Going in to our room, we had to put a key in a slot by the door to turn on the electrics. This key slot was literally hanging off the wall and was yellow due to it's age. The switches were literally falling apart and again yellow/stained.  That wasn't the greatest first impression...

Getting in to the room, it was slightly misleading as the images on Jet2 website showed us staying in a detached building with a spacious room, but instead we were in a block of flats and the room was considerably smaller.

A few hints and tips, the Aircon is set to pulse on and off at intervals, our first night we woke up around 2/3am sweating like mad! So be sure to set the Air con to continuous! This also won't really help the upstairs, although they do provide a fan up there, it was inadequate.

The room service was ok, I guess?! They didn't change the sheets once in our week stay here, which when sweating at night can become a bit of an issue, you want fresh sheets almost daily when you're paying for a service!?? The bathroom was very small and they didn't clean the sink, bath, shower or toilet for us. They just put, what I initially thought was fresh towels and sheets (to use as a quilt) on the bed, but then realized a few days in that these were the same as the previous day??

The food was very "samey" and the one day they did bring out delicious looking prawns they were unfortunately overcooked. The fish in general was not good and overcooked to within a inch of its life. The meat was clearly cheap cuts and the burgers were, well, just odd. The first few days of the food was ok, but a week later it was turning in to prison food and we were desperate for some different variety! The deserts were just a massive sugar overload! The cream was like pure sugar! but at least the fruit was good. 
The snacks were just the leftovers from the previous meal and so we didn't really each much of those and the drinks were a huge sugar overload!

However, I was able to go up and order 4 drinks without issue, so no questioning on who they were for or anything like that and the Beer was actually rather nice?!

To mix things up I suggest you go to Captain Nikolas family tavern, it's just down the road and does AMAZING authentic Greek food with views to match!

The pools turned my shorts yellow and my skin a little yellow too! But the sun loungers were great and well covered, if needed, from the sun. and upon arriving home the yellow has almost come out of my swim shorts through washing them, so no lasting damage.

The entertainment was ok, lots for little kids to do, so swimming lessons, pool volleyball etc and the evening entertainment for the adults was varied and fun down at the Garden Bar.

The staff did seem quiet, but not grumpy by a longshot! I was always greeted with a smile when getting my food, the chap on the door seemed lovely and engaging actually especially when joking around with the kids. The pool bar staff were all quiet but always served me with a smile.

The hotel is out of the way and costs exactly 15 euros to get to Lixouri, so I absolutely recommend renting a car, it was my first time driving a left hand drive car and It took me about 20 mins to adjust and away I was! So don't be put off! I'd recommend Greekstone for the car rental, I paid in cash, collected from Argostoli Port, so no need for large credit card holds etc and there was a complete insurance waver so any accidents I'd have zero excess to pay and no recourse! We ended up doing a good 130 miles around the island checking out the sites! And thankfully the hotel had ample free parking for the car!

Overall I would stay here again but do my homework and ensure that I ate out each day to provide some much needed variety to the food.

A reasonable base

Bad experience, this hotel is far from 4 star rating. Our room was old, dated furniture, the bathroom was small (no more than 3m2), I had to sit sideways to actually fit in,  extremely dirty, with rusty key in the door. Although cleaning was done daily, the sink and shower space were never washed. It was extremely dirty when we already arrived viz photos. Dust everywhere. Food was overcooked, very little to choose from, all the same. Food in between the main meals was very poor, very little to choose from. There was a guy sitting at the entrance to the restaurant (which looks also dated/old) and every time we had to tell him a room number and he crossed the number off on a paper.  Larger families had to enter together, if one of them was late, they were not let in - or with difficulties. I had a sick child, and as I was waiting for the doctor to arrive I went to the restaurant to get a coffee. I was told I cannot take coffee out, and the man at the entrance told me that he does not care that I have a sick child and I should wait until 10am to get a coffee at the pool bar. Those who wanted a packed lunch, got one pack croissant and a juice (that is all). Towels and sheets were yellow, and so was my swim suit and a shirt I was using at the pool. The towels were not changed, only folded and put back. At least 3 times there was a smell coming out of the drainage and I smelled horrible in the room. Sure enough, my son started to have an upset stomach and he had high temperature for three days after our arrival back home. 
Animators were nice, friendly, very good with kids, receptionists very ok, some people complained about them, I did not have a bad encounter with any of them. 
Beach was dirty, apparently there was an earthquake and the beach does not look the same anymore, as it was two years ago. The same with Xi beach, they still show pictures of how it looked like, but now it is just one row of sand beds and that is all what is left from the beautiful beach. 
So, sadly, my experience at this hotel was rather poor and I surly will not be returning and will not be recommending this hotel and its services to anyone.

I do not recommend this place, dirty, loud, food was poor, overcooked and pretty much the same.

I read some of the previous reviews & sometimes wonder what people’s expectations are? 
For us as a family with a 16 year old we had a great time. The staff were friendly & helpful. There was always plenty of food at meal times, the rooms cleaned daily, with fresh towels & sheets. The evening’s entertainment was more for the kids but they did involve families also. The hotel is quite far away from a town & shops, but you can get a bus to town & a taxi for £15 euros back. I would suggest hiring a car as there are some beautiful places to visit on the island.

Great holiday

After booking we read the reviews and our hearts sank… research first, book later, shoulda/coulda/woulda… BUT!!!! Me and my cousin were taking a well deserved long weekend break from bereavement and busy lives, we booked 2months before travelling, AI rate, we were randomly allocated room 566 which was on the edge of the site overlooking sea, mountain and cornfield. No passing people or view of the resort and its entertainment, and not near the social areas but 1minute away… it was FANTASTIC. View? Tick! Noise? Tick! Facilities in the room and resort? Tick! The staff were friendly, funny and helpful, if you have a question, just ask! Communal facilities and rooms were spotless and serviced well, pools good, an aqua park on site so if you’re a family with water babies you can’t go wrong. Food wise, something for everyone, local cuisine, salads, desserts… daily pasta variations and always chips for the fussy eaters. Vegetarian options available but limited, pescatarian possible, meat eaters well catered for. I’m a coffee snob and that was drinkable but the wine was difficult to swallow. As a 3star resort and for the price you pay, I would say go for it, relax and enjoy…oh and the local puppies pop in and say hi as well as the pusscats :)

Good value, chill out

It’s our last night at Ionian Sea. Me and my partner brought  our 12 year old son for 10 nights!
I don’t normally leave a review, but I feel this hotel deserves the best review from my family and I. 

I was worried about our trip as the reviews were putting us off. But I have to say we were pleasantly surprised! The reception staff, bar staff, cleaners animation team, all so lovely 🥰 We were lucky and got put in a new room, it was cleaned everyday with fresh towels. Other guests we met said their rooms were a little bit more dated but the same so clean and tidy.  The food was amazing!! So much to choose from, snack bar was lovely too. My son most nights played football on the football pitch with all the other  boys (bring old pair of trainers) sand gets everywhere. 
Good idea to rent a car we did for two days and seen lots of the island. If you don’t want to rent a car you can get a taxi to luxury town for 15 euro, 10 mins max. Luxury is lovely and lots to see and do. from there you can hop on the ferry over to the other side, it’s lovely on the ferry, takes 20 mins and I think it’s like 3 euro. 
We met lots of amazing friends during our stay, we all said the same, we had a great time. Great for children and adults. 
Also drinks were fine for us. 

Thanks for the best holiday. We will for sure be back next year
