We had a holiday to another destination cancelled at the last minute, we chose Karpathos and Arpathea villas after some quick research, and wow it couldn't have been any better.

We had suite number 1 which is the most private, stunning interior, even more stunning pool with the most amazing views. Beautiful sunsets every evening. The suites are just as good as the villas as far as i can tell. One thing we thought was missing in the kitchen was an oven and microwave, but we survived without it.

The service is simple but everything you need, always cleaned very nicely, and the friendly Val is always there to help you with anything you need, and on whatsapp too! If you need 5 star luxury, you are probably on the wrong island anyway! As I said, the pool and interior really are 5 star, you would pay 10 times more for something similar in Sanotrini!

Location is lovely, 5 minute drive from the nearest town where you have some grocery stores and restaurants. Well located to explore the rest of the island too. I must definitely recommend hiring a car.

I've travelled a lot and this is one of my favourite places ever, simplicity and paradise!

Paradise

Beautiful villa with amazing view! Comfortable bed, 2 bathrooms, nice living area and small kitchen with everything you need. And then the big terrace, with nice swimming pool, several seating areas, sunbeds and a nice breeze. The location is perfect as you are really close to Kedros restaurant and Finiki. Supermarket in Arkasa is also just a few kilometers away. 
Everyday cleaning, and Valanto is the nicest host. She will help you with whatever question, tips to go to and always with a big smile.

Villa with amazing (sunset) view

We came to Arpathea with great expectations, which unfortunately were not matched by reality. I will not elaborate on the number of problems created by bad construction ( the shower leaking all over the bathroom , the thin walls making the neighbors very much present in our “villa” etc) but I will try to describe the things very much advertised and unfortunately missing completely: there was no breakfast whatsoever , due  to COVID regulations we were told, after arrival . The rest of the hotels were all serving breakfast, as usual , so clearly this was just their policy, of which we would have appreciated a heads up Before Arrival! The so-called “pillows of our dreams” were so heavy and uncomfortable , most probably trying to match the mattresses. Cleanliness was also a major issue, inside the villa , as well as the pool , which we never dared to use .  
I have to mention the warm-hearted welcome and help that the stuff of one gave to us and we thank her for that .

Beautiful outside views, not so much inside

In Covid times you go back and think of the magical places you visited when travel
was still so easy. Our trip to Karpathos was certainly the highlight of 2019. Our travel agent had recommended this hotel and we loved every second that we spent there. The rooms with the private pools all face the ocean and the most beautiful sunset. In the morning the staff would bring us breakfast in a basket and we would enjoy it on our private terrace. To Finiki it is a short drive and the little harbor has cute restaurants. Every morning we would get recommendations for what beach to visit that day, all depending on the winds. 
We can’y wait to go back next year! 

Still dreaming about this place

I chose Arpathea Villas because I knew it would have fabulous sunset views. And, on that count, it didn’t disappoint. Every night it was magical to watch the sun go down from our patio (except for the last night when the woman from reception came to talk about our check out at that exact moment – REALLY bad timing).

The villa itself was very nice and well-equipped. A little kitchen area, a shower with great water pressure and comfortable furniture. Someone had put a lot of thought into what travellers might need. 

You do need a car to stay here (although I think that’s pretty much true of the whole island). In theory, you can walk to the beach village of Finiki but you will be walking, literally, on the main road. No footpath and, at night, no lighting. 

If you stay here, make sure you eat at Kedros which is just down the road – they have excellent food.

But would I stay there again on a return trip to Karpathos? Probably not. The sunsets were nice but it doesn’t make up for the fact you are on the barren rocky side of the island. The other side of the island is much prettier with its excellent beaches and gorgeous pine forests so that’s where I will head next time.
