The Little bay was recommended to us from other previews guests. Nice place. Very quiet and peaceful place. On the shore of the bay. It is suitable for people who prefer silence and nature. The people who welcomed us are very kind  and are ready to assist the guests if they have questions. Clean and tidy place, you can prepare your own food, there are good conditions and small kitchen. There is internet and cable TV, but it is better just to enjoy the sun and the sea.
There is a convenient transport to the city of Chania and there is also something to see.
We would definitely come back again :))


Short holiday in Crete

We stayed as a couple in July 2021. This place left memories as something really charming and very special. Small hotel, very quiet, private beach only for hotel residents, clean crystal water, perfect spot for diving with mask and fishing. If you are tired from noise, stress , crowded places and you need peace, relaxation and calming therapy this place is definitely for you!

Charming place

If you want your own place at the end of the world. If you enjoy a beautifully quiet space a small private beach, go for it. Pleasant hosts, nice rooms.  If you rent a car then is easy to go to Chania, a gem in this world.

Peace and rest

If you are looking for a tranquil, rural spot, Little Bay is perfect. The building faces a mountainside with a cave in view, accessible to hikers of average fitness (running shoes recommended and take care coming down). The charm of the mountain is its quietness and the herds of sheep and goats that wander and graze on it.  The hotel has a little beach with chaises for guests’ use in front of a shallow inlet from the bay, leading to Zorba’s Beach. It’s easy swimming but if one wants a challenge you can swim further out into deeper water. 
The apartment has a kitchenette. There are two mini markets about a 10 min walk away, which have all you need to make your own food. Or you can eat at one of the nearby tavernas. There is no main ‘village center’, just the few tavernas, houses, low-rise hotels and the mini markets scattered around the bay. 
The hotel room was clean and had everything one may need and our room (#8) had a balcony on both sides of the room. The front balcony required walking past our neighbors however. The back balcony was private. The bed was hard. Small improvements could be made to add value such as cushioning for the cupboard doors (they slam noisily) and updating the cutlery. The TV and WiFi work well. 
Overall, a lovely stay and very good value. 
PS, there is a bus to Chania which stops outside a nearby taverna. 


Magical setting

The complex, with 12 studios/apartments, has several undeniable advantages. Located ten metres from the beach and the small centre of Stavros, it is quietly facing an impressive rock wall, where the goats graze (the mountain that appears in the famous film Zorba the Greek. Only a few planes (especially military) sometimes disturb the quietness of the place.

These apartments are amazing - your swimming pool is the lagoon / bay running along side the apartments and it is absolutely fantastic for swimming and floating around looking up at the hills and listening to the very active goats as they go about their daily raid on the lowlands. Demitris and Joanna (the cleaning lady) are lovely and friendly and are very anxious to look after you. The whole feel to the place is of a lovely little community with everyone nodding and acknowledging each other without intruding unless you want them to. They keep the apartments very well and towels are changed every c 2 days and along with cleaning and extras such as washing up material and liquid and toilet rolls are all supplied. While we did not use it , there was air conditioning at no extra charge. The Zorbas beach is only around the corner and even a relatively poor swimmer like myself could make it no problem as the water is so easy to stay buoyant in and it is a piece of heaven just to lie back in it and let the world go by.   The only issue which is nothing to do with accommodation is the lack of decent places to eat at night in Stavros which is very disappointing as it would normally be highlight for us. You will need a car and you may have to travel quite a distance to overcome this - believe there are some very good places in Chania itself which is not to far away but we did not go ourselves. Stunning

I hesitate to make a comment on Little Bay as the two of us have been there about 14 times in 10 years, and we have never had any problems until last May. I hesitate to make any comments on this paradise because we know the Family, have even been invited to their home but never accepted.

Little Bay, is a special place for us. While the rental is a studio apartment of 25m2, we have a terrace where we can look out to the bay and at the same time see the sea, hear the goats come in early morning and return the nights to be milked. We travel and work hard, often remain in large hotel rooms. This is one place in the World where we can get away from it all.

We hoped to get away from it all again in May.

Let me recount our experience.
We reserved Room 12 which is the room described in late February. Mr. Elias, himself confirmed the price and the room. In order to have the accommodation fully for one week, we decided to come one week earlier than planned. We usually visit places unknown to us, and then rest there.
We arrived and found a new manager never seen before. We are so familiar with the place that we almost took our bags up there to Room 12 but something stopped me from doing so. The new manager did not seem to know my name and … he had no reservation. I took out the E-mail that I had received from Mr. Elias and he immediately called Mr. Elias.
We have no reservation for you. I don’t know. Excuse me? You have no reservation for me? We have a confirmed reservation that was sent last week in February. There must be a mistake. No, Room 12 is already occupied. WHAT? Here, have a glass of water.
We were very ungratefully given the apartment below Room 12: this room does not have the same view at all: When you are on the terrace, on the right, people who walk into the compound can see you sitting and when you look out, you are looking into the trees. 

My lady friend was sick and wanted to return home. Look, let’s wait until tomorrow. They will certainly come up with a solution. Next day, the decision was not to make a solution, and upon entering the office, was told rather rudely that Little Bay would move us on Monday. (We were returning home on Thursday…) I walked to Room 12 and using my best Russian asked the man who he had booked with. It was booking,com and he took out his calculator to inform me of the price. Humm.

You are in a country where you do not know the language: you adapt but there comes a time when people will stop pushing and shove. The question there was about our rights. We decided to call the Tourist Police in Chania to ask what we could do. The gentleman at the end of the line and I were able to communicate and he asked me for the proprietor’s telephone number. I gave It to him. 

Having dinner in Chania that night with some friends, we recounted the story. My cell phone rings and finally, it is Mr. Elias who screams into my ear and informs me that he will sue me! You will do what? I will take you to court. Mr. Elias. We can play that little game…I think you had better calm down and I have a proposal for you. You give me the room for a price not disclosed here and we will call it quits. Please do know that you have wrecked our vacation.

Just to end this sad tale. We will not be going back to Stavros Little Bay until management has changed.

In conclusion, a reservation confirmed cannot ensure you a reservation.

Sad that this has turned out like this..

I do 3 balls simply because the place is very relaxing, our room was sea view. Let's start from the assumption that Crete is very large so to see the best beaches we have to do at least always an hour and a half or two by car. Stavros is a pretty anonymous country, in the evening there would be absolutely nothing even though I think it's a bit so in all of Crete!!! There are just a couple of restaurants (I recommend going to dinner at the Irene tavern where you eat well and you spend very little directly); to find some view we have to move to Chania which runs about 20 minutes or less. The cleaning of the house in my opinion is not the best one can do much more.

We thought a lot better.

It's very clean, very quiet. Two steps from the beach in Stavros The description shows rooms with sea view, we were given an inside wall and a stationary view, even though we had asked for a sea view. The smell of bad eggs like baths for water in front of the structure. There are instructions and c and a book with a reminder of things not to do: I would say unusual for people on vacation: shower to not bring sand into the room, not to do nudism, not to use towels x the beach, not to waste water. In the face of hospitality.

Convenient location but not all apartments have a good view

Amazingly great location, we stayed there as a couple in July and we really had a great time. Nice people, the manager and staff were very helpful and polite making our stay wonderful. We will definately come back at Little Bay next year and we highly recommend it.
