We stayed in this hotel for a week. At the beginning everything seemed clean, the rooms had just been renovated and are beautifully designed. The view of the sea and the icebergs is wonderful. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant are highly recommended; there is a lot of regional food and everything your heart desires. The staff is friendly and helpful. After about four nights I woke up with pustules all over my body. At first I assumed it was an allergic reaction. Only when the pustules got worse the next night or the following morning, hurting and getting bigger, did I go to the hospital, which is right next to the hotel. After a long wait, the doctor told me that this was not an allergic reaction, but rather bed bugs. Bed bugs may only show up after a few days. Since I had stayed at home before and this was the first hotel in a long time, the bed bugs had to come here. After a long discussion with the manager, I got a new room with difficulty. However, the blame was shifted to me, even though they said there were bed bugs in this hotel. The manager even admitted this. I was also informed that the room had been completely renovated and that I was the first guest in this room. The manager's anger is understandable due to the recent renovation. However, according to the doctor, bed bugs are survivors and can survive in even the smallest cracks.

I find it a complete disgrace that I had to fight for a new room even though I had a very strong reaction to the bed bug bites and even had to go to the hospital and didn't even get any compensation (just a glass of wine). I cannot recommend this hotel at all and would like to share my experience with everyone here that no one else has any more problems and has to walk around for days with pustules full of fluid and inflammation. I find it more than incomprehensible that the manager wanted to keep me in the same room for any longer. Further bites can even trigger an allergic shock, which would have been acceptable here. The next day the cleaning lady cleaned the room as normal. This is not acceptable as it would allow the bedbugs to spread even further. The manager said he would have to have the room cleaned extensively and this would be very expensive. However, I caught these bugs in exactly this hotel and no attention is paid to health. I'm now stuck with a doctor's bill and further cleaning of my clothes by professional pest control. I wouldn't have thought or expected it. It's better to stay away from it and go to a better hotel. Not recommendable.

Bed bugs - not recommendable

This hotel is located with view towards the sea from all the rooms, some with direct view. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant and it was great. They have a tour operator within the reception area, and they are extremely helpful with information and of course tours.

Hotel with a view.

Worst hotel I’ve experienced in my last two years (over 100 hotels). The hotel staff was rude and poorly trained, incapable of answering questions and confused with the simpest of questions. The room was dumpy. Most power outlets didn’t work. Wifi didn’t work. The room wasn’t equipped with enough blankets or pillows. The girls working the front desk were particularly rude, lazy, and passive aggressive. They were poorly trained and unable to handle basic requests. The young female employee at the front desk became resentful when I noticed her inability to provide any assistance and she played the victim. She wouldn’t provide her name (which tells me she knew she had a reason to be ashamed) and snidely retorted, “I know you’re frustrated but I can’t help you.” Once provided the wrong hours for meals by the hotel staff, I was denied dinner, lunch, and breakfast because of “closed kitchen.” The hotel staff lied about meal hours, failed to provide a functioning room with functioning power and water. They lied about the false information they provided, and when I noticed, they pretended the problem was actually “my tone.” As my first visit to Ilulissat and to Greenland, this hotel did a profound job of embarrassing their nation and community. I love Greenland; it’s noble and very beautiful. But Hotel Hvird Falk gave a terrible first impression to a first time visitor to this beautiful continent.

Rude and incompetent staff who lied and disrespected customers

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped with hair-dryers and irons (not common in Greenland!) and fantastic views from the bay-side rooms. There is no lift though so you'll have to earn the 3rd floor balcony view. The building looks as though it's one of the oldest, but probably well respected, hotels in town. Two reasons for the 4 rather than 5 rating:
- I came up on the AUL ferry from Nuuk and the hotel transfer I was promised was not there to meet the boat up to 15 minutes after disembarkation when all the other hotel transfers had left. This wasn't a problem for me as I discovered that the hotel is less than 1km from the harbour so simply walked, but might be for someone else. When I arrived at the hotel, it was clear the transfer had been sent but the delay was a bit disconcerting.
- Air Greenland brought forward my onward flight from 10:00am to 7:00am which meant leaving before breakfast service started. This was not the fault of the hotel in any way, but a nice touch would have been a packed breakfast. With prices what they are in Greenland, missing out on an 'included' breakfast is quite a financial penalty - particularly if you felt you needed to buy an alternative.
All in all - very pleasant on both nights I stayed. It was part of my travel package so I can't comment individually on the cost.

Great views as well as irons and hair dryers!

The rooms are somewhat dated but the views are excellent from the top floor. The restaurant has an excellent Greenlandic Buffet, highly recommended. 
My room-mate and I had to share one bathtowl for 4 days. We asked for more but we didn’t get them. It was somewhat hysterically funny. ”Would you like to use the towel now or can I?”
We had a nice stay but the hotel needs some renovating.

Super views and buffet

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of the town, with the Ilullisat Museum (10am-4pm) and an Akiki Supermarket (7am-10pm) within a 1 minute walk. The room looks a little dated but it is clean and comfortable. The staffs are friendly and they are ok to store my luggage after checkout. There is a free airport shuttle that coincides with ingoing/outgoing flights (check with the reception for the shuttle schedule). The wifi is free but is very slow (sufficient for emails but not recommended for photos/videos). Although my room's window faces inland, I managed to get a nice view of the sea and the icebergs from the reception area and from the restaurant where the free continental breakfast is served. One thing to take note: The roads in Ilullisat have no proper pavements and are often covered in sand and gravel. Although there is a doormat at the hotel entrance for visitors to brush away the sand under the shoes, some sand inevitably makes its way into the lobby and the corridors. It's best to take off your shoes immediately after entering your room, to avoid bringing sand all over the hotel room floor.

Nice view of the sea

I checked in at the Hvide Falk Hotel on the 8th October 2021 and stayed there for 3 days. I cannot thank them enough. I arrived there completely shocked after a bad experience in an Airbnb accomodation in Ilulissat (at that time there was a murder in town, human bodies' parts were found in the garbage and I felt quite unsafe at the Airbnb accomodation located in a poorly lighted area surrounded by factories since even the police were recomending not go alone in such places). Even though there were no available rooms at the Hotel's website, the woman at the reception managed to find a room for me: she suggested me to wait for one guest who was due to check out soon and invited me to have a seat and relax at the lounge while waiting. When the guest finally checked out, they prepared the room very quickly so that I could sleep a bit after two sleepless nights, and made sure I was feeling ok. It felt like being at home. I had an injured shoulder and they didn't mind warming up in the microwave the warm pad I'd bought for the pain (sometimes they even offered me to warm it up without asking them to do it). 
Next day I joined a whale watching boat trip organised by the hotel, and it was so wonderful. It was a very comfortable boat and I was lucky enough to see 5 whales!!! 
Thank you so much, guys, for being so attentive and kind. When a solo traveller feels unsafe and is injured as I was, some comfort and kindness is crucial to feel better. You all have made me feel safe and comfortable. Special thanks to the reception woman, Vilhelmine, who is also a courageous boat captain with amazing abilities to spot whales. Thank you also to her boat helper (sorry, I can't remember your name) for having shared with me a lot of interesting information about the whales and the life in Greenland. You are fantastic people! Without the help and kindness of the Hvide Falk Hotel staff, this trip wouldn't have been the same and my idea of Greenland would have been now completely different. All the best for you. QUJANAQ.

Made me feel safe and at home

In spite of the -20C outside it was always a pleasure to return to the HHF; the warmth and helpfulness of the staff, the wonderful halibut dinners, breakfasts that set one up for a day in this spectacular corner of our world, the spacious and comfortable room and a view of the passing ice-bergs that will bring us back.  Five days simply passed too quickly.  Well done HHF.  Top marks from this couple of inveterate septuagenarian travellers.

Warm and Wonderful

My expectations was moderate - a good enough and clean hotel was all we needed. But this place did not deliver on anything. Can say one positive thing: the location, with walking distance to shops, cafes and restaurants. That’s it. 

The hotel is worn down with an old 70’s style. I can live with that. But it is also really poorly kept and depressing. The impression is that the owner does not spend a penny more than absolutely necessary. 

The room was dirty. Hair (incl pubic hairs) in both beds. I talked to the very kind and stressed cleaning staff that changed the linen (of very poor quality, thin acrylic ones). Towels were shredded, toilet paper filled a hole in the ceiling, no soap in the soap dispenser and only two hangers in the closet. 

The balcony runs all around the top floor without “dividers”, so you always need to be aware that someone could stroll past your window. 

Breakfast was really poor, without any ambitions, served in the dining room that no one ever could have described as charming. Dirty table cloths, often empty plates. The girls working there seemed to do the very best they could but were clearly under staffed. 

The receptionist was a joke. Service is a concept he has never been introduced to. One example: I asked for extra pillows to rest my broken arm on while sleeping. 
“We don’t have any”, was his quick reply. 
Not one, anywhere?, I asked in disbelief. 
“No”.
Ok, can I get a pair of extra towels instead?
“No, don’t have any. Why can’t you just sleep with your arm up in the air?”, he said with a grin. 
When I had trouble finding words to answer that suggestion he added:
“I can give you this” - and picked up a roll of toilet paper...

Should add that when I later spoke to the front desk manager he apologized and made sure I got the pillows. 

Stayed four nights and would never return here, but would really love to come back to Ilulissat. Enjoyed a great dinner at the Icefjord hotel (while watching humpback whales from the terrace!) so that will be our choice next time I think. 



Sad and soulless

If you want to live in a down-to-earth hotel with traditional Inuit atmosphere, you should come to Hvide Falk. The manager Edvard and their team are of locals, with very warm welcome to all the their guests, providing every support to the customers at their best effort. The rooms and restaurant are with best views to Disko Bay and the Icefjords.
The dinner menu are also one of the best in Ilulissat. Also, the location is unbeatable, in the most central area with every access to supermarkets and tourist facilities.
