The setting is fabulous. The bar clubbing loud music that is broadcast over the whole bay makes the whole place intolerable. AVOID until they learn to be civilised. They dominate the whole beach and the small traditional family taverna that has been there for years.


Very noisy music all day

Stayed here with family of 5 for summer holiday. The apartment has beautifully sundeck with large private pool and new sun beds. The view of the beach and surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking! We had an amazing breakfast from the beach bar included in our stay. The inside of our apartment was a bit dated but we had sun all week so didn’t spend much time indoors anyway. The thing that was a bit annoying was the ants that kept coming back onto the kitchen from invisible cracks in the walls even if we bug sprayed all the time. This has nothing to do with this place, the locals say it is normal here. Nothing to worry about just don’t leave any food on the counter. 
There could be better maintenance. The pool needed to cleaned when we arrived. It was never cleaned during our stay. The airconditioning filters was also blocked from dust, we cleaned them ourselves and suddenly there was cool fresh air;) 
This area requires a car. It is secluded meaning the nearest shop is a drive away. We used about 10 minute to the closest convenience store. There is a restaurant right next to the beach.

Amazing view

We visited the beach here and it was spoiled by the intrusive music from the establishment. The food and music might be fine. But the nature of thinking that the whole beach wants to listen to drum and bass while relaxing on a quiet picturesque  beach. Please respect those that choose not to use your services. I guess you don’t own the beach? Thank you.

How to spoil a beach!

Villa with a perfect view to the sea! 50 meter walk to the beach. The popular beach bar offered good food and nice drinks. Nice taverna close to the villa and good restaurants 2 km away. 
The manager Panos was very helpful.
Special thanks to the possibility to take our little dog to the beach.

Excellent for a family vacation!

Didn’t stay in the villas but did use the beach bar. Arrived and were told the sun beds were free if ordering from the bar. That was essentially the only thing we were happy about. Waited around 10mins for the waiter to come over, who we asked for a menu. 15+mins later he comes back with it but we had noticed other tables with drinks we wanted so we immediately ordered the same in the hope of speeding things up. We were wrong. 35-40minutes pass and we decide to go to the bar and collect our drinks ourselves. Later, we order food and more drinks, we then start a stop watch to know for sure the timing. The food, very quick (brought by a different waiter) takes 12minutes, great! But no drinks, 20..30..45 minutes pass. We get bored (and angry) waiting and haven’t seen our drinks or a bill for the food so decide to leave. Standing up for less than a minute, haven’t even got my shoes on and the waiter hurries over to charge us. Funny how he is suddenly attentive. We tell him the service was terrible, he replies that there was likely a problem with the machine not connecting to send orders to the bar. We ask how come the food arrived then? He stares blankly at us. We mention that even if the order didn’t go through, how does he not remember not bringing us the drinks? He says it’s very busy so they can’t remember all the orders. We point out he seemed to have a very good memory for who hasn’t paid. He again stares blankly at us. 

In the 3-4hrs we were there - other than the menu - the waiter managed to NOT bring us even one single thing we ordered. Pretty impressive, to be honest. Overall it was a shame as it could likely be a nice bar, in an awesome setting, but no way will I be going back to find out when they employ such useless staff that spend much of their time sitting around texting, instead of doing their jobs.

Terrible, terrible service

We were not staying at the hotel, but it is not necessary if you want to have something to eat or drink at the bar. The special breakfast was just amazing and very (VERY) complete (bread, butter, jam, cheese, ham, omelette, fruit salad, greek yoghourt, coffee and orange juice), and at a surprisingly cheap price! Moreover, you can take the sunbeds next to the sea for free if you buy something at the bar. Very nice view from the bar. Nice and polite service. Highly recommended!

Awesome breakfast with amazing view

The last day in Crete we decided to go to Nostrum because the last time the food was nice. I am giving the lowest review only because we were badly played. After waiting to be served at the restaurant for 30 minutes, they told us they can’t take any orders because the kitchen can’t handle it. Totally understand if the place is busy but be straight forward and don’t let us wait for half an hour to inform us that we can’t eat. Was unprofessional on behalf of the staff. I have never heard a kitchen not being able to handle a restaurant (when it’s not even close to full) and personally I am not visiting the place again. Let me mention that it wasn’t even a weekend but a Monday.

Visiting the restaurant

Just back from our family holiday and can honestly say its been our best one yet. The location of the villas is about a 10min drive from Chania airport, nice and easy. Check in was very simple, Panos (the owner) arranged for Eugenia to meet us at the house. We arrived late at night and this wasn't a problem. We booked a 3 bed villa, we were 2 adults and 3 kids. The villa itself was excellent and comes fully equipped with everything you need. The furniture and appliances are very good standard and can not be faulted. The pool has a sectioned off kiddies area which we were delighted with. Sun loungers are good quality and perfect for enjoying the fabulous sunshine. The view from the villa is amazing and is picture postcard perfect, looking out onto Loutraki beach. You can walk through the villa complex, onto the bar/ restaurant area then onto the beach, couple of mins walk. The beach is very safe and sheltered, perfecting for lazing in to cool down in the Mediterranean water. Check out was easy and we were allowed to stay on past check out time as we had an evening flight, very helpful and much appreciated. I can't say enough about Panos and his team, very helpful, friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We will return again and can't wait till then :)

Fantastic holiday in breathtaking location

An absolutely idyllic setting in a quiet and virtually unspoiled Cretan bay, with sand and turquoise waters. Though said waters were a little bracing in early June having not been warmed yet by the summer sun!
We were a little hesitant to dine in the restaurant attached to the villas as no one else appeared to be doing so but being on holiday and lazy we went ahead.
The service was friendly and the dishes tasty and the setting postcard worthy. Or I guess hashtag or FB equally so. The local salad had the best tomatoes we have tasted since our arrival a week ago and all dishes were colourful and attractive and delicious, though the mussels lacked broth, and were translated to the menu as ‘myrrh ache’ so it sounded a little Old Testament. However, no fire and brimstone ensued.
Apparently previous staff and chef were all fired last season due to a laissez faire attitude so they are trying to get back on their feet, and try they did for us, so give it a try.
The setting is worthy of a visit and the menu inexpensive so nothing ventured......

Restaurant overlooking the bay

I booked a 3-bedroom villa at Mare Nostrum  Villas in Loutraki, Crete for a family vacation. There were 5 adults and two toddlers in our group and the size of the villa was perfect. The location is stunning, you will see some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, ever! The villa is huge with all three bedrooms being en suite and each with a door leading to the outside area. A huge deck/wrap-around with outside dining. The living , dining and kitchen is open plan and there is also a guest toilet. The villa had air conditioners throughout to keep you comfortable (for us mostly in the evening, when we wanted to get some sleep) and huge sliding doors and windows that we could open for a cross-breeze and masses of light. There were views from every room, but the nearly 360 view from the balcony was just breathtaking. 
The private pool, with fenced off kiddie-pool, was a huge hit with everyone and thoroughly used (from about 7 am until late into the pm). 
We are very familiar with Crete and especially the Chania area and we especially love the Sternes, Loutraki & Marathi area, so we knew we wanted to find somewhere to stay close by. 
But even if you aren't familiar with the area - you are about 10 mins from Chania airport, 20 mins from downtime 
Chania/Old Port (give or take traffic) and just minutes from two stunning beaches (Loutraki and Marathi) and many more beaches near & further away. There are many little supermarkets nearby, plenty of restaurants and places to visit.
Panos - the host owner is responsive, very friendly and accommodating, going the extra mile to make it a very special vacation.  His staff are lovely - from the maintenance chap who comes every morning to attend to the pool, the cleaning staff and the waiters at the onsite restaurant and bar.  
Our 3-year old is still talking about "his holiday home" and wants to know when we are going back. Hopefully soon - very soon!! 
All-in-all, we highly recommend these villas for a spectacular and memorable vacation!
