While choosing 1* hotel as a place to stay, we were not waiting something cool and classy. We understood perfectly well that nothing like a superior resort can be expected. 
Thus, it’s not extremely easy to come to conclusion what the overall rating of this stay is, since standard expectations from 3-4* hotels are not applicable in this case.
What we really liked about this property is its location. It’s situated in the forest of Dasilio Prinos with its fantastic air, long empty and beautiful beaches and peaceful atmosphere. We have not come across car parking problems during the stay. Neither the problem of noisy nights has existed. Also, the little village of Skala Prinos can be reached out by feet with no difficulties at all. Skala Prinos has several cafes, restaurants, car rentals and the port connecting the island with the city of Kavala. Surely, the location is the greatest advantage of this hotel.
We could not expect breakfasts to be so poor, since all our experience in Greece told us that you would not leave the hotel hungry. Though it should be admitted that we have always stayed at 3* or 4* hotels in Greece. However, it was a real surprise that there was no yoghurt for breakfast at all. Actually only one kind of cheese, one kind of ham, one kind of bread, jam (strawberry one), margarine, corn flakes and boiled eggs were served for breakfast. Also, there was packed juice, milk, herbal tea (no black or green one) and coffee (filtered one). 
Reading the reviews below I mentioned that some people spoke about bad AC. We were lucky enough to have one, which worked pretty well.
The rooms themselves are very basic. The good point was having the fridge, in which we kept our food for breakfast. No TV is in the room. The shower is not separated from the toilet and is represented by a simple hole in the floor. Well, that doesn’t guarantee comfort, since you have a flooded bathroom every time you take shower.
The towels were charged 3 times during our 2-week stay, the bed linen was changed once. Actually from time to time the chambermaids forgot about washing the floor or emptying the bin or making the beds or everything at once. 
Also, it’s important to mention that the staff barely speaks English. We tried to ask for plates to take upstairs and it turned out to be extremely difficult to explain what we actually wanted. I was also surprised that we were not showed the usual hospitality Greece is so known for at this hotel. It looked like that the staff including the owners just did not care about the guests. We were not waiting for some super classy service, but to give a friendly smile does not cost anything and can be surely done by everyone.
All in all staying here has not turned out to be a disaster or a torture, but that’s not the place I’d like to stay at again.

Not the best experience ever

It sometimes feels like we're genetically determined to find only problems and talk exclusively about them, be critical and dissatisfied with everything we experience. How hard is it to also appreciate the good things that come our way? The furniture might be a bit updated but the rooms were impecably cleaned every day (as far as I know this is quite a rare thing in Greece!), the bathroom is very basic indeed but we were happy to have hot water at all times, there are no TV-s in the rooms but instead we pleasantly socialised outside in the beautiful garden, the kids played with cute Michelle (the host's dog) or we simply had a walk on the beach, in the port or elsewhere. Breakfast was simple and repetitive but dinner meant Greek food (that's what we wanted, after all) and the delicious Greek salad every evening- so it was just fair for the price we paid!
Micaela and Giorgios- two welcoming hosts, hard-working people whom we thank for our lovely stay. On our last night we asked Micaela to teach us Greek dances and we taught her Brasoveanca- she is a wonderful person and it was superfun.
We had decided before getting to Greece that nothing was going to ruin/ spoil  our holiday and so it was. Our optimism bought us a perfect holiday. (not to mention that the weather changed right when we got to Greece so we enjoyed the sun every day)

A holiday to remember

To everyone interested to book this hotel I would like to share a recent experience . Most importantly because the only reviews here are from 2012-2013 while there was another owner at this property.
We returned in June 2017 as a large group,  after a very pleasant stay back in 2015.
But,  to our surprise what we received there in matter of service and overall experience was terrible. 
Not only we booked our group 1/2 year in advance but also provided a prepayment deposit to guarantee. 
Few days before our arrival we got back from them stating that 2 of the rooms are not available any more due to some technical problems but that we will be relocated nearby. 
This just to find out at the moment of check in , it was more than 2 rooms  and there was no objective issue the matter of fact , the owner simply decided to accept another group and move some of our rooms out to 3 other different hotels, 1 of them not in walking distance. 
No proper apology was offered or explanation . We were simply told this is  the situation and if we don’t like it we can leave. Although trying to communicate , we could not reach any logic but the rude attitude, tone of voice was infuriating. Someone acting like this clearly doesn’t have a clue on what hospitality is all about. at one point we were given a deadline of few hours to decide otherwise we were invited to leave all together. Having no choice we agreed to check in. But just after 1 night there we realized that the service was no longer the one we expected from the past years. The water was not running , some rooms did not have the AC remote, the host was clearly bode red when we requested the rooms to be cleaned and somewhere not cleaned in the end more than once as they implied that there don’t have doubles to the room keys. 
1 of the rooms allocated in a new property was in a house where there was still construction going on so we decided to book somewhere else. Others due to the problems in the rooms were also vacated as some couples called around and booked elsewhere. 
To finalize we do not recommend this unit at all. They might consider it as value for money but that is not what we complain about . The attitude of the owners and poor management ruined our stay there and needless to say we won’t be visiting or recommend it any time soon. 
Strongly advise the horst to fix their room problems but mostly important educate on hospitality behaviour towards their guests.

Unprofessional and rude, technical problems in the rooms and overall outdated property

We stayed here for 5 nights. We mostly needed a place to sleep because during the day we were traveling the island. Clean rooms, really nice owners, in a quiet area. A good place if you're traveling on a budget.

Nice stay

We stayed for the first 3 nights of our long summer holidays this year. And I have to admit it was one of the most relaxing places I’ve been to. 
Hotel America is a small family run hotel 50 m from the sea. The area is very quiet.
We loved barbeque in the garden and the olives    
Will return again next summer!
