We had a great stay at Skites. It is a lovely property, with friendly staff, good breakfast and an amazing deck looking over the sea (and beach and pool). 

The accommodation is relatively basic (except the aircon which was great and much appreciated) but that is part of the charm, eg no TV.

Really nice and peaceful

Wonderful seafront location between charming Ouranopolis and the frontier post to Mount Athos state. The property is full of charm personality uniqueness and is classy and cozy at the same time. Rooms are well equipped and very comfortable with charming mosquito nets and awesome varandas . The public areas are a maze of relics and personality, and the breakfast area beautiful in so many different spaces. Breakfast is very good with a wide variety of tasty local produce . 
All in all this is our kind of place, Karen has done and is doing an awesome job with her team and the result is home away from home. I searched a lot and there is nothing like Skites in Makedonia … close to everything and a jewel in itself A place to spend months not a week . And this is what I will do when we return. Um gros bisou Karen danke Schoen !

Simply magical, return is a must

Skites is a tale of two halves. Well perhaps not quite halves but at any rate not straightforward. To begin at the beginning. Follow the third, eastern finger of the Chaldikiki peninsula south of Thessaloniki as far as it goes and just before your reach the great monastic, self-governing territory of Mount Athos along a dirt road you come to this little gem. Small, simple, rustic, peaceful, Skites sits on the sea with a dazzling view across the Aegean to the mountains of the middle finger. Those of us old enough to remember when a holiday in Greece was about the bare essentials at a reasonable price will recognise its quiet charm. It is as many reviewers have said a perfect place to spend a few days mooching around, commuting between the small seaside compound where the small seaside pool lies, a little semi-private beach and the main building with its sizeable terrace and faded, Levantine interior. The rooms are pretty basic with showers that a little erratic, mattresses that are a little hard but entirely adequate. No TVs (thankfully), no ping-pong table, no games.The Chaldikiki like of the rest of Greece has sprouted hotels for well-heeled who are willing to pay anything up to £600 a night. But if you like the simple life then Skites is for you. However....this is a story in two parts and it would be remiss not to address its shortcomings. The little pool compound needs urgent attention. The deck that looks out onto the sea is falling apart and more seriously its timbers have come loose so that there are exposed nails which are a real hazard especially to kids running around in bare feet. The chairs and deck chairs are pretty ropey. There's not enough parasols and the jetty running out to the sea is an accident waiting to happen. It wouldn't take much to put all this right. Two other issues: the first is that the rooms and the restaurant are run entirely independently which gives the place a slightly disjointed feel. The food is OK. Karin the owner has been running the place for 30 years. She is most helpful. The tiny staff not always so -at least not consistently. The scary lady who cleans the rooms knocked loudly on our door at around 9:15 am and seemed most put out when I said we were having a lie-in. The lady who runs the small restaurant is a little stern, unusually so for a Greek, Breakfast is simple but excellent. No hot food but well chosen. Figs would be nice in season.

A little gem that has seen better days

This is a magical place, beautifully run, entirely tranquil and relaxing, in an unbelievable setting on the shore of the Aegean.   The bedrooms offer exactly what is needed; the food in the restaurant is imaginative and delicious, the gardens are lovely, the sea is crystal-clear and no one could look after their guests with more warmth and kindness than the wonderful Maria, Sophia and Karin.  We had a perfect holiday at Skites and we can’t wait to return.

We loved it

This small rustic hotel was a great place to stay for four days on our Halkidiki drive. It has a small hotel beach and pool feel to it with access to private beach (sand and rock) and a rock and cliff path walk around the corner to another sandy paradise. A 2km walk will take you down to the border with Mount Athos and the remains of the 9th century monastery of Zygou.
The hotel is a 500-600m walk into the edge of Ouranoupolis. 
The rooms are basic but nicely presented with a rural country feel to them, with aircon and a mozzy net over the bed. Fridge and hairdryer also supplied. If I was being picky bathrooms could do with updating but they were clean and quite adequate. 
The reception and restaurant area are all rustic Greek and lovely. Classical music is played subtlety in the background. I would love to have played the piano in reception but the sustain pedal did not work. Breakfast is great with a good choice... I've never had such tranquil breakfasts... really lovely atmosphere. The evening meals have the same feel and are lovely. Meal prices are competitive with the nicer restaurants in town. Our meals with a bottle of wine came to £25-27 per head. The atmosphere is so quiet and peaceful it's really lovely. 
Across the small lane is the garden , pool and beach areas which again are really peaceful at any time of day. The bar here is run by Athonisius who is this laid back Greek barman who knows his drinks and is great for a chat. Drinks are lovely but gins and cocktails were 9euros each. Non alcoholic fruit cocktails were 5 euros each. 
Staff all polite and attentive thank you Vasso and Hooly. 
Wifi is at best very intermittent throughout the complex but there is 3G available. 
A great hotel for a Greek retreat and a few days of gentle walking, beaching and lounging. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

A Great Place to Escape

Traditional, small, beautiful and quiet. Clean and elegant. At the end of Ouranoupoli, near the amount Athos boarder, away from traffic and crowd of tourists!  Right in front of the beach and with a cosy pool bar to enjoy a lovely night with good music under the star. Very romantic!

A magic romantic drink under the moon

Initial arrival the hotel is quaint, after driving on a dirt road to locate.  No Sign out front to locate.  (Found sign in disrepair afterward.). This became the theme of our stay. Lights though out the facility were broken or not working.  Many Deck Boards rotted, missing or loose on balconies and deck. Sewage system not working to a point the management requests that soiled toilet paper to be tossed in waste paper basket.  The Pool Bar in the picture is barred shut and has not been in operation in years.  Most of the garden is unmanaged.  WiFi works in main area, but needs constantly reset.  My get WiFi on occasion in room. Download rate 3Mbps, Upload less than 1 Mbps.  Killed two roaches and removed mouse droppings from Bathroom sink and floor.
  The facility shows a three star rating, but fails to meet one star.  No TVs in Rooms.  TV is a one star basic.  No Bellhop service.  No one available on phone.  (Tried to call numerous times.). Linens and Towels were requested three times, had to demand a blanket in person.  (Was asked why we needed one.). Room instructions in German and Greek, no English.  No Privacy signs available, maid walked in on Daughter in shower.  Rooms were to be Non-smoking, but Ashtrays in rooms.  Twin bed for children was a connected bed.  Had to personally separate and request linen to remake.  Minimal Receptacles in room.  Difficult to charge personal electronics.  Breakfast is continental.
  Despite complaints, Management doesn't seem to care.  We felt discrimated against being English speaking Americans.  We never felt comfortable at anytime at the Skites Resort.  I cannot recommend in any format.
