We liked the appartment. It is cozy, clean and on a good location.
Check in with the key code is very easy, so no problem if you arrive in the middle of the night.
Bedlinen and towels were great hight quality and the beds very comfortable.

Perfect start in Reijkjavik

We stayed 3 nights in the 3 bedroom apartment Esja.  The apartment is heated, plenty of hot water (smells a little from the sulphur) and we could cook or own meals (eating out in Iceland was way too expensive for us).

There is a supermarket across the street but it's a bit pricey. We had a car and bought our groceries at the Bonus supermarket which was more reasonably priced.

The Apartments are in a good location and easy walking to the old town, museums, old port and uphill to the church.   

Good apartment in a good location

I had booked the "Esja" apartment at Local Apartments in Reykjavik for 4 nights at a cost of 250 Euro per night, expecting a nice apartment in a central location. We (family of 4 with 2 teenagers) arrived early evening on a Friday, and were extremely disappointed from the fact that the apartment was very dirty and run down, including broken lights in the crummy bathroom, a dirty kitchen and a dirty refrigerator. I immediately contacted the manager by phone to see if he had a different apartment or location available, but he was unable to help. We immediately started looking for a different place to stay, but had no luck since most places were fully booked and had to spend our first night in Iceland in this dump. 

Overnight, my son suffered an asthma attack (the first one in four years), so we packed our suitcases the next morning and headed out for the day. In the afternoon, I was able to secure hotel rooms at a nearby hotel, and we promptly checked out and left the keys in the apartment.

Having only stayed there one night, and checking out in the afternoon of day 2, I requested a refund for the last 2 nights (half of our stay). The manager refused to refund any of my money because we left without calling him first (although I had already spoken to him the day before, when he explained that he had no other accommodations available). I quote from his emailed response: "When circumstances arise that people will not take advantage of their reservation or want to cancel their stay due to some reason, they must first contact me so I can try to do my best to fulfil their needs for example finding another place for them according to my right in this case. I could have arranged alternative accommodation, because otherwise I would have been left with an empty apartment last 2 nights unless someone had booked the apartment with such short notice which that did not happen in this case. People can not just make a reservation and leave without even talk to me first so that I could have made some arrangement. The terms are very refined in this respect."

I beg to differ -- it is not very refined. In fact, places like this give a bad reputation to decent hotels and apartment rentals. I would never recommend this apartment to anybody under any circumstance.

Dirty and run down, and no refund offered

We had a lovely stay here, the apartment was just what we needed, right in the middle of everything and we managed to park for free round the corner. Cosy and warm in the cold Icelandic winter and the bed was sooooo comfy.

Great apartment

This apartment was perfect for the group of four that was staying together.  The kitchen and living room were a bonus as it gave us a little more space to move around in.  The apartment was clean, but was worn as other reviews stated.  However, the price was right and if we wanted top of the line it would have cost much more at other locations.  The bedrooms were of ample size and the bathroom was huge.  It took a bit to get use to the sulfur smell of the water in all of Iceland.  At first, it caught us by surprise, but it appears to be an artifact of the mineralization.  the apartment suited us perfectly as we hadn't planned on spending much time there but was cozy to come back to.  The location was perfect as it was steps from Laugavegur for shopping, eating, and nightlife, but was in a quiet location which avoided the masses of people visiting.  The area felt extremely safe to walk late at night.  Skuggoi hotel was diagonal from the apt which made for a an easy pick up and drop off point for excursions or airport transfer. I would definitely stay here again.
