We were snowed in here and had to stay a night.   We couldn't get out the next day as well, so this lovely lady made all travellers staying with her, soup and bread for lunch - all at no cost.
The rooms are lovely and warm and very reasonably priced. 
Well worth staying here just for the hospitality alone

A lovely landlady

Amazing hospitality from the hosts. We got stuck in the town due to snow conditions. Marlin & her husband welcomed us with true warmth even though the hostel was supposed to be closed. They were simply brilliant. Thank you!!! 
We were one party of many they took under their wing & Marlin even gave us lunch the next day as it was still snowy & the roads were closed until 3:30pm

Fabulous hospitality in Iceland

I could have almost given this an average 3, and it appears most other guests are more forgiving.  But for the price I was not happy with a small, bare room on the third floor that required going down a flight to a toilet and down two flights to a shower.  Cleanliness was so-so.  I remember waiting for a replacement (very dim) bulb in the forlorn hope I might read a bit.  Having had the bulb changed before our arrival would have been a nice touch.  This "house" or "hostel" or "hotel" is at least one of two on the same street under the same management.  I was a bit annoyed to wait for about 15 minutes at check in as the owner chatted away with another earlier arriving guest.  We walked downtown in the rain for a recommended dinner place that was OK.  The breakfast included the next morning was also OK.  So color me a bit grumpy about this place.

The guesthouse is really cosy and comfortable, also very clean and neat. The prices are quite affordable. The landlady is so sweet and kind!! If you come later than 10.30pm she will leave the key for you with the directions to the room.

Absolutely gorgeous!

This is a lovely guesthouse, but some travellers may find the following information helpful:  
1) This is also a hostel, which is probably a positive trait, but it can be a bit confusing at first.
2) Although there is information on the internet that states there is a cafe at this site.  This is old information--breakfast is available for 2000 ISK, but lunch and dinner are no longer available.
3) Despite what some websites say, there is no washer/dryer available at this guesthouse.  The owner does provide a laundry service (expensive, as is usually the case in Iceland) and there is a washer and dryer available for use at the local campground (800 ISK for a wash, the same for a dry--but only one set of machines, so it takes a while to get through a family's laundry.)

Other than the above confusion, we had a lovely stay.  Our rooms were basic but clean and comfortable, the common space was particularly nice, and we found the shared kitchen easy to use and convenient.

Lovely place, but some information needs updating

It's listed as a hostel, but we had a room with en-suite bathroom. Clean with comfortable beds, good shower and no noise issues.

Has kitchen facilities, supermarket (open 11-19), wine store  and bakery (open from 7.30) all at same location 2 min drive away. I only mention this because it made our 4 course meal with 2 bottles of wine affordable! ;)

Place overlooks the fjord and has helpful hosts that speak multiple languages (at least English French Dutch).

Good basis for day visits throughout the east fjords.

Tip... Visit puffins 1hr30min drive north at Borgarfjörður Eystri.

Practical, friendly and has a living room!!

This was a lovely stay! It was just a step off the beaten path, which gives it a very quiet and peaceful feel. The beds were comfortable, the room was a great size, and we had a small balcony, which was wonderful to get some fresh air and gaze at the sun never setting behind the beautiful mountains. The shower was wonderful (believe me, after a number of different showers, each with their own eccentricities, you come to appreciate when they work seamlessly).

The breakfast buffet was good -- well stocked with what you would expect (cereals, granola, yogurt, fruit, etc.) and excellent coffee!

Wireless worked perfectly!

But, by far the factor that makes this place feel so warm and homey is Marleen (I hope I didn't get her name wrong...). She is an awesome host! From the second she greeted us, to her helpful advice and directions, she made us feel like we were her only guests, although, the place was full! 

Thank you, Marleen! Your advice about GPS really changed our trip for the better and your kindness and hospitality re-energized us for the rest of the trip!
