we booked an economy quad, didn't know what economy meant.  it means a room with 4 mattresses, there's a per person fee for pillow, comforter and towels.  there are 3 beds in the immediate room.  through another door, at first i thought it was a closet, is another room with the 4th bed.  the setup is a little odd, but with ample room to move about.  we were lucky in that once we paid for the extra fee, we were given a triple and a double.  both rooms had a small table, two chairs, instant coffee and tea, a kettle and cups.  the double had a king bed, two night stands, a sectional sofa, and a closet.

the shared bathroom on the first floor is much used, thus supply sometimes run low or out as in the case of paper towel (thankfully not toilet paper!).  There are two bathrooms, but one of them was always locked.  There are also campers onsite who presumably use these bathrooms.  There's a shower room with 5 or 6 stalls.  The water pressure was very weak, water was basically just dripping.

the surrounding is stunning.  from the hotel, it's a short walk to the golden beach.  We went for our walk during high tide.  it was mesmerizing watching the waves roll in, with cliffs on both sides in view.  we even caught sight of a seal for a brief moment.  

it's a shame the look of the property isn't commensurate with it's surrounding.  the hotel shows its age.  the restaurant looks to be an addition, and doesn't complement the hotel.  there's a row of rooms in a trailer by the side of the hotel.  Campers are accommodated in front of the hotel, most of them are out in the open.

breakfast is traditional and satisfying.  we thought the food at the restaurant was excellent.

the hotel recommends seeing puffins early morning and after 7pm.  since this didn't work for us, we went around 10.  we thoroughly enjoyed the puffins.  we saw the most puffins along the marked path.  we walked past the trail along the cliff.  we enjoyed it, but saw fewer puffins.

final comment pertains to tour groups.  there was one particular obnoxious German who was always at the top of his voice wherever he might be, including in front of guestrooms before 8am.  presumably a room in the trailer is quieter, although wifi might be lacking.  it is only available by the bar/lounge, and not 24/7

Stunning location

I went just before the  high season started to visit the Latrabjarg bird cliffs. Part of the road to the hotel and then to the cliffs is unpaved and potholed. But i managed with a 2WD.
My room with private bath was in one of the trailers lined up outside the main hotel. It worked out well for my bird watching: the two large windows in the room opened on a vast grassy field with a variety of birds passing by . Whenever  a bird showed up I opened a window and  photographed it. 
The coffee/tea set up in the room was good.
Buffet breakfast was quite good. I cannot say the same for dinner options: many items on the menu were missing and what I tried wasn't up to par. I assume it was due to my visiting time being before the high season.

Convenient to Latrabjarg bird cliffs

Overall it’s a nice place to stay close to the cliffs. We stayed in a bedroom for 3 with a private bathroom. The room had all the essential stuff together with the kettle and a tea/coffee set for a warm drink. The beds were one of the comfiest we ever slept in, the room was nice and warm and had a nice sunset view. The bathroom on the other hand was really cold, but with the hot shower. 

We ate the dinner at the restaurant - do not hesitate to ask for a vegetarian meals, we got delicious beetroot patty with mashed potatoes and portion of vegetables. Usual continental breakfast with one of the best freshly baked breads we ever tasted - it was still warm and perfect even with only butter.

Do not expect any luxuries, it’s an older place but has its charm. And remember to walk to the beach, it’s beautiful!

Good stay while visiting the cliffs

My friend and I stopped in to grab something to eat on our way back from látrabjarg. There we met Birna, who was such a wonderful host and a joy to talk to. 

We both got the soup of the day and the fish. Both dishes were so good that we basically licked our plates clean. 

I would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for coffee, tea, or something tasty to eat!

Great food with amazing service!

We called first just in case to check if they were serving lunch and they said yes and started serving at 12:00.

The service was exceptional and quick since most people had already checked out for the day.

So we had few burgers, the soup and the char, the char was exceptional good and fresh, it stood on top of what we had, the burger and soup were good.

The reception was great even though they are abit under staffed, I will try and visit again in the future.


Just a trip and lunch on the way to Látrabjarg

Some reviewers noted warmth and plenty of welcoming vibes here. Not during our stay. Unsure if there's another place to stay near the cliffs. It has to be problematic to organize an en suite/shared room and bath/campground facility, and to supply that facility fully for three months. Someday  they'll pave roads, other options will open up, and cheerfulness will matter. Meanwhile, this is the place. No

We slept 1 night at the campsite of the hotel and all of the facilities that we needed (shower and kitchen) were good and well equipped. The staff is professional and extremely friendly and the beach near to the hotel was the most amazing beach that I have ever seen in my life. Judit and Léo

Amazing beach

NASTY 

The first clue that this “hotel”/guesthouse was not that great was when we got an email after booking saying we would have to pay 2000kr. extra if we wanted a duvet, otherwise we should bring a sleeping bag. This hotel/guesthouse was not cheap so we thougt that was a bit odd.

When we arrived It was so dirty and disgusting we immediately just wanted to leave. The house is old and has probably not been maintained since it was built. Being a part of a larger group though, that really wanted to see Látrabjarg we reluctantly decided to at least check out the rooms. Also because we were told we would have to pay full price for cancelling, altough just 5 minutes before I had talked to a staffmember that said it was okay for us to cancel and we wouldn’t have to pay anything. He apparently knew nothing, according to the owner. She told us it was so busy she was turning people away.

The owner wanted to know why we wanted to cancel so I (torn on what I should comment on) commented on how dirty the floor was. Then she offered me to do it myself and rudely said it wasn’t possible to scrub after everyone who walks through. When we got upstairs the carpet was soaking wet because of a leak. The rooms have probably original carpet floors and curtains and bunk beds and sheets. The windows had mold. The trash had not been emtied in one of our rooms. So there, with the kids in soaking wet socks everyone in the group agreed to just leave and book a stay in Patreksfjörður. Weirdly the first thing we found availible on booking.com was this hotel/guesthouse. For our large group. So the lady must have been making a huge mistake on turning people away.

When we went to return the keys the owner was so busy in the kitchen she couldn’t talk to us (There were two people in the resturant). So we just left the keys and drove off.

Nasty

We were travelling to Látrabjarg and decided to stop at Hótel Breiðavik for something to eat. What a big surprise. We all had great burgers with fries(4 of us)  and it was one of the best burger we all had tasted. The food was well presented and the service was good. I would highly recommend to stop by just for the the great burgers they serve.

Very good food

This hotel is in the absolute middle of nowhere and the road to get there was slightly terrifying, especially in a rain storm. But as soon as we walked in we felt like welcome guests in someones home. There is a kitchen area, common areas, and the room was very comfortable. They even kept the kitchen open a little late for us and the dinner was absolutely amazing. The prices are a little steep, but there are very few options for lodging in that area, especially so close to the latrabjarg bird cliffs (where we got 2 feet away from puffins!) The staff was very friendly and we spent a lot of time chatting with them. Breakfast was incredible. They allow camping out in their yard, and its a very short walk down to the beach which was one of the most scenic places on our whole trip. Would definitely stay there again!
