Antigua can be a little much sometimes, so we appreciated how low-key and tranquil this hostal was. It is cheap, comfortable, and the night manager Geo is very efficient if you need travel reservations...

Very low-key and comfortable

I booked this hostel on hotels.com the day before heading to Antigua because it was cheap, had decent reviews, and I could get a private room. I arrived to Antigua the morning of my reservation and the front door was locked and there was no one there. I walked around and then returned a couple hours later. I waited around for a bit and someone finally showed up and told me that they were full. This seemed very strange to me because while I had waited around, I had not seen anybody and the door was locked! This whole experience was very frustrating. I am not sure if it was the Hostal's fault or hotels.com, but either way, taken caution!

Careful When Booking Online

I booked a room at this hotel via Travelocity, and about a week later I was contacted via WhatsApp by either a worker or the owner of the hotel telling me that the price I had paid for the room was wrong.  Even though I already had my confirmation from Travelocity, he asked ME to reach out to Travelocity to ask to pay more???  And all for a $40 difference.  He continued to write for the next day.  Finally, I didn't feel comfortable staying there anymore, and cancelled my reservation.  I do not recommend this hotel... since there are MANY MANY more serious hotels in Antigua, Guatemala. I recommend Guatemala, but not this hotel!!

Don't book... you pay one price and they ask for more money to confirm

We stayed in a private double which was very nice. Felt more like a hotel than a hostel. Unfortunately we were the only ones there so not much of an atmosphere. There is a large kitchen but I think, because we were the only ones there, it was always full of staff and their friends hanging out so we didn't feel very comfortable using it. On the first night we had an issue with the room not being very clean but it was taken care of the second we told them so that was good.

Nice rooms, good location

The staff, Fransisco and Eddie, are welcoming and helpfull. It is a budget and backpackers hostel, between the city center and the market/busstation. There is a rooftopterrace, a very well equiped kitchen, large tv in the communal room, two big tables and benches to eat semi outside, some nice paintings, etc.
Dorm room (5 beds) is 65Q (Quetzales), double room with shared bathroom is 130/140Q. I think there are also rooms with private bathroom. So between 8 - 15 dollars a person! You can ask for discounts if you stay 3 nights or more.
It is a new hostel, with new matresses. Building is behind a house in a quiet street, so no noisy street side rooms. Across the street is a laundry, a bakery, a male hairdresser/barber, and tiendas (shops) in the street.
