Convenient location for those who wish to explore the west area. The bungalow is a short distance from the main hotel, clean and fully equipped. It is quiet and there is a hot tub which we didn’t use. It’s near local supermarkets and restaurants.

Good base for west coast of Iceland

We were doing a campervan tour of the ring road but got hit by high winds and needed a last minute hotel to take shelter. 

The room was clean and comfortable. It was under the eaves of the roof though so walking around the bed you need to stoop your head. Bathroom en suite- again clean and comfortable with a toilet and a shower. 

The hotel is wood and you could hear neighbouring rooms moving around a bit but not enough to be a bother.

We didn’t have the breakfast so cannot comment but overall a great stay.

Comfortable stay right on route 1

When booking our hotels for our roadtrip around Iceland we wanted to find a spot for 2 nights located around the Borgarnes area. Naturally with anything outside of Reykjavik, options can be somewhat limited and we were looking for something that wasn't going to be crazy busy or in the centre of town.

We then found Hotel Hafnarfjall! Located just off of the Highway 1 (ring road) just before you cross the bridge to Borgarnes heading north, this old school motel is placed right on the coastline looking out over the water to Borgarnes.

On arrival we were met by the gentleman in reception who was very welcoming and keen to get us settled in quickly. On being given the key to the room we were shown where it was as it was recently renovated and didn't have a number. We were informed the 2nd key was to the office / breakfast area where tea and coffee was available 24hrs and the area for breakfast as well.

**We were informed upfront that as the property is an older wooden property that it can be noisy and were offered complimentary earplugs should we need them. We were also informed about the hot water being geothermally heated, as such it has a slight sulpher smell - not a smell that stays on your skin but is noticeable when you are showering.**

The room itself was very spacious, plenty of room for suitcases / bags and sorting. The bed was a large queen bed, very comfortable and easy to relax on after a long day exploring. We opted for a room with a private bathroom which was well kept and clean. Thankfully the room also had blackout curtains as due to the Icelandic summers the number of dark hours were not quite the same as at home and bright and early mornings are just that...EARLY!

As this is an old school motel style hotel, a number of rooms you can park outside making bringing things in and out is easy. We had a room overlooking the free evening sauna and hot tub that looks out over the sea - a beautiful scene and one I would request again!

A Great Stay with an old school motel vibe!

The beds were comfy enough, nothing special about the location other than it is a tiny road off a 90km/hr highway. We missed it and had to turn around. Breakfast was not so good. Bathrooms and rooms seemed clean enough. The window opened in a strange manner so if open the light poured in.

Arrived as planned and our room (#5) was ready for us with two twin beds.  Easy check in, tea, coffee available all the time as is access to the office/dining area.   Room comfortable for size, beds comfy.  Would be nice to have room darkening blinds but it did not bother us as we were tired.  We did not use the hot tub but was available plus a sauna.  Breakfast the next day was really nice.  Loved the Icelandic twist and a A+ five star to the owner gentleman who was a one man show with check in, breakfast prep, check out and kind with ensuring all questions were answered - including the marinaded herring on the breakfast offering.  The attention to detail was noticed, appreciated and demonstrated the quality offering the location truly is.  I would stay here in a heart beat again!  

Wonderful overnight stay

Stayed here for 4 days in the private suite with
our own washroom.  Located outside of any city and away from light pollution made ideal conditions to see the Northern light.  Staff was great, friendly and helpful with questions about the area.  5 min drive into a small town was great when we needed something, shopping or food.  On site geothermal hot-tub was awesome. Rooms were very comfy. With views of either the mountains or the ocean. Would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. 2 thumbs up.

We arrived on a windy, rainy day. Reception was super friendly. Although they knew the set up, the receptionist did have to rearrange the room so it would be 3 beds. We had a room upstairs but there are no elevators. So it is an older cabin. We had room 15 and room is spacious. There is a note about the water but somehow we had to get the sink to a certain spot to get cold water. Or else it is burning hot or hot. The room also came with a coffee machine and kettle, along with coffee and tea bags. We also got to watch Netflix on the tv. The beds were kind of on the soft side. 

We didn’t buy breakfast.

Nice stay tucked away

Nice and clean. Don’t let the outside looks be your judge.  The room was comfortable but not huge.  Not a 5 star but a nice rural stay in Iceland if you are in the Borgarnes area.  The hot tube was a bonus for us! We did not have breakfast here so I am unable to help you there.

Nice find just outside Borgarnes

One of my biggest regrets of our Iceland trip is that we didn't have more time to spend at places like this - not sure where the negative comments come as perhaps the stay inside the main building is different but we stayed in one of the  11 cabins on the grounds and it was sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssuper nice! 

The cabins are separately tucked away from the main parking lot/building yet within walking distance. They are super modern and clean - the TV had Netflix to the best of my memory as well. The highlight was the glass corner providing open views from the couch + sleeping bed; even in nasty weather it was amazing to have that open view. 

Breakfast was decent - similar to many other places we had and it was perfectly sufficient, served in the main building - it's a walking distance from the cabins but since it rained we drove back :) 

Thank you for honoring our original 2020 booking! It's quite hard to believe that already 2 years had gone by since we were originally were supposed to stay and yet the owners made no issues about it - thank you!

TIP: we stayed here as our night 9/10 on Iceland going counterclockwise so it was a great stop after exploring the Snaefellsnes peninsula/Snæfellsjökull National Park and picking up some food Borgarnes/Borgarbyggd - there is also a big gas station center before you cross the channel but afterwards it's really Reykjavík if you are heading south so keep that in mind when planning for gas/food etc. - if you are going up north then probably your next food/gas stop will be in Arnarstapi.

1 night the Luxury Cottage

Stayed one night before starting loop drive.  Pretty basic.  Ok breakfast.   Place would be much more attractive with a coat of paint.  On the water so nice setting.  Short drive across bridge to town to get supplies or dinner.
