Absolutely loved this place, a truly beautiful setting with views over the lake and the volcanoes. Great range of accommodation from shared room to private, luxury rooms. The food is excellent and owners and staff really lovely. Loads of things going on there: fancy dress night, BBQ etc. etc. Travel on a mini launch from Panajachel to Santa Cruz to get there. Make sure you take a boat to San Juan and climb up to the view point. You can paddle board from Santa Cruz and zipline from the Nature Reserve as well as visit the Butterfly House which was amazing.

Lake Atitlan and the Iguana Perdida

Not just a place to stay, but very much a destination with a wonderful atmosphere. 

I absolutely loved my stay.  It really felt like a big family, with guests from all over the world. The dinner each evening was not only delicious, but very sociable.

The open mike nights, fancy dress, pool competitions etc were particularly fun. 

Although most people are under thirty, I didn’t feel at all left out. In my fifties I was accepted and included in everything. 

There’s a good variety of rooms, but found I spent most of my time in the common areas where the views of the lake are mesmerising. 

It’s really convenient as there is no long walk from the jetty, just straight off the boat and about twenty steps away. 

There’s also lots of activities on offer. I tried a discover freediving morning, which was fantastic. 

From breathing techniques in the beautiful yoga studio, to theory whilst snacking on fruit and then in the lake about a minutes walk from the front of the hotel. 

Next time I would like to try their Padi diving and yoga. 

The laundry lady was also lovely. She picked up each morning or afternoon and dropped it back off twenty four hours later. A very reasonable price. 

Happy hour drinks were really good value and a chance to cruise towards dinner time. 

Other people divided their time at Lake Atitlan by also going to stay in San Pedro, Panachel or San Marco. But I preferred being based at La Iguana and travelling by boat over to those places for the day. 

I’ll definitely be back.

A wonderful experience. (More than just a place to stay).

We stayed here two nights on the stunning lake Atitlan. Hell of a vibe in the restaurant of a night time they do open mic night on Wednesday and that was really good fun even if we did butcher Tom Jones after about 10 cans and 4 shots of tequila. However the rooms are spaced around a fairly large site so if ya wanna get ya head round I wouldn’t worry too much about noise it’s very much separate. We got along brilliantly with the staff they were all very friendly and great at their job. Especially the manager who knows the place like the back of her hand! Would really recommend! It gets full here so make sure you book in advance

Gorgeous Hostel

Pretty hostel in Santa Cruz Laguna, immersed in vegetation and with beautiful lake and volcano views! 

We spent 5 nights, and totally recommend the place. The staff and team of volunteers are simply great, all lovely and happy people who make your stay happy and help you with any logistics and questions you might have.

The private room with bathroom is spacious, beautiful decor, clean and quiet. We loved the common areas, with hammocks, plenty of chairs to sunbathe and a pool table. The restaurant/cafe was also our favourite, as we had dinner with the other guests there every night at 7 pm (family dinner, a set menu that changes every evening and varies from pasta, pizza, tasty soups and BBQ on Saturdays). Really nice way to get to know other travellers, the staff and the owners, lovely people who like to talk and share their stories with everyone.

Pretty hostel, friendly vibes!

My third time at the Iguana Pérdida and I highly recommend it! Reasonable prices - if you can afford one of the luxury rooms they are really worth the price, while the dorms are a good value. Good food, great location, and helpful staff to give you tips on how to enjoy your stay at the lake.

One of my favorite places in Atitlan

Iguana Perdida is perfectly perched right on the shores of Lake Atitlan, and the staff was delightful. We met the owners and the kind, helpful staff they've collected and loved the friendly atmosphere among the guests. The deluxe room was fantastic, with its own bathroom, balcony with views and its own hammock--all for a very reasonable price. Wish we'd stayed the whole time at this property.

Perfect getaway for New Year's Eve

Volunteers from Driftwood surfer hostel in el paredon recommended me this hostel, since they are partner hostels, and they promised me that it also has this great family vibe that I love so much.
And they did not promise too much, the atmosphere in there was great!
They were offering an amazing family dinner which was super delicious and where it was super easy to connect with other travellers. 
Beside of that I also really enjoyed the chillout area with the cozy hammoks and the beautyful view of the lake!
Would always go there again <3

Stunning Place!

I booked for two nights and stayed two weeks, I loved it that much. The staff are super friendly and caring, there’s loads to do in the hostel, but for me my favourite thing is the community there. The only downside for me is they don’t let out their glasses if you didn’t buy the alcohol there, but everything else was superb. Will definitely be returning

Outstanding

I have been going to La Iguana Pérdida for 20 years now for a reason.  There are other lovely hotels on Lake Atitlan but it is always La Iguana I go back to as a refuge from travel and work and the world.  The owners and staff have always been incredibly welcoming and friendly and it has among the best views on the lake (and that’s saying something!) The Iguana provides an amazing blend of being able to do all sorts of things or simply lie in a hammock and watch the clouds and rest.

The Best Hotel on the Lake

La Iguana Perdida is a hostel in which you feel very quickly at home, staff is super friendly, guests are nice and open-minded, ready to have a few drinks, explore the lake, and chill. Rooms are clean and well-decorated. There really is a great vibe in this place. And you'll want to try the rustic sauna :).
