I am just back from a wedding in Agia Pelagia and I had a really pleasant stay in the Kythereia Hotel. The room I stayed in, although small, had a fantastic view of the harbour, it was freshly painted and was cleaned every day. It had free Air Conditioning, a TV, a fridge and a small bathroom (shower and toilet) and very good value for money.
The Hotel was well maintained and you could tell the owners took great pride in their property. Angelo and his mother were so friendly and helpful, stopping whatever they were doing for chat every day, it just made the experience so much better. 
The Hotel is located in the centre of the small town and less than two minutes walk to everything, i.e. church, beautiful sandy beaches, restaurants, cafes, a small supermarket etc.
I was showing my colleagues in work some of the photographs I had taken and all they kept saying was that it reminded them of the movie Mama Mia. In retrospect, I would have to agree with them, because staying at the Kythereia Hotel and in the town of Agia Pelagia (the people are just so friendly) was like stepping back in time to Greece in the 1990’s.
The Airport is about 25 minutes drive and costs €25 in a Taxi, Angelo arranged the Taxi back to the Airport for me and there are usually Taxi’s at the airport, I had no problem getting one when I arrived. 


Brilliant Stay in the Kythereia Hotel

This hotel is old and charming and is the first hotel built at the Island. No Fancy rooms but very nice, clean and with It's own ancient charm. Great beds, aircon and VERY hot water. The host family is one of A kind. Always kind, friendly and very warmhearted and helpful. Prices are very low, which makes it possible to spend your saved money elsewhere in restaurants and bars. The hotel has what you Need. A Great bed and a warm shower. Who Need more?

Magnificent!

We visited it out of season and we got a nice little room with a small balcony overlooking the sea for a very low price. 
The bathroom is tiny but the water is hot and everythig is very clean, comfortable bed and nice chat with the owners.

Good value

Anyone travelling to Kythira Island it is well worth the drive to Agia Pelagia- the original port and beach side town. The owners of Hotel Kythereia, on the waterfront, are Greek/ Australians and welcomed us "Aussies" like members of their family. There were also German and Dutch people staying in the hotel that equally felt at home. 

The rooms are extremely clean and tidy and very good value. My only complaint was there were only single beds in the front rooms, when we would have preferred a double.  The front rooms overlook the harbour, have small balconies and have fantastic views. The rooms are very quiet, as the main port and traffic has been shifted to Diakofti.

As the transport on the island is limited to taxis we rented a car for 2 days and took in many of the sights. Kythira is a lovely "authentic Greek" island that foreign tourists seem to have overlooked, although I believe that the locals from Athens all holiday there in July/ August. With so few foreign tourists I think the hotel owners and residents make an extra effort to make you feel welcome.
