Great location if you like remote, beautiful scenery, lots of birds (a colony of arctic terns is growing their young ones on the premises), please dip in the clean and crisp ocean! Houses are neat and clean. All facilities are available, hot water, shower and kitchen facilities. Even wi-fi is there if unstable, but remember location! If you want a made up bed you can get one for a modest fee. Our hosts were very  nice and helpful. Please note that you need to bring all food and drinks as there are no services available. Close attractions are Rauðisandur, Látrabjarg and the museum at Hnjótur. Very good value for money. I will choose this place again next time and stay in the cottage on the beach!

Great stay in remote Bardaströnd

Looking at other reviews, there is clearly an issue with how the owners communicate.  We stayed there for one night.  It's quite basic, but a beautiful location.  The cottage is clearly old & simply made, but was clean.  No hot water at all, which didn't appear to be on the booking info.  No shower - we failed to notice that the booking info stated we could use a shower in another building, and were not told about this when we arrived.  We were told on arrival that if we did not clean the cottage before we left, we would be charged a cleaning fee, which was unusual...  As others have said, bedding is extra, though this is clearly stated on the booking info.  The arctic tern breeding ground, which others mentioned, is right next to the cottage, but we didn't find the birds threatening as long as we didn't go too close to them.  The owners would help themselves a lot if they clearly stated in their info that this is an old simple place with limited facilities, but in a very beautiful, remote location.  If visitors knew exactly what to expect, they would probably leave a lot fewer one start reviews...Plus a bit more communication and friendliness at arrival would help a lot.  The person we dealt with appeared to be alone and looking after a small child, which probably made it hard for her, but if they don't sort out their attitude they're going to struggle to make this place work.

Beautiful location, needs better communication

Me and my friend stayed there for one night. The location is literally in the middle of nowhere, the house we had was the big one with the red roof. It was furnished with all the essential things and it was very characteristic! We all loved it! Although it was missing hot water the atmosphere was quite unique, it seemed to live in 1900! The house is fantastic, just very tiny but charming! 
We all thing that the place is fantastic and the owners are nice and kind! 
It is true that the houses are in the middle of a tern nesting field and you have to be careful, but it is part of the experience! 
The only thing that could be improved is the rental of the linen, 2800 ISK is a bit too much and of course people can manage no hot water (and shower that is located by the reception), but linen (pillows/duvets) should be included in the rate, this is the only thing that we might point it out. 
There is a cleaning fee too if people leave the house dirty. 
Of course, bring something to eat, water is amazing, but there are no shops at all and there is nothing to eat there.
Overall we had a fantastic stay, I personally think I will be back there next times I will be around Làtrabjarg. 
Despite all the bad reviews we had a great stay there, away from time and space! :D

Amazing old-style stay!

The worst people in the buisness!! If you are thinking of staying there DONT!! THIS IS A HORRIBLE PLACE WITH OFULL STAFF!

TRUST ME FOR THAT!!

We had fully paid 5 nights group of 8 people, and did not get a refund or did the staff help us out in anyway. They were rude and cold . 

Run away!!!!Dont stay there!!!!!

We were group of Icelanders traveling the Vest of Iceland. We had been driving all day. Just too make a long story short..19:24 when we arrived we meet the most horrible person of all..RUDE AND NO HOSPITALITY!!

We where going to stay there 5 days in there big house. We had our fully trained working dogs with us and were they suppost too sleep in ther cages in the car.  But they kicked us all out. With no understanding of the sittuation we were in and no helping us trying to find another place!! 
Just HORRIBLE PEOPLE! 

If you are reading this DONT BOOK THIS PLACE!

IF you are the staff or owner reading this FIND YOURSELF ANOTHER CARRER!! PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN TOURISM OR IN A JOB OF TALKING AND SELLING COMMIDATION FOR PEOPLE.

Horrible place!

Charming place but HORRIBLE STAFF AND PEOPLE!

We came as a group of 8 people, rented the big house. 
We made the horrible mistake too have our dogs with us, a small puppy and 2 fully trained dogs that were supposed to be in there cages in the car over the night. We had been traveling around the Vest of Iceland. 
When we arrived we saw that there are no dogs allowed on the property but we had them in the cars and legally they can not say anything about that. And  we would be ok about that. 
We were NEVER going too let them run loose on the premises. 

The woman that were there was absolutely horrible. And was there no change to help us out in anyway!! Just too be clear they have dogs there! 

We try to talk and ask if we could stay just one night and leave in the morning, just so we could make arrangements for us. But NO. She was RUDE AND NO FLEXIBLE IN ANYWAY. 

ABOUT THE CANCELLATION WE HAD PAYD FOR 5 nights AND GOT NO FUNDS BACK!! She could not care less that we had to leave! She sad that the people that have no dogs were welcome and the other have too leave immediately!

People that have that small hospitality should NEVER be in this business!! Ever!! This place is in the middle of nowhere and there is not much that people can do if there is a problem.

Horrible reception wurst experience that we had there,  don't come near Hænuvík. They rift us up fore  157.000 for nothing, and we didn't get anything back.  If you are thinking of staying there then don't, they will find a way to kick you aut and take your money!!!

Wurst people of the bisness 

We had booked at Hænuvík and planed to stay there one night on our way from Hornstrandir. Unfortunatly the boat that picked us up in Hornstrandir was 3 hours delayed. In Hornstrandir is no internet so we couldnot send a not abot our delay until 11 pm. And then I wastold
as td we would not be staying. No warning or willingness to assist. These people should not be in tourism. It took some time to find other accommodation with lovely people in Rauđsdalur. they have gotten more beach balls in the same footsteps. 
I got the feeling that since thay had received the payment this was easier for them. No cleaning and perhaps new turists !!!

Thrown out in the middlw of the night!!!

The location originally locked us on booking but from meeting the host to the end of our stay (which we ended up cutting short) the whole stay was one horror after another. Actually, in all my travels I have never experienced a worse host. The huts are in the middle of an arctic tern field that attack you, and if you bring something from inside out to defend you the incredibly rude hosts yells at you. The beds were very limited although we booked for as many as we brought and some slept on the floor on thin mattresses + You need to pay extra for bedding. Some of the beds confirmed by the host to be for adults weren't even big enough for medium-sized women. When asked about it the host just responded like with everything else angry and blamed us "for being too big". The BBQ is in a hut where you need to stay quiet due to birds and no coals which no one mentioned before. No hot water in one of the huts. About 40 min from next town, not 9 km like stated. And I could go on and on! We ended up staying one night but had to pay for two as there was no reasoning with the host. If I can give you one tip for Iceland, do not stay at Hænuvík!

PREPARE FOR THE WORST!

The reserved cottage was actually a very old farmhouse with limited facilities, 
What a dissapointment to arrive there after perfect trip in the westfjords; chilly housing terrible beds and no warm tap water, NO SHOWER , not too mention the lack of hospitality.
We have never been spoken to like the youg woman running this place expressed.
Therefore we can ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND this place!
