DO NOT STAY IN THAT PLACE 
We thought that we were going to have a great stay at Malou, but unfortunately we ended up leaving before time. First of all it’s supposed to be a family hotel, but we were waking up at 8 in the morning because of the gardener had to do the lawn and trim the garden with loud machines? This they couldn’t see any problems with, because “it’s 8 o’clock” they said - yes, and we are on vacation we thought.. 
Then my sister was staying with us the first week of the vacation, and then she moved out to stay at another place the last week, but was of cause visiting us, because of the visits they claimed us liars and said that we had to pay for more days, because they believed that she was still sleeping at our place.. we have a newborn with us, and my sister was with us to help with our child so of course she was visiting us. 
the cleaning was kind but very loud, so every day for 3-4 hours you can hear them dragging the chairs over the floor. 
I could keep on going about hour experience.
They was really rude, and not kindly at all.
Stay away from that hell

Were allocated a room in the basement. Clean and rather functional but dark, old fashioned and unattractive. Small terrace outside exposed for bypassers. Did not buy breakfast. 

Two positives: (1) The helpful young lady in the reception. (2) The nearby park and the three small beaches with fine sand along the bay: Chrisi Akti, Yannis Beach and Iguana Beach, with chill-out atmosphere, obviously popular among locals. Great ice cream at To Pagoto in the main street.

Close to nice beaches

This hotel is an excellent place if you like the beaches, but it has very poor rooms. If you like an average hotel, book it, but a room with a sea view or a side sea view if you can't get those rooms. It is better for you to find another hotel as the other rooms see neither sun nor light

I stayed at Malou for 3 days and had a lovely time. The room was nice and big and comfortable and the cleaner was available to clean frequently. The location is walking distance to some stunning beaches and a short bus ride in to Chania old town. The pool is lovely and big, most of the sun beds are in the shade but there are beaches nearby to sun bathe and i used it a couple of days to have a good swim. The owner and her son are extremley hospitable, making themselves available for any questions which made my stay really easy and stress free. They pointed me in the direction of a chemist near by that does the antigen pre departure test for €20. I would really recommend this hotel.

Excellent stay at Malou!

Sad to say but even if the place is close to beach and town it is not a hotel I would recommend. The female owner watches like a hawk owner you and corrects every little thing that she thinks is a mistake. Moving a pillow one day from one room to another between the families is a big no no. Towels in the bathroom are so thin and torn that they should only be used as old rags.
Borrowing a book from the left-bookshelf and replacing it with two! of my own caused another reprimand. Bringing my own coke to the tiny pool caused a reprimand. And if you should happen to make it comfortable in your own room by moving a table she is there with the index finger in the air.
Not everything promised on the website for the kitchen exists.
I could go on but why...? I will not be back. Sorry.
Cleaning is ok and the cleaning lady works hard but her boss doesn’t really like the guests - that is obvious.
This is my opinion and I’ll stick to it.

The apartments are spacious but the cleaning is not very good. We had a dead bug in the bathroom which we saw when we arrived. As a test of the cleaning of the room we did not remove it and  it stayed in the same place during the entire week. 
In the pool there was algae on the sides and the water was never completely clear. Other than these points it was ok....so it really depends on what you have to pay and how much you expect to actually stay at the hotel itself. The location is great and the are some good beaches nearby. 

Ok depending on the price

We have just returned from vacation - the hotel itself is ok but we have not felt welcome because the owner was annoyed by the little things our children did during the stay - something we have never experienced before no mether how long or where we stayed.

And they did not try to hide their dissatisfaction either - if it was not that hard to find another place in the middle of the season, we would probably have exchanged the place.

Low frustration threshold

Very clean, very friendly staff, good prices. I visited it with friends and had very pleasant time. It is Near to Chania so i preferred it from other options like Platanias or Ag.marina. I suggest it, no doubt. 

Great apartments 

Terrible place! and the owner/familie is very rude!!!!                                    
I went there with my girlfriend and the apartments is very old and there is a lot of bugs!
The bathroom is small and almost no place to shower. There was a lot of noise and It was the worst we have experience. We will NEVER go there again.
