Tinos

Set in attractive, mature gardens with tall palms and trees, the image upon arrival is most appealing. Two friendly brothers run it but tell you that the hotel snd grounds were their father’s creation. 
We stayed in one of the pretty, quirky semi detached houses in the gardens. Obvious to us it had not been renewed for years, but everything worked and was quiet so we had no complaints.  We made our own breakfast in the room and dined on our patio but there is a huge buffet breakfast laid on in their restaurant for those who want to really tuck in.  
Food in this hotel is excellent. It has to be. Next door on the beach is  Marathia restaurant. 
The dandy beach was a leisurely stroll from our house and an absolute delight. A well run wooden dining area with bar, beach umbrellas and beds. 
We were so relaxed at this hotel thst we rarely visited the town, a 10 min walk o 5 euro taxi ride.

Relaxation

First we need to clear that there are different sections/rooms. Refurbished and not. This is why reviews vary that much (including google). If you get on the non-refurbished the quality is really poor and not worth the price. On the personnel side, it is really very rude owners, no sense of hospitality or friendliness. This includes the beach bar that promises sunbeds in the room price but never give you the good ones right on the bar, but rather under very old umbrellas (and poor shadow). The beach bar/restaurant is also very expensive and very slow in orders/serving/replies. The position is quite good though, right on the beach.

Very average - not worth it

We had one of our most memorable dinners with friends at this beautiful deck next to the waves on the beach of Avis Fokas in Tinos, watching the lights of the ferries crisscross the dark blue sea between Tinos Mykonos and Syros!

Every now and again, one of the massive cruiser ships sailed pass, its lights providing a fantastic show till they vanished on their way to their next destination!

The starters are amazing and most of the vegetables were in “granddad Konstantis’ garden in the morning!that’s how fresh they are! 

All appetisers ingredients are locally produced! 

Not to be missed:

Loukoumades (dumplings filled with feta cheese mousse, Tinos honey from the hills and basil)

Taramasalata is perfect, perhaps the best on the island!
 
I could go on for pages so I’ll just say:

Whether in the daytime for snacks or lunch, or for dinner right next to the sea, the deck of this beautiful hotel will definitely not disappoint!

Not just another “Deck” but one of the best eateries of Tinos!

Friendly staff. Breakfast was ok
Room was big, clean, with a big terrace, big and modern bathroom.

Recommend the hotel to offer a shuttle from the port when arriving or departing.

Excellent stay

Staying at GB is a dream. Maybe even better. There is not a single bad thing I could think of. Plenty of flowers, small gardens, blue windows, polite staff, clean rooms, and peaceful environment. There’s not a better place to stay if you’re looking for a Cycladic experience. It’s a hidden oasis, I will definitely recommend to all my friends and family coming to Tinos. Thank you for everything! 💙

Baptism

We own a home on the island, and come every summer. Due to the pandemic, this year we had the opportunity to stay for a couple of months and really explore everywhere. Tinos is amazingly beautiful and highly recommended. 

We'd been here before. The food is pretty good, nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. It's a step above a regular beach bar food wise, so we decided to give it a go and have a very late lunch after doing some housecleaning. We came wearing bathing suits and holding a beach bag. 

We arrived around 4:30. Place was empty so getting a table was easy. We wanted to rent a couple of chairs and dip in and out of the water while we wait for our food.

When we walked in, we said we were going to be eating. Waiter comes to take our orders without even giving us a menu. When he brings the menu I ask if we can rent two chairs. He says it's 10 Euro, but I need to make a reservation and that he'd send the woman right over. 

We wait a while but eventually place our order. Two Seltzers, 2 watermelon juices, a club sandwich and the Mediterranean pasta. I repeat my order three times before it gets entered. 

We wait over 1/2 hour for our drinks. We were told that the bartender was injured thus the delay. Why someone couldn't grab two Seltzer cans and bring them to us, or even let us know about the cause of the delay, I don't know. 

It's now 5:30. Food comes. Club sandwich and a zucchini tart. We have a back and forth. We didn't order the tart/yes you did. I said I ordered the Mediterranean pasta. He takes the tart away. 10 minutes pass. He brings the menu and asks me to show him what I ordered. Mind you that this is not a large menu, so this shouldn't be hard. 

Meanwhile TONS of empty beach chairs around us, no one coming to ask us about them. 

6:10. Pasta comes. I had already finished my meal. Tart still included on the bill. I bring it up and was told he'd add 2.50 Euro since the pasta was more expensive. By the time we pay, it's 7:00 pm. After paying, the woman (who I don't blame at all) comes up and asks if I want to reserve chairs. I told her it's too late. She says for tomorrow. I said we wanted them when we sat down. She said we could have just grabbed any of them. I said - in front of our waiter - that's not whar we were told. 

Maybe just a horrible experience, and we're here for a couple of weeks more so we may come again, but it's so rare that a waiter gets so many things wrong all at the same time. Again - place was empty. Service should have been amazing. 

Review of Beach Bar Only

We had lunch at the beach restaurant  every day over the 3 days we stayed in Tinos town. 

The food and especially the service by Giota and Konstantinos was exelent. We can really recommend the beach restaurant for their great food, warm and professional service and for the beach itself

Beach restaurant

We were pleasantly surprised to find a small oasis of sympathy, submerged in green, a few meters from a very pleasant beach. Our apartment was spacious and pleasant. Not all new, but nicely presented. Each apartment also has a terrace, and ours was particularly spacious and pleasant, surmounted by an adorable pergola full of grape clusters.

Good choice

Golden Beach hotel is one of those loved, well-known and comfortable Cycladic village-type hotels. A place preferred by families and professionals looking for a tranquil place with good service in beautifully maintained gardens, the beach being literally across the road!

It’s deck was an unpretentious, easy going place where the hotel residents and other regulars (Tinians and holiday makers) could have some of the snacks and dishes prepared by the hotel cuisine!

It was good. Very good actually!

This year, following the explosive increase in popularity of TInos, the deck was completely reconstructed.

New decking, new wind deflecting screen along the whole breath of the deck.

A new pergola made of environment friendly bamboo and locally grown reefs and a very imaginative and romantic new light system!

It is perfect for enjoying a frappe, a long cool drink, a light salad or a sandwich and of course any of the very tasty dishes prepared by the hotel’s very good “Cusina”!

The prices on the menu are a welcome surprise too!

We enjoyed the frutalia omelette (a classic Cycladic dish) the quiches and the other firm favourites such as taramasalata and humous not forgetting the Tinian cheese and sun-baked luza and tomatoes!
The salads, “Kypourou” (Farmer’s salad) and “Kykladitiki” (Cycladic) are especially good!

A must to start any meal: Loukoumades (dumplings with a cheese filling)!

A visit to this deck will satisfy even the most “difficult” connoisseur of Greek island food!
