side of the hill, so don't hesitate to take a walk there.

No soap in the bathroom. Cash only. Dedicated parking in front. Nice elder people, but they will take your passport as 'deposit'.

basic comfort, nice elder couple

A small hotel in the centre of Matala on a very quiet avenue. We got a nice, clean ground floor room. Outdoor space equipped with table and chairs. A small private free garage right in front of the hotel. Warm welcome for the elderly and friendly owners. Advisable.

That's nice.

We had a small clean room on the second floor with a cozy balcony. The hostess is very friendly, always at the entrance to help or just wish you a good day. The room had a refrigerator, dishes with tools, cups and glasses. The Internet worked with interruptions, went to the Zafira cafe, used it. The parking lot is very conveniently located opposite the entrance to the building.

Nice and clean room near the sea and restaurants

Sylvia is a friendly old lady that you just have to like. The rooms are simple but complete enough and even have a refrigerator and a mini kitchen. The only critical point from my point of view: carved beds - knotty heart. Everything else fits perfectly. You can park on the grounds and only 20-30 m to the first tavern and 20 m further to the beach.

Very good location

On the way to Red Beach, we walk to the beach and the Resto, it's quiet and clean, the bathroom isn't very big, but it's not big enough for a couple, the owner is adorable, smiling, helpful, very good quality price.

Clean and authentic

I had booked 3 months earlier via their official website (on booking there was no longer availability) and they replied confirming the booking. A few days after departure I wanted to send them an advance note but they told me that it was not necessary. Since I had another booking, even before cancelling it, I explained everything to them and that it was therefore essential to have their certainty; they reiterated that I could be calm, they did not explain that concern and that the booking was safe (we had all the booking as evidence). A few days after departure I sent them a further memo (no reply).

Friendly and warm home. Large enough room, clean and comfortable, but small bathroom. Quietly insured in this house away from the main street and despite all the centre and beach a few meters walk away. Very good quality/price ratio (30 euros). Parking in flower garden in front of the house. Free wifi access. I recommend
