Staying here felt like staying at a friend’s house. It’s not fancy but has everything you need. Its great value for money. Its in the heart of old town Chania on a cobbled stone street. There’s a bakery a few buildings down where you can get a spinach pie and freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast for €6. The sea is at the end of the street. This is within walking distance of the Venetian Harbour and lighthouse. The owners are very welcoming, helpful and accommodating.

Best trip ever

Right at the heart of the old city, in one of the alleys, this is a set of very basic rooms. The rooms are old and the bathroom is small and semi-decent. Some of the towels were not entirely clean and there was no shower gel. If your plan is to walk/travel around Chania (which it should be ;)) and use the room only for showering/sleeping, it is a cheap enough option (45€/day, end of June, one person). If you don't mind spending some extra money on accommodation, you can always choose something better.

It is a simple and cozy structure in the heart of the old town, next to the Venetian port but on a rather quiet road. The rooms are small but clean daily with changing of the clothes. Very available to the owners.

Cheap as chips, E39 for one night, and has everything you might need for a (very) short stay.Perfect location in the old town, very quiet, good aircon, tiny ensuite bathroom with shower, fridge, kettle etc; free parking 5 minutes walk away and plenty of places to eat breakfast and dinner.

does what it says on the tin

Five months ago, we booked another two stays this year at Smaragdi - we had stayed there 3 times in 2017.  We requested a specific room - the only one with a balcony. Georgia, the owner, confirmed the room was available and the booking was confirmed.

About a month before our arrival, I emailed Georgia and she confirmed our reservation for that room was still confirmed.  The day before we arrived, I advised Georgia of our arrival time.  She made no mention that there was a problem with our reservation.

However, when we arrived at Smaragdi, another lady met us and led us to a room downstairs at the back of Smaragdi that had NO balcony, it stank of cigarette smoke and had a back door which was not secure and that led onto a back alley which we felt was a security risk.  We refused the room and asked for the room we had reserved.

After some excuses it became clear that another couple had arrived who also wanted that room but for a longer stay so it was given to them with no regard of her commitment to us.

This should not have surprised us as she did the same thing to us last year (2017) when we returned for the 2nd of our 3 stays with her.

It is clear that one cannot trust Georgia to honour her commitments to reservations made well in advance as they will be changed without any notice if another more favourable offer comes her way!

Beware!  Confirmed reservations cannot be trusted at Smaragdi!

Very small room for 2 people but containing everything you might need, from the boiler to the toaster, from the hair dryer to the wire to stretch the costume. Owner available and friendly. Central position, on a pedestrian path and therefore quite quiet, unfortunately for parking you have to look in a nearby public parking lot, which on Sunday evening was a little taken by storm. The location allows you to go out on foot to see the historic center of Chania and enjoy a great dinner in the nearby restaurants. The room was relatively quiet during the night, except for a little bird that sang for much of the night inside a cage in front of the hotel... but for this you do not have to shut down the owner of the hotel, how poor the cattle owner!!!

Great solution for a few nights.

I would say a great place for location and convenience above all! I don't feel like recommending it for longer stays as the space is reduced and considering that it is located inside a building in the old part of the city.. it is renovated up to the top!! All in all I can recommend it, the location is really perfect, very central!

Great if you're passing by.

Light, bright, clean and very comfortable, Smaragdi is very well situated in the Old Town with a walking street below.  As it is not one of the main pedestrian roads, it was not noisy at night. Georgia is a very friendly and helpful hostess.  We will return to Smaragdi

Clean, comfortable and well positioned

Small but cozy room, ideal location in the historic center of Chania, old town, room always clean and tidy on our return, parking lots very close to the studio, as well as shops, restaurants, port and other attractions.

A good stay

Good communication and very nice reception from Georgia, very clean, bright and friendly, great location, easy handling via Ryanair portal, a dry towel for the mini kitchen would be helpful.
