Arriving late evening after a challenging road trip from Reykjavik, this wonderful remote pearl welcomed us with supper of spicy hot soup and newly baked bread. One of the tables in the dining room occupied of a semifinished jigsaw. Another of artisans preparing for an upcoming exhibition, having a friendly chat before bedtime.
The hotel room is small but cosy, windows overviewing the sea. Every hotel spot decorated with things that once belonged to somebody else or somewhere near and familiar. Very nostalgic.
Next days herring factory museum tour, led by hotel and factory owner family member Magnus, was stunning. The guide gave us the fascinating historical background as well as a crash course in engineering and genius, lack of equality for women, romance during herring season and how nature came handy for the industry for almost two decades. 
Enthusiasts of Abandoned Places will absolutely adore this place.
This will be my one most surprising memory on our trip to lovely Iceland.

Djúpavik - deep fjord, deep emotions

Fantastic hotel - great setting, near the end of the road in the east of the Westfjords. Eva and her family were so hospitable and went out of their way to help us, especially with car trouble. Cosy surroundings with great food also!

Djupavik adventure

I visited Hotel Djúpavík twice and each time was memorable. After an impressive drive you arrive at a welcoming hotel with a great staff that will make sure that all your needs are met. The hotel manager Maggi (hope I spelled that correctly) was particularly welcoming and shared much of the place's history with us, including a private tour of the  local abandoned fish factory. Both visits were really the best time I had in Iceland - so good it's worth planning your trip around!

The best hotel stay of my life

I cannot say enough good things about this little hidden gem at the end of a long gravel road. It is truly a special place, and our biggest regret is that we only spent one night here. Firstly, the location is incredible and borderline magical. It’s a 44km drive down the road, but when you get there, you are greeted by the crashing waves on the beach, a lovely little stream, and the hotel’s own personal waterfall (I’d like to think it was put there just for us). The accommodations were charming, quaint, and comfortable- we had the little cabin overlooking the beach, which felt private and secluded. The dinner was incredible- the lamb was the best we’d had in Iceland (which is no small compliment, as we’d tried a LOT of lamb by that point). And the staff- oh the staff!! Petra, Magnus, and the others were so welcoming and friendly (and informative!). We had a lovely chat with them after dinner, and we could’ve stayed and chatted with them for hours had it not been so late. This hotel was one of the highlights of the trip for us, and all I can say is, go! Thank you, Hotel Djupavik, for the amazing hospitality. We will most definitely be back.

A true hidden gem of Iceland

Ever since driving through Djupavik a few years ago (when the hotel was fully booked) we've been wanting to come back and stay the night.
What a magical place! We had lovely room with a view over the beautiful bay and the food was excellent! Cozy, peaceful and historic are the words that come to mind.
We definitely recommend taking the tour of the old herring factory. The history of this place is fascinating - especially from a feminist point of view! 
We will be back. For sure!

Strandir vacai

Dinner with three friends. Great food, tasty and large portions. Nice authmospare in a beautiful old herring town. I had the vegan chose, the other had fish. We are leaving this place very pleased. Price is fair.

Good restaurant

A place where you feel home. Brilliant decorations and even separate living rooms for relaxing. Really cool hike right by the hotel and even a dog that will guide you. Great people to stay with and perfect food! Would immediately go again

Really amazing place

The view from the fjord-facing rooms here is simply stunning; after a long, bumpy drive from Reykjavik, it feels you’ve come to the end of the world. But you haven’t. If you keep going down the waterfront gravel road (passable by 2WD when we were there in July) for about an hour you come to a hot swimming pool on a beach. The pool is a dreamlike experience and we went there both full days we were here, despite the length of the drive. 

There’s also a very nice and not too strenuous hike up to the top of the waterfall over Djupavik, and the herring history of the village is fascinating. The hotel is comfortable and in a gorgeous setting — a great place to go if you want to get away from the crowds.

Beautiful, lonely place

I came to Hotel Djupavik with a friend after a long weekend travelling the Westfjords and staying in various places. We instantly felt warm and welcome, had the most delicious cakes, the whole place is cuter then my words can describe. This Hotel is beyond words I can find right now and Djupavik was our favourite of all the places we visited in the Westfjords.Coming again soon!
