My sister and I booked to stay there from the 8/8/16-12/8/16 however we had to cancel as a member of our family got seriously ill with accelerated cancer and all the family was needed to be together. I notified them on the Thursday or Friday before the 8th as we only found out on the Thursday. I explained them the situation and the reason of the cancellation however they said that they could not give us the money back because their policy was to give refunds only if the cancellation was made 7days before the booking. I did explain them again the exceptional  circumstances and that the fact we got a full refund from the ferry company but nothing. At the end I got them to agree to keep the money as credit for summer next year. It's really sad that considering the circumstances they show no compassion. I am 100% certain that the room was re let considering that Ios is a very popular island amongst Greek and international tourists. Finally not looking forward to go there next year.

No exceptional circumstances

I've just come back from 10 nights at this beautiful resort. I booked this based purely on its numerous good Trip Advisor reviews and so here is mine...

I cannot find one bad thing to say about the resort, I loved every single minute of being there. I've been to many Greek islands but this was my first time to Ios and it was just idyllic. I went there to chill out and relax, not to party, and this resort was perfect for that. 

We were given free transfers to and from the port, we were picked up even after arriving from the ferry at 1am - the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

The resort is about a 15-20 minute walk to / from the port where there are plenty of restaurants and a 5 minute walk to Koumbara beach. If you are fairly fit and happy to walk you'll find it easy enough but the roads are a bit windy and up and down! There is a beautiful traditional greek taverna opposite and there's a beach bar / restaurant on Koumbara beach too.

The resort itself is beautiful and clean and the staff are really attentive and friendly. The pool is just lovely and is in really good condition, very clean, no cracked tiles etc. The staff will bring you towels and drinks and make will feel very well looked after!

I'm not the sort of person who would book an expensive, luxury hotel, I've 'roughed it' around the Greek islands before, however this place is a 3 star resort yet it feels very luxurious and special. I just love it! In short I would summarise the resort's facilities as: 

Breakfast - self-service buffet, good selection of breads, pastries, fruit, greek yoghurt, eggs, sausages, tea / coffee / juice etc.
Pool bar - does bar snacks, plus drinks and cocktails etc.
Pool area - beautiful setting and view, clean, attractive, peaceful
Staff - lovely, friendly, welcoming, attentive
Rooms - clean, modern, air-con

There is free wifi at reception but no where else on the resort, which suited me just fine. 

There is just one thing I would mention when considering Sunset Resort and that's if you are a bit older and not looking to go to Ios to party but to relax, while the Sunset Resort is perfect for this, across the bay from Koumbara beach there is a (beautiful) sunset beach bar on the hill which plays music from 3pm-12am. This is no bad reflection on Sunset Resort but it can be heard across the bay, particularly if it's windy and the sound carries across. We could hear it from our balcony, however, it wasn't bad at all, and it never once kept me awake. Our balcony had UPVC doors and with those closed and the air-con on you could barely hear it, plus it finished at 12 anyway. I don't want that to be a negative comment about Sunset, just to warn that it can be heard - however it is really not that bad so I wouldn't let it put you off.

I did not want to leave Sunset and would LOVE to go back again one day....thank you to all the wonderful staff for such an amazing holiday! X

Beautiful,, peaceful resort and stunning location

Excellent hotel , very clean with nice and quiet rooms.One of the best views for the sunset in the whole island.Large spaces in the rooms and outside with lots of trees. Very friendly people and sure i will go again...

Value for money in Ios...

We visited the 'Koumbara sunset resort' in 1995 for 1st time and it was the begining of a long love affair as it became our necessity of the summer which remains till today.Make this place your choice for your holidays of the next summer and it will be your choice for all the summers to come.

A place to visit every summer

after a few years of absence , I went back to one of my favorite islands , Ios , but definitely my favorite hotel . I understand it was closed for two seasons for some sort of renovation or something , but now its there again . The personnel is young and enthusiastic, the hotel it is very nice and very clean . they change bed sheets and towels every other day . The location is perfect, next to koumpara sandy beach , about 2/300 meters away from the main gate .There is another sandy beach about 800 meters away. Only about 1.8 kilometers away from the port and another 4 kilometers up to main town (chora). . Chora is a bar throughout.You can enjoy any kind of music, i am sure you will find your favorite one and enjoy your drink . There is a bus stop right at the entrance of the hotel taking you to the port and then to chora .For those with a car there is a free parking area opposite to the main entrance , the hotel its self is spread in a large area and it gives you the feeling of a small village . Nice rooms all with a balcony either with a sea view or garden view. You can even enjoy a walk among the "streets" with trees all around that gives you a nice feeling with that combination of sea and trees smell . The hotel is very quite away from the sound of Chora . I never give a credit of 10 but this time i will, for the breath taking sunset which you can enjoy testing the tasty cocktails at the pool bar. I never missed one . The sun is painting colors in the sky , changing them every 3/4 minutes .Nice soft music travels you deep in your dreams with this surrounding . The pool, your drink, the sunset . What else do you need? Usually in the morning most young people are still asleep having spent the night in the chora. You can enjoy a very nice breakfast,
For some it can keep them all day  along, and then enjoy a second coffee at the pool bar , making the plans of the day . There is an unbelievable nice and tasty food tavern right opposite to the hotel for which I will write separately. The food is real homemade, not touristic but exactly what the Greeks like to be served. There is also a fish tavern on the beach which also works as a bar for soft drinks and snacks in the morning by the sea side.The prises of the hotel are suitable for every pocket , Greek expresion , depending of the place of the room . all rooms are equal size . the difference is the sea or garden vew
