This guesthouse is located in the heart of Old Town which is fabulous--the hot water is good and the beds are comfortable--but it is Niko (Nikos?) who makes this a really special place to stay. He goes out of his way to show you excellent recommendations and even does his best to personalize them upon just meeting you. Really lovely man. I definitely recommend this place if you want to make the best out of your time checking out Rethymno. Little warning is that being in Old Town it can get loud hearing people walk back from bars.

Amazing host!

Nikos is a charming person, he started helping us with the parking lot before we got to Rethymnos.He gives you a very detailed map with his own recommendations and explains everything you see, and we also asked him for help in planning the next few days and in a moment he mapped out the route with all the details, thank you Nikos was everything more than perfect!!!The accommodation is located in the center, a 2-minute walk from the port and any other service, better impossible.The room and bathroom were very spacious, the bed comfortable...let's say that for the price you couldn't ask for more!

He would definitely return.

A home experience

In the EC, it was almost like a return to a childhood home.

Optimal location, quiet in the house, charming flair of a very old house

The fake ratings led us to book in this pension. The dirt we found in the room is unrivaled with any cheap hostel I have ever stayed in. Dirty sheets (blood stains!!!!), hair all around the place, mold on seiling, dirt stains on walls, food of previous residents in the fridge. Avoid at all costs!

Very dirty unacceptable rooms

A structure in the middle of the historic center of Rethimno (one point in favor) - dirty and messed up. As you can see from the attached photos, the door to the room could be opened with a sneeze. A half-grounded closet with only three cranes, on the bed and towels a meter of black hair, not mine. The mold under the shower faucet. The toilet. A mini-fridge in the room that had to be turned off at night to sleep. A panorama from the window on a rented house.

Half a falling star.

Great location! Nikos is a wonderful soul. Very hospitable (despite my initial experience, as described below).

I wrote to Nikos ahead of time letting him know my arrival time. When I arrived, no one was at reception and the front door was locked. After 20 mins of waiting outside, another guest staying there opened the door and I was able to wait inside. After another 20 mins I was able to connect to a WIFI network and I emailed Nikos to let him know I was waiting to check in. He responded promptly and was there within a couple of minutes. He mentioned leaving because he had heard my ferry was late and he was waiting to here from me. But not all guests will have phone or internet access frequently while on vacation. I'm not sure what would have happened if I couldn't connect to the WIFI. It was not a good start to my stay at Rethymno House. Moreover, the room wasn't the cleanest. There was hair all over the floor.

Not the best first impression

I found a special offer on booking, very competitive price. Clean room ok, nothing to say. Small enough size, but perfect for a touch and run (we used the room only x shower and sleep).

Quality to price ratio: top!

It's a lovely little boarding house in the heart of the old town where it's good to get lost! The owner is pleasant and well-recommended! A very pleasant stay! Don't park in front (the old town is mostly pedestrianised), I suggest you park at the free car park a 5-minute walk away.

Hospitality and Kindness

The owner -Nikos- is really the best! Very welcoming and always there to help you wherever he can. He also has good advice on what to visit, where to eat etc. Booking process went very smoothly, he emailed right away with information and helped us out with questions about parking the car. The hotel is decorated in a traditional style which I liked a lot. Rooms are very clean, airconditioning was new and did not make any noise during the night, bed is comfy. The location is right in the middle of the old town, and with no noise during the night.
