I ended up booking this hotel as I was starting my kayak trip from here. This is a family hotel, very well run by Nikos and his family. They will do whatever is possible for you to have a beautiful Cretean experience. The facilities are simple but comfy and very clean. Alex at the kitchen made my meals an unexpected gastronomic exerience. Their location at Ilingas beach makes it a perfect place to enjoy a chilled holiday and for visiting the beautiful south coast of Crete.

Like heaven

It is a modest hotel outside the country that has the wonderful characteristic of being above the bay overlooking it. In the surroundings there is nothing, only sea, nature and... of course goats! The property offers essential rooms, not very spacious but clean! I slept in a room overlooking the sea and all night the sound of the waves accompanied me. Beneath the rooms there is a terraced tavern on the sea serving an excellent Greek dinner with low prices. Try it!

Decent food here in a nice spot overlooking the beach and sea.  We didn’t stay here so can’t talk about the accommodation.  Good service from the owner who is also much funnier than Michael McIntyre.  I don’t know why McIntyre is so popular.  The fella here is way better than him.

That's a charming restaurant/hostel, with a beautiful view. In fact, the place is so nice that two young (and talented) directors were shooting a movie there while I was having a beer. I hope the film will be on screen soon, with french subtitles, ahah !

Charming place !

The only building in the beautiful bay of Ilingas is this hotel. The room is very simple with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is very basic. The favourite points are the panorama, accessibility to the sea, the most beautiful beach in the area, the great courtesy and availability of the managers and the excellent cuisine. So everything is really very nice, but it is not enough to get the maximum ratings because the bathroom is a little too basic and lacks a little maintenance (in our room the mattress was broken).

The ideal location

We spent three days here and there were the best days in our entire stay in Crete. 

This is not the most luxurious hotel, but I don't care: Everything what you need is available: a clean room, great food and nice surroundings. And the most important thing: everybody working there was super nice!

I will definitively go back again soon!

Tip: We went by car, and it was perfect. The road is good and there is plenty of parking available. However, we did not need the car during our entire stay.

Tip 2: You can do a walking trip to the Sweet Water Beach. Starting from the hotel it takes around 45 minutes following a trail that goes by the cliff. But be sure that you wear proper walking shoes and not flip-flops!

Our best experience in Crete

We had lunch in this small restaurant hotel, and we were very well received, and the local cuisine was delicious, and the view of the cove adds a big plus to this typical, rather quiet restaurant.

Family hotel, welcoming with stunning views and excellent local cuisine

Crete is my favorite Greek Island, because it has everything without compromise; it has a fingerprint of an island and the wealth and diverse features of the mainland; so I often choose Crete as my vacation destination.
I’ve tasted an “all included” resorts in Rethimno, on the north coast, a fancy hilltop villa with a pool overlooking the bay of Plakias on the south shore, I’ve traveled to the lagoons of Elafonissi and Balos, the cliffs of Chania peninsula, the inaccessible beaches of Marmara and Sweetwater, hiked the Samaria and Kourtaliotiko gorges, swam in the sweet water of lake Kournas, took the archeologic tour in Knosos, strolled the old port of Heraklion… well, it is really an endless list of attractions and activities.
Now, after I thought I’ve seen it all, I found that there is a place I know I will return to over and over again, and set as my Crete home – Ilingas beach at the house/taverna/hotel of Nikos Kopasakis and his sons.
There is no risk of over-popularizing this sweet spot and turn it into a tourist replica of so many nice but routine places in Crete – this place is so special, I know it will maintain its unfitness even if everybody I know will visit Ilingas and stay with Nikos’ family.
Read the reviews and take the dry facts – it is not a place for the pampered seeking luxury and amenities, it is simple to the bone, pure Greek island beach experience, pure natural beauty and great yet simple Greek tavern cuisine.
Oh, yes, and it is also quite affordable, despite all its merits and virtues.
