More than a hotel, it looks like a military barracks. The rooms are basic/tacky, they have nothing, no TV, no coffee, no tea, no glasses.... The bathroom does not even have a hanger for towels and it is unpleasant to be inside since it looks like a prefabricated module. , with the thermos plugged in and everything very basic and without decoration.
There is an industrial kitchen that can be used, but everything is VERY dirty and old. The refrigerator is full of out-of-date food. Nobody checks that the cutlery, plates, pots and pans are clean; if previous guests have not scrubbed well, you will eat on dirty plates.
No one at the arrival, no one at our departure. All "do it by yourself".
I do not recommend it because it is dirty and shabby nor would I stay there again.

If you like military barracks, that's your place.

My son stayed here for 2 nights in early May 2023. It was a terrific place to stay, though a little tough to find after we made the turn off the ring road (1). Bear left at the fork! The room was cozy but fine, the bathroom was nice and clean. There was a large common area for eating/hanging out with tables, chairs, and couches. The big communal kitchen had everything you need to make a meal, and clearly alot of previous visitors had left their spices because the abundance of spices available was funny. Big fridge, microwave, toaster, stove, utensils provided. We stopped at the Bonus supermarket in Borgarnes and bought stuff for lunch and dinners. The hot tub on the deck is excellent, and there is a wooden deck with chairs that we would have used if it was warmer. Its about 15 minutes NW of Borgarnes. Very glad we stayed there. 

Great Guesthouse - With Horses!

I was there for just one night but it's a very nice place except for the kitchen. That was a mess and it didn't match with the rest. Room was clean and tidy, confortable beds, nice living room, new private bath but without host to welcome you. I suppose it's because was already off season at beginning of october. (no breakfast provided either, I knew it) I was given instruction how to find my room and key was there. The place was what I wanted with the horse farm next to it where I was able to take many photos.

In all a good stay

We were so looking forward to our stay here.  We were in Iceland on our honeymoon and thought that this place sounded very romantic.  Sadly, when we checked in, there was no one at all working there.  We had received an email about where to find our key to our room when we arrived, but that was it.   We had assumed that perhaps the owner had just thought that they might be off on a horse ride or in town shopping and would be back soon.  We had really wanted to go horseback riding and were looking forward to the hot tub.  Sadly we missed out on both which was very disappointing.  We had also hoped to get some questions answered about some places we wanted to visit in the area and of course, had no chance to do that.  The next morning, we hoped we'd finally get to meet the owners, but there was just a young girl working there who was very lovely, and who had prepared a nice breakfast buffet, but she wasn't from the area, and was unable to answer any of our questions.  Also, the shower in our room did not drain properly and we ended up with water all over the floor which meant we had to use our bath towels to mop up the mess.  That left us with no towels to dry off with, and no one around to get us new ones.   We rarely complain, and we typically camp and are used to roughing it, and I will say that the bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep.  We were just disappointed that the owners didn't make any effort to be there to book riding times with guests or to recommend restaurants or answer questions about Iceland horses, or to do a simple task like getting us towels when we desperately needed them.

Clean, Comfortable, Lovely. Where we always stay. The best. We’ve been coming here every year since 2016 and keep coming back. While you’re there, book a riding tour with Hestaland. Good people, good horses, a must. It’s the place we think of when we think of 🇮🇸

The Best

I’ve made my career in the culinary arts and unfortunately have food allergies, which is always a major concern when traveling abroad. The chef was so understanding and communicative I was immediately put at ease. All dietary restrictions were well accommodated in the group and every meal masterfully crafted. I am absolutely, a food snob, so exceeding my expectations is not easily done. After a long day of riding, coming back to the gorgeous homebase at Hestaland knowing a delicious meal, tasty wine, and a hot tub was waiting for us was a perfect way to end the day. The rooms were cozy, clean, and comfortable, and the property itself is breathtaking. I cannot recommend Hestaland enough. Whether you intend to just stay a night, and enjoy the accommodations and trail rides on the expansive property, or go for the full trek experience you won’t be disappointed.

Great experience start to finish

We spent one night here. The rooms are basic but very functional. Breakfast was good. We were the only guests. We arrived late and had spme difficulty finding the correct place. It would not be a problem during the day. No one to greet the guests. Only a note and key in the door. We were lucky to see the Northern Lights. Because it is so rural, there was minimal light interference.

Great spot to see Northern Lights

We were 6 in our family, and delighted to book this funky little cabin for 1 night at a great price.  Not fancy but adequate for the adventuresome.  Big windows look out across the fields.  We were charmed by the wonderful northern lights show on the night we stayed there.  No competition from commercial lights. The woman who checked us out in the morning was lovely.   We suspect we were at the end of the tourist season for these lodgings.  For those who want to ride horses this would be very convenient too and only a short drive to Borgarnes where there is food and shopping. 

Funky cabin off the road

The place looks like a container in the middle of a farm. No character at all. On top of that there is no one there when you check in, no one really cares about this place. There was a dog in the yard that was left there alone (poor dog) so he wanted to play around, but that ended up grabbing all our stuff and almost destroyed our shoes. No one seemed to care. The room is ok and covers the basics, but if you look for something more personal, this is not the place.

Not personal at all

Definitely a guesthouse. There is no one there to welcome guests. A note with keys and room location is left on a hook inside the entrance. There are probably 12 rooms.....some with private bath and some shared. There are 2 single beds in each room. There is a small tv with one channel available. Wi-Fi is good. They serve a very nice breakfast buffet. The location is in the middle of nowhere. Any restaurant for dinner is a short drive away. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and our stay was pleasant.
