We stayed in room 111 which has a balcony you could play sports on, the staff are great and for a 3 star hotel it is fantastic. The evening menu is limited but the hotel are happy to direct you to local restaurants. The bathrooms are better than most 4 & 5 star I have stayed in.

A Mountain Paradise.

If you love old, Alpine ski hotels, you'll love this place! The place has an interesting history and is well preserved. The views are obviously gorgeous and there are interesting places to visit just up the hill or down the road. Coffee and desserts are wonderful, too.

Alpine ski hotel in the mountains of Rodos

We booked for one night and it was quite different experience. The hotel is located in the mountains, in the middle of a forest, that is quite different from what you expect in an island. It has a unique architecture, totally different from the local one and reminds you of the Alpes. A visit there, even for having a coffee,  is highly recommended!!!!

A unique hotel in Greece

We absolutely loved everything in the hotel and also in the tavern across the street (we ate moussaka and drank greek coffee). 

Service was great in the restaurant and also in the hotel. Staff was very helpful. Hotel's interior is so charming with all its details and the view from the room is just breathtaking! You can see the sea panorama and almost touch the clouds... Goats were wandering under the balcony - we had such an authentic mountain getaway. As we were walking downhill we found such a beautiful church, did not know it was there! Breakfast was very satisfying. Taverna closes early (maybe 5pm), so you can eat snacks in the hotel or go to some other restaurant next village. 
Would definitely recommend a stay here, hopefully we will return soon!

Magic mountain getaway

Ok this is not a normal hotel and it would not be fair to judge it on the basis of it being so.  It is an historic building on the top of a mountain and it’s Beauty lies in its history and the natural surroundings.  The staff could not do enough for us.  We were the only guests and I could have stayed for weeks.  Peace quiet good food comfy bed. Please visit this gem so it can stay open

Historical Splendour I would urge you to support

Located on mount Profitis Elias, next to the Byzantine monastery.
It was built under Italian regime in 1929 and named after a certain species of deer (dama dama) that lives in the woods nearby.
It is not something you would expect in Rhodes.
We didn't stay here but the building was so unexpected we wanted to mention it.

Strange Architecture for Rhodes

Although we rented a villa for two weeks in Rhodes, we decided to book a room at The Elafos hotel for one night on our wedding anniversary. The room does need a little updating but we found the surrounds beautifully peaceful, walking in the mountains with views across the island. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They have a little taverns opposite the main hotel where we decided to dine in the evening. As we walked across we were told it shut at 5pm, our misunderstanding so we were going to have a light meal in the hotel, however the general manger insisted on opening the taverna and cooking us a meal. This made the evening feel wonderfully romantic having the taverna to ourselves and very much appreciated. Hassan the guy who dealt with us throught our stay was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, we really enjoyed our stay

Beautifully relaxing

Day of driving round the island and this Hotel was one of our stops. It looked great online, however the building exterior is very worn and faded. Definatley in need of some tlc. The interior was lovely, couldnt fault it. 

Online pictures looked good - a bit tired looking in real life

Good things: ambiance, fabulous views from the bedroom balcony over the land and ocean, friendly staff, the absolute silence and calm at night, Price (50 euros per night, without breakfast) (60 euros with breakfast).

Things to improve: mattresses are comfortable, however, they are metal sprung and very noisy. The mattress wakes you up each time you , or your partner, move. So, a truly dreadful nights sleep.
Having a coffee on the bedroom balcony would be lovely, but there are no kettle or drink facilities in the bedrooms, which is a pity.
There is a very limited meal menu (moussaka or lasagne) which we didn’t try, because we had already had moussaka for lunch.

Overall : the hotel offers a taste of what hotels were like in the 1950’s. It is a little run down, but that just adds to the shabby chic charm. But, the dreadful mattresses mean few will stay more than one night. That is a pity, because this hotel deserves to survive.
If the owners just replaced the mattresses, with some modern hotel standard ones, this hotel would be a great place to come and relax for a few days.

Shabby Chic but No Sleep!

This is a hard review to write.  It is probably due to the timing of our visit, but our experience here was a bit hit and miss.  We arrived at about 8PM to find we were not really expected - although having corresponded by email at least two months before.  Not really a problem as the entire hotel had maybe two other rooms occupied.  Took a good 15 minutes for them to come up with a room for us, and in the end it was on the top floor, probably the furthest you could get from the stairs (lovely view from the room though!).  By the time we got back down to the restaurant for dinner, all that they could offer was Mousaka (previously prepared and then re-heated - wonderful anyway) and lots of wine.  It was a good dinner - but the dining room was about 5 degrees - even the heater at our feet struggled to keep us from freezing).  Room was quite small and the bed not really all that comfortable.  This would have been OK if we had ben charged the 50 Euro I was expecting (based on the website info in March for the April timeframe) however we ended up with a 90 Euro charge.  It was late and driving anywhere was not an option so I did not argue.  Again, probably due to the time of the year, the hotel seemed a bit "dusty" as if if was just being readied for the season.  It has all the potential charm in the world, and probably in the summer it is a fabulous place to stay - we were just a bit ahead of the rush.  Would recommend for a summer visit - not so much for an early or end of season visit.
