been to scala several times, 2nd time solo.  booked captains hotel with jet2 for location as near the beach.  stayed in room 2, family room, 1 double bed & 1 single bed.  room was clean & quite modern.  a little balcony with table & 2 chairs & a make shift washing line with pegs which was handy.  room was cleaned every day along with the bathroom.  shower was rather on the small size but worked.  wardrobe had plenty of hangers, small cupboard space, one had safe in & room also had a small fridge but would have been helpful to have a small waste bin.  room had a tv & i paid extra for air con which was a god send.  breakfast was your usual basic of pastries, bread, ham, cheese & boiled eggs but it was nicely set out every morning.  considering captains cocktail bar is across the road, there was never an issue with noise.  staff were friendly.  would book again.  perfect for what i wanted.

Nice little hotel

Greek hospitality non existent!
We booked via jet2 and prior to arriving had e mailed asking for sea view room and had received a response to say they could do this for an additional fee of 50 euro but room was slightly smaller. We accepted this . On arrival we were greeted (not very friendly at all) by older lady who gestured that room was up two flights of stairs. She was more interested in demanding money for taxes and air con! The room was disgusting. In the rafters and very dull with THE SMALLEST!   Bathroom and balcony I’ve ever seen. Only one person could fit in bathroom at a time as door would not open fully and shower had a hideous old unhygienic shower curtain. The balcony had two small plastic stools but was impossible for both of us to get out. Also we were in the roof space so balcony was surrounded by wasps nests. 

On request for a new room we were begrudgingly offered another room by a male receptionist who was very unfriendly and repeatedly stated the new room would be smaller though. We obviously accepted although had to wait two days to move. New room was much better but bathroom still extremely  small.  

This place should never offer guests the first room as this should only be used as a courtesy room at best in my opinion . 
On day of departure there were no staff at reception to take our check out ( key etc) and no one around willing to wish a safe journey which is poor hospitality in my view. However as we were leaving the same male receptionist ran out after us demanding the additional 50 euro for in his words “the very special room we had been given” we originally argued this should not be the case but begrudgingly agreed to pay at which point he was aggressive toward my husband demanding cash and not card and snatched money out of his hands. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour snd I’d recommend steering well clear of this place!!!!

Non existent Greek hospitality

Small room, very clean, shower space was disgraceful very very small 2" x 2" no room to shower, no shower holder hand held head, curtain stuck to your body all time if your and adult you have no chance to shower properly with curtain closed , also sink plug always sticking in, attic room very small also jet2 customers had to pay 40euro for air con remote controller disgraceful and discriminating i was told by the owner if i had booked direct to hotel we could have had better room and free air con, Jet2 you should be ashamed to using  such Hotels that discriminate to guests, breakfast was same stuff every morning no hot food, this hotel has put us from going back to Greece now i don't expect to leave a nice home in UK and end up in a tiny attic room with a closet as a bathroom. very shameful not again.

Disgraceful rooms smallest shower I've ever seen

I stayed at The Captain's House after a friend had recommended it to me. It's a very well run 2 star hotel situated very near the town centre of Skala and right opposite The Captain's Bar.

I had a pretty large room on the ground floor, with a small balcony with 2 chairs and a table. There was even a small clothes line along the balcony railing with clothes pegs attached incase you wanted to wash clothing. 
There was also a small fridge,  I bought some milk I'm a nearby supermarket so I could have an afternoon cup of tea and a twix which I also kept in the fridge.

There is an air-conditioning unit, but there is an additional charge for this. I didn't need it. There's also an additional charge for the safe that's in the room, again I didn't need it as my suitcase has a lock on it, I kept all my valuables there. 
The bath room is on the small side, a feature in many Greek hotels.  The shower is particularly small,  but works fine and there's always plenty of hot water. I have a tip here,  if you find soaping yourself difficult in such a small space, I suggest wetting yourself in the shower, then turning it off, step outside onto the floor towel provided soap yourself there, then step back into the shower to wash the soap away.  Sounds a bit cumbersome,  but trust me made my shower experience a whole lot easier. Towels and bedding were regularly changed and the rooms were always well cleaned.
The breakfast is continental, so don't expect any fry ups here. That said, the croissants were particularly good and always warm. There's a choice of cereals, crispbreads, cheese and hams, along with fruit and Greek yoghurt. Eleni who looked after the guests at breakfast station always had a smile on her face, and would ask if I'd like my bread toasted,  and if I'd like another cup of coffee.  I really enjoyed my stay at The Captain's Cabin and will definitely return again.

Great 2 Star Hotel near the centre of Skala!

We have stayed at the Captains House before and has been a great experience each time. The beds, bin and room well looked after. The towels and sheets changed regularly. The breakfast is continental and is well advertised as such in their literature, so don’t expect anything else. Well worth having though! Only one minus point, was told that we would receive 5% discount for cash, which did not materialise. Manager said it had been deducted already, which was not true. This is the reason we only give 4 stars. Altogether staff were lovely and helpful.

Excellent value for money!

Just had 3 lovely weeks holiday. Staff are so friendly and helpful.
Hotel is spotlessly clean. 
Breakfast was plentiful and to eat and enjoy it on a lovely balcony over looking the sea was a joy.
They have a cocktail bar across from the hotel, you can enjoy a drink in the bar with music or sit on their lovely balcony in the quiet. We will definitely be back.  Big thank you to all staff

Captain House Hotel. Skala, Kefalonia

It was our 2nd year at the captains House, 8th year at skala, hotel is very well located, cleanliness spot on, breakfast lovely, staff very friendly(family run)! Great cocktail bar! Most rooms have sea view.

Best summer

We had a room on the top floor with a splendid view of the beach and the sea. There's no lift but the manager brought my suitcase up for me (daughter managed her own case). The room (number 32) was quite small but adequate for our needs. The bed was rather firm, and I suspect a small double. The shutters worked well which made the room dark at night. We paid up for the aircon and we were glad of that as we could just about hear the Captain's Bar revelry with the door shut (I never go anywhere without earplugs). 

The bathroom was tiny. But then, unless the guest is disabled, I don't see there's much reason for more than one person to go in at a time. The shower was good, no shortage of hot water. The sink plug kept getting stuck so we had to get the staff up to sort it. Hope they find a more permanent solution! Free toiletries (unused by us) and sufficient towel changes. 

We did wish there were drawers for our stuff. There are two cubby holes each side of the balcony door, one had a wardrobe space, the other was empty. Why not put a chest of drawers in that space? 

Bonus points for: mini fridge (with two small bottles of water already in there when we arrived); lots of mirrors including a shaving mirror and a full length one in the bathroom; a hairdryer (not used by us); a mini kettle (bring your own tea bags); fairly new-looking fixtures. The view!

Some people have moaned about the breakfast; it didn't change every day. It consists of bread, crispbread, cake, (sometimes) croissants, ham, cheese, hardboiled eggs, fruit both fresh and tinned, thick yoghurt, cereals and tea or coffee. We have tea in the morning so can't comment on the coffee. Now, complaining about that lot and how it never changed seems very unreasonable to me. You could have cereal and toast one day, yoghurt and fruit another, ham and cheese on bread another morning. What else do people want/expect? A full English? There are places in Skala which will do that for you. We found it quite satisfactory.

We only tried the Captain's Bar twice, it seemed ok but there are plenty of others in the resort. However, it seems it is Simon Pegg's favourite and they have the photos to prove it.

It was a lovely ten days. And did I mention the view??

Lovely little hotel

Here is my honest opinion of this hotel are you sat comfortably..we got there on an afternoon check in was painless and staff friendly...I emailed the owner to ask for a sea view,now if you have walking or mobility problems you maybe don't want the top floor as it's 3  floors up  but not a problem for my lot,my room was typical greek fare lovely little room bathroom not massive but clean tidy and with spot on views we paid an extra 80 odd euros for the view and balcony but this Included the safe and air con which would have been extra so bit of advice pay a little more treat yourself to the views and get the safe and air con thrown in.the staff where always friendly and polite and at hand if you needed anything.breakfast was the usual continental stuff coffee lovely view out to sea even better.you might want to complain about there being a kettle and cups but not tea and coffee making stuff but not me I nipped to the local supermarket threw 5 euro at some tea coffee milk and sugar jobs a good un ...the rooms where cleaned regularly so no issues from me there if you want the Hilton pay hilton money if you want a lovely little place to stay with  great polite staff great sea views and a lovely around experience then the captains house is the place for you would I book again absolutely without hesitation only next time I would book direct with the hotel to save a few quid
