We stayed at the Likinia Hotel for one night in late October, 2023. We stayed in a room that fronted on the water. We required assistance to get our luggage to the hotel. The route meanders through a cobble stone walk that is challenging for a couple in their 70s even without a suitcase. Call ahead to arrange for help getting anything other than a light carry on suitcase to the room. The room was nice (photo attached) with a comfortable bed and wonderful marble floors. The one feature that is limiting is a small bathroom with a challenging shower. Unless you are child-sized, it is only useful as a spray nozzle that allows one to wash off while sitting at the edge of the very small enclosure that constitutes the shower. Hot water requires one to turn on/off the water heater. The location is magical - inside a walled fortress with numerous restaurants and shops. We enjoyed our visit to the hotel very much. Monemvasia and the hotel are unique, well-worth the trip and very pleasant.

A unique experience

I was having trouble finding any hotel in Monemvasia that would allow one night’s booking on a Friday in October. One night is enough to enjoy the atmosphere of the castle and it would be a huge pain to leave with the car and park and hike in again. 

Likinia is located toward the back half of the lower town, a steep incline and several steps from the entrance gate. Pack accordingly. I only took my shoulder bag and found myself regretting that I didn’t unload everything I didn’t need to make my bag lighter. 

Our suite (No. 1 suite) was lovely. Located on the group floor. Very spacious. Decent size shower width wise, but a bit short and would be difficult for six-foot tall persons to manage. Only a handheld wand, which was not uncommon during our Greek hotel stays. 

We were thrilled to have a 500 ML bottle of wine waiting for us as well as some Cokes and waters. The included breakfast was decent enough the next morning. 

The staff we dealt with were very pleasant and accommodating. 

Only weird thing, there is an excavated hole with glass floor right at the entrance to the room. Lit up at night so you could see down in it which was a bit creepy, not unlike a vampire lair. I was able to avoid stepping on that spot the entire time. But my husband stepped there and lived to tell the tale. The old lady checking us in walked over it like it was nothing.

Able to book one night in a suite

The people who run this place are great!  The breakfast is lovingly prepared. The views are extraordinary. The rooms are clean and spacious. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly.  The setting, near the ramparts of Monemvasia, cannot be beaten.

Great place.  Nice people. Great breakfas

Amazing views with extraordinary charm.  These beautiful, sparkling clean  rooms are located within the castle walls.  The excitement of exploring the castle's endless pathways, the charming shops and wonderful restaurants added to the experience.  We also enjoyed hiking up the the historic upper town and beautiful church.  The breakfast at Likinia was delightful with fabulous food.  Highly recommend the Likinia to everyone!

Castle delight

What a wonderful  find.  Voula, the proprietor,  personally checked in on us to make sure everything was tip top.  Our room was small,  but very clean and well appointed.  With the windows open,  you could hear the sea (Monemvasia does not allow any vehicles).  Nice little breakfast buffet with outdoor seating. The hotel is situated near the town center where many of the shops and restaurants are located.  Monemvasia is a great 2-3 night stay.  Be prepared to walk and do stairs.  Lots of stairs.

Great hotel inside the castle walls

The place is just magical! The hotel Likinia is placed inside the castle, in a very nice setting, with very tidy and clean rooms. The owners and the staff are super friendly and hospitable. The room that we stayed, had high quality mattress, a fireplace, and little windows that we could admire the view of the sea. Also the breakfast is delicious, with fresh orange juice, omelets, sausages and many more options to chose. We strongly recommend Likinia and we will definitely visit it again in the future!

Trip to Monemvasia

Very charming and characteristic hotel located within the walls of the old town of Monemvasia. Our room was very clean and comfortable but the bathroom was extremely small, probably the smallest we've ever had in a hotel. It was clean and functional however. The breakfast was wonderful and served in a lovely courtyard. We would recommend this hotel for a unique experience of staying right in the amazing old town of Monemvasia. We parked outside the walls (no cars allowed inside) and left our luggage in the trunk, only taking our valuables and a change of clothes. We had no problems. There is a long but very scenic walk from the parking area to the hotel. 

Charming hotel, incredible location.

If you have the chance to go to Monemvasia, you simply must stay at this hotel and ask for the suite!  The views are stunning and the hosts are wonderful! It's just the most amazing setting!  Breakfasts are delicious with freshly squeezed oj!

Once in a lifetime experience!

The view from the hotel room was one of the best during my 2week trip in Greece. The owner was kind to fill my bottle with water. The breakfast was home made dishes with fresh orange juice. As the room on the first floor with a open plaza  towards the ocean, it was a little bit lack of privacy.

Liking Hotel

The hotel is positioned within the castle of Monemvasia.  The town is amazing with its old alleys and streets and the hotel fits perfectly into this style. Very unusual, very quirky, somewhere special. Not your usual hotel, not luxury but fits perfectly with location. Position is near the top of the town so there are stairs and steps so if you have problems walking this may be a bit difficult. Rooms are clean with plenty of space. Bathroom small but ok. Rooms a bit dark but then bigger windows would not be in keeping with the place. Breakfast is traditional and good. Hotel has a breakfast area that leads into a garden terrace with seats. Its a nice place to eat breakfast or later in the day come to read or drink after a day of exploring. There is not bar or restaurant but bars and restaurants in Monemvsia are a couple of minutes walk. The old couple who run the hotel are great and are very helpful. I would happily stay here again when in the area. This is a gem of a hotel.
