My wife and I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Ithaca at the Captain Yiannis Hotel in Vathy. We had a fabulous time and the hotel was perfect for us. All of the staff were so helpful and the facilities at the hotel were great. A lovely room, simple but adequate breakfast each day by the pool with lovely views of all the boats in the harbour and a short walk from the centre of Vathy which had a great selection of restaurants and shops. Such a peaceful and unspoilt place to visit and our Aegean and Iolian holiday rep. was lovely also. If you have the chance to try somewhere different then we would recommend you go. We will certainly visit again.

Fabulous week at the Hotel Captain Yiannis in Vathy

We've just returned from a lovely 2 day stay at captain Yiannis accommodation staying in a junior suite. Although basic, it is clean and the bed was super comfy, air conditioning included in the price.
What make Captain Yiannis special are the amazing views and the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble. They ordered taxis to and from the port, gave just beach towels to use after check out and let us use the facilities until our taxi arrived in the afternoon. All staff are exceptional.
The location is perfect. A beautiful 5 minute walk into Vathy and if you turn right as you leave the hotel, it is a 5 minute walk to the most amazing sea side bar. We will definitely return. Fiona Bell 

Amazing stay.

I am staying here for 2 weeks and am at the end of my 1st week. What an amazing spot. Lovely location on outskirts of Vathy but easy walk into Vathy. Great view of harbour and surrounding hills. Well appointed room, very comfortable and housekeeping come very regularly. Nice pool. Breakfasts are simple but with really nice fresh fruit and yogurt- all I needed. Staff here are great - very welcoming and have been friendly and helpful throughout my stay.

Stayed in room 4 would recommend.

Lovely location, nice room and great friendly helpful staff

Super holiday here.  It is a quick taxi ride from the port.  Ten minute walk to Vathi where you will find lots of tavernas and bars and shops and all that the harbour offers.  The staff here are super friendly and helpful.  We stayed in an apartment (looks like a bungalow) which was spacious and clean with all you need.  Also a very comfy bed, safe and modern bathroom.  We had a lovely veranda at the front with views to the entrance to the harbour - great for a drink before heading off for dinner!  There is also a drying rack positioned by the back door and gets the evening sun.  The breakfast is buffet style,  it is all well presented and covered, and the breakfast tables have a really fabulous view!  The pool area is very nice, comfy sun beds and clean pool - again with great views.  There is a bar open serving drinks and a few snacks too.  There is a very good taverna just a short walk along the waters edge if you turn right out of the hotel, also a couple of bars too.  
Great beaches are a car ride/taxi €10 ride away.  Plenty to explore on the island.  Great location and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff.

Part of our fantastic stay at Captain Yiannis was due to the fantastic help and communication from Stefanos at the hotel before we travelled.
The hotel itself is only a 7 minute walk from the port, but has the advantage of being so close to the incredible, tranquil Loutsa Beach..
En route to the beach we often stopped at the nearby (400metres) waterside tavern to enjoy a drink and snack. Also nearby is the incredible Tsibiris restaurant where we ate by the water's edge on three of our seven nights... it was fabulous.
Back in the hotel, the staff make everyone feel welcomed, and we were lucky to enjoy one of the few Ithaca hotels with a pool....so relaxing.
The final memory to describe  is the wonderful view each morning as we opened the shutters to look across the bay to the meandering waters, the hills and the boats moored near the port.  

VATHY IS A GEM

We didn't stay with Captain Yiannis - but had to cancel a booking 2 weeks before for health reasons. Stefanos was very understanding and didn't charge us the deposit. We then found we were able to go and so rebooked, but managed to arrive at (Little) Vathi on Meganisi rather than Vathi on Ithaca, with no way of getting to Captain Yiannis by ferry.  Again, Stefanos was very understanding. His attitude speaks volumes about what the service is likely to be like at Captain Yiannis when staying there!

Very honest and empathic

Capt Yiannis wasn't quite what I expected.  We booked a double room with sea view.   We had a massive balcony with an amazing view over the mouth of the sea.  Our room was very modern but the bathroom appeared a little unfinished as if they'd forgotten to tile it?    Quite a lot of steps up to our room so wouldn't suit everyone.
We booked room only so we could eat out for breakfast each day which suited us fine.   Only a 15 - 20 minute walk around the stunning harbour of Vathy and plenty of places for brunch style breakfast.  
The hotel has a lovely pool which was really quiet. 
The hotel has the potential to have the "wow" factor due to it's location, but was missing something. 
There's some fab little sunset bars and tavernas close-by and you're spoilt for choice with restaurants. 
We hired a boat for the day and went around the coast and up to Kioni - absolutely fabulous, can highly recommend. 
There's not a massive choice of hotels with pools in Vathy, so I'd probably stay again if we went to Ithaca as we absolutely loved the island, it's stunning.

The pool area was lovely lots of plants trees and flowers very pretty the rooms were quite basic but set out nicely the bathrooms were very old and needed updating the shower was very slippery

Good

This hotel is round the bay and the majority of rooms have a great view out. The rooms are a bit dated (mainly the bathroom) but are clean and tidy. The view on the balcony was the money shot though.We found the accommodation really quiet and we slept really well here.
Wifi was good by the pool but a bit patchy in the rooms. 
Breakfast was normal Greek fayre - Bread, cheese, ham, eggs, greek yogurt. We found it fine and fresh. Recommended to go and pick up and eat on your balcony as otherwise you were surrounded by wasps down at the pool area.
Staff were very friendly and helpful - helped us organise a car to explore the island. We only had one for a day as its only a tiny island.
We mainly went to the beaches by taxi - Filiatro and Sarakiniko. Our favourite was probably Filiatro with the lovely taverna Kirki there. Although Sarakiniko has a nice Kiosk that you can get food and drinks from.

Friendly, quiet accommodation with fantastic views

By looking at the pictures, it gives you the impression of high class hotel. Unfortunately, this is far from reality.  
Breakfast was poor. Extra charges were applied for a small bottle of water with the coffee or a cold coffee instead of filter coffee, or a juice that should be part of a standard breakfast. 
Bed mattresses were not comfortable, sheets were too small. No complaints about room cleaning but the staff at the pool bar preparing the breakfast were barely wearing a face mask. That makes me wonder if they followed covid rules as they should. 
However, one of the few positive things of this hotel is the view at Vathi' bay.
