Decent, basic guesthouse in Olafsvik. We visited here in July 2022 and guesthouse was comfortable.  Very few amenities.  Below are some details to help future visitors in their trip planning. 
Room (good stuff):  Comfy beds & pillows; clean; great WiFi; a desk & two chairs in room; bath soap & shampoo provided; large room and bathroom; extra luggage rack provided upon request; hot pot and coffee provided; large free parking lot; view of bay across the parking lot; friendly host
Breakfast:  none provided
Awareness:  No lotion or tissues provided; hotel only had two hair dryers and we had to borrow one from front desk; only one window opened (and then a small amount) – would be an issue if weather is hot.  Most places in town were closed for breakfast and/or lunch even in July.   We would not stay here again as there was no included breakfast (which we knew, but did not know that all the area restaurants were not open for breakfast and some not for lunch).  Found a gas station for Sunday breakfast......  There is a very large lounge upstairs with a few cooking facilities, we did not want to cook.


Comfortable room, no breakfast, convenient to Snæfellsnes Peninsula

When we travel, we have access to wifi but not to a phone. If it is your case, NEVER EVER book here. We received a message a few hours before check in to let us know there would not be anyone at the reception when we would arrive, and that we needed to call them. They could have, like every other place we've been to, given us the lock key code via the messaging then, but no, we had to call them. We answered that we could not since we had no access to a phone (well not one with a sims card at least)... We told them we had arrived, we were waiting and would be waiting for their answer on the messaging chat. They answered at one point (or maybe it was an automatic response) to say they would help us with parking when we got there. But we were already there! We told them again... We waited in the car for over 1 hour, no answer from them. It was windy and snowy and really cold (around -1 degrees) outside, and I needed to go to the bathroom... The only reason we got inside eventually was because another tourist who had booked there arrived and let us in... That is it. It has now been 24 hours and they still never answered my many messages... I would have slept in my car if it was only left to them. 

I can add, on top of that, that we were supposed to come there in 2020, it was cancelled because of covid of course and they never were accomodating, they  never wanted to reimburse, they barely wanted to give us vouchers (with expiry dates), and the new dates would not have breakfast like it was suppose to at first (and that we paid for...). All in all, I would not recommend.

Finally, once we were inside: the bed were bouncy castles (so springy we bounced when we moved on the one person bed... not comfortable), we could hear everything in the streets (cars passing by, etc.), the curtains would not cut the light entirely and would unroll up randomly, the bathroom were <high school change room> showers, two showers in a room with only a curtain, no place to change in private (on dry floor), the bathrooms were the same, 2 bathroom stalls for men, two for woman (that is it, 2 showers and toilets per gender for the whole establishment)... The kitchen also lacked a lot of things and we had to get creative with it... There was someone at the reception the next morning and she tried to suggest activities for us to do, but I had already all planned my day and by then, I just wanted to leave... Anyway, I would never go back there and I will actively tell people I know not to book there if they go in the snaefellsness peninsula. There are way better places (in Arnastapi for example, we stayed there too!)

Communication with them was HORRIBLE! Worst experience in over 4 years....

Hostel is cosy and clean with all needed facilities. Staff is helpful. The only complaint we had is that there was no place in the room to unpack our luggage, even though the room was spacious enough for some shelves etc.

Nice hostel

Truly the best hostel I’ve stayed in and we’ve stayed in hostels around the world. The family operating it are beautiful and very hospitable and have added nice homey touches to make the place very comfortable and everything was immaculate. 

Old people shouldn’t stay at hostels as they don’t know what they’re doing and one old man almost took our food from the refrigerator. Fortunately his wife caught him and stopped him. It was rather pathetic that he just felt he could help himself to whatever was there. They ended up eating a cup of cereal someone had left. (The hostel was not serving breakfast (unless prearrangement was made as we did and then they brought us a tub with our name with lovely fruit, yogurt, bread, homemade jam, cheese, etc.) due to Covid). I’m sure this was explained to the older couple upon checking in as it was explained to us. 

Located right on the beach with a spectacular view, has a full kitchen (with microwave & dishwasher) and plenty of bathrooms and showers. They offer tea and coffee to guests 24 hours a day. We love making a home cooked meal while traveling so the kitchen is definitely a plus for us. There is also a refrigerator for guests to use. 

There is a washer and dryer available for a reasonable fee. The liquor store is right downstairs and there’s a restaurant that offers pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs right across the street. There is a convenience store/gas station right across the street that also has a car wash (in case your rental car ended up as filthy as ours did! Lol)

There are comfortable seating areas throughout and they offer some board and card games for guests also. 

I give them a 5 out of 5 and would give them higher if I could. I highly recommend as we didn’t want to leave! I’d love to go back for a week! 

Exceptional and very clean.

My favorite Icelandic location

This was one of the guest houses we stayed on our two week trip. It was probably the most basic of them all - more hostel feeling than the rest. The breakfast was definitely underwhelming. I found I was cold at night with the thin duvet provided. But it was clean and had a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains. 

Nothing fancy but clean

First impression was that it looked nice and was very clean. However it is on a busy street and very, very noisy. Pillows were super lumpy, and breakfast was very minimal. We had basically the same breakfast everywhere we went and they had half of what the others had.

Noisy

Location could be better... To close to fish industry... Rooms clean... There should be more toilets and showers.... but it is good place to short stay.  Breakfast was good. There is a place for couple but also for biger gropu. As always you can find there something to relax, puzzle, games 😁

Good enough... 

We love the strategic location and cosiness of the room. Our room has ensuite bathroom, which is big and clean. The room is on the ground floor, despite next to the parking. Quiet, good WiFi connection, comfortable bed, decent continental breakfast. Basic room facility (electric kettle, radio, coffee/tea), no TV (which we don't need), no kitchenette. Reception, shared kitchen and communal area is on the 1st floor. 

This was our 2nd stay and we will be back again. 

Vid hafid guesthouse is conveniently located in the little town Ólafsvík, with a fuel station and shop next door, and within walking distance from restaurants. the room was spacious and modern with a very spacious bathroom. But the breakfast was on the poor  side especially for the price you pay per night ( 163 euro) so price value is not to good.

good location

This is in the middle of Ólafsvík which is great to walk to restaurants and gas station. There are beautiful views of the ocean. Place is very clean and modern. There are shared bathrooms and showers but never had to wait. Staff were all very nice. Breakfast was simple but good. There is a nice kitchen to make food or eat if needed.
