We stayed here last minute after other breaks being cancelled due to pandemic. We are pleased with the location and villa. In the rural heart of Crete and you get a real feeling of village life. The villa itself is although in the middle of the village is secluded from other buildings and onlookers. We read about the church opposite but the bell chimes are all part of the experience and you do get used to and look forward to hearing them. Especially if you have a teenager who does not want to getup in the morning 😀. Made very good use of bbq and local shop supply hall you need to get you going. We hired a car. Well that’s a different story for another day. Not anything todo with the villa I might add. Recommend use the Lidl on main road heading back to Chania. Due to restrictions we looked after ourselves and no maid service however pool man appeared every other day. They leave out net which is quite relaxing first job of the day. Our only issue which is why we did not give 5⭐️ is the local teenagers on their scooters running up and down the lane outside the villa from 1800 till 2300 with the most loudest exhaust (adapted) you have ever heard. So if you are someone who is early to bed be warned. It is a shame and not the fault of the villa. We have tried to not effect our great stay. Oh the tavernas are great place to visit. Turn up no menu they just give you what the cook wants to serve you. Very good value as well. All in all for a last minute break where we could relax and keep socially distant from everyone well worth it👏👏👏👏

Last minute holiday 

We booked the villa as it has disabled access and facilities. The house is well equipped and with a bedroom and wet room on the ground floor, it’s perfect for anyone with disabilities.
Lovely gardens and pool although the water was freezing when we went towards the end of October.
Armeni is a great base to explore central and western Crete.

Great Villa

We stayed at Villa Verde (Armeni) from 28 May 17 to 04 Jun 17.  I had just hit 55 and my wife's 50th was celebrated out there.  We took three "grown up kids" with us, but sadly not our three year old frenchy who I always miss!  The villa is about five mies directly inland/uphill from Rethymo and took us about an hour in our hire car from Chania Airport. It always takes time to drive on Crete as you tend to be going uphill and on windy roads most of the time.   Set in a fully enclosed large garden it is directly opposite a small school which is next to a church.  Yes the bells do ring from 0730 to 2200 but the five of us found it quite charming, and non intrusive/useful within a short period of time.  The villa is split over two floors, downstairs is an open plan kitchenette, diner,lounge and a loo with a washing machine. Their is a large double bedroom with own en suite.  Upstairs a double and twin with a "family bathroom" with bath and shower separate.We spent most of our time seated at the table outside.  The decor is lovely, clean and simple, non slip stone throughout.  Shuttters, curtains and A/C if needed. Balcony/roof top space from the bedrooms. All fixtures and fittings, smart, clean (spotless) and modern, WI FI if you're sad enough to need it (Put them phones away!).Without doubt, the star of the show is the lovely pool area, and BBQ/Gardens,  The pool is a bit chilly but lovely once the sun was up.  My son and I were in it all hours, because it was there!  A nice lady came on the Wednesday to do the linen and clean up.   Big bins 100m down the lane, and parking right next to the villa is an essential for me if we have a hire car.  Cretan drivers are actually quite polite, but certainly get a move on, just take your time and enjoy the scenery.  Rethymo was challenging at times, and we always ended up parking at the marina, which was cheap compared to rip off Britain, and easy to get to and from. We loved Armeni as it was clearly not a touristy place.  A couple of mini marts, bakery, pharmacy, some tavernas, and 1k away some Minoan Tombs. We visited Damnio beach twice, (quiet and clean), Rethymo several times, good food, quality and "tat" shops, and our best day was hiring quads and visiting Lake Kournas (Hire a pedal and swim, its fresh water), Spili, and again Rethymo.  Sorry ....digressing.  The villa is peaceful, clean and ideal for a family and small kids.  I think the downstairs would be suitable for wheelchair access also.  We booked through James Villas almost last minute, which wasn't cheap however you can't moan about the quality, and surroundings.  We did about 400k in the car, there are so many lovely little paces to see.  Definitely get a car and get out. Would definitely stay here again.  Treat yourself!  It was lovely out of ten!  The only thing that would have made this better for us would be having the dog!  How sad are we?
