We had some trepidation after booking this because of the limited information online and remote location. What a pleasant surprise. Comparable to a New England B&B, the guesthouse is clean, well maintained, and well appointed. The pictures online don’t do it justice. The location is stunning, at the end of a long dirt road, with the house situated on a remote beach on the fjord. Stay here if you can!

Hidden Gem

I stayed here with my mother during our trip around Iceland.  This was our last night before returning to Reykjavik and it was hands down my favourite place we stayed.  The house is lovely, the room was spacious and warm and the bed very comfy. What really makes this accommodation stand out is its location, right on the beach with beautiful views across the sea.  It's very remote so there's no light polution and we were able to see the northern lights.
There is no TV or wifi available which didn't bother me as I was more interested in enjoying the scenery and just chill.
Breakfast is available between 8-9am and all the guests sit around one big table which was nice as we ended up chatting and sharing our travel experiences.
If I come back to Iceland I would definitely want to stay at this magical place again.

Beautiful place

Need clearer communication prior to arrival as we didn't have cell serve.  Wanted breakfast, but didn't happen even though we requested it when we made reservation.  It was a Sunday so nothing was open in Hofso. If you want/need food, I recommend you bring your own.

Remote, beautiful, nicely appointed.

We had a wonderfull stay at this amazing guesthouse. Beautiful house and the location is magical! By far the best experience we had at a guest house! The room and living area were very clean as well as the kitchen that was very well equiped! It went far above our expectations. There was even a piano!

Magical guesthouse

As a birthday journey me and my husband stayed over night at the residential house at Kolkuós. Wonderful accommodation, I recommend highly to stay there. The old and historic house has been restored in a luxurious way with good eye for details. In the hotel one sees modern elegance and great eye for design blend together with the spirit of the area, but the history of the area is as long as Iceland's history. Today us the modern people are alone in the world there, no hazzle, just peace, the ocean and the wonderful nature. 
The bed was huge and super comfortable and I loved the beautiful bathroom facilities and the vintage furniture in the living room.

Comfort in an historic elegant country hotel.

We drove around the ring road in June and made this our first stop after Reykjavik. We only booked this guest house for one night because we thought that any place where we stayed for more than one night should be in a site with many numerous acclaimed sites (like in the South, for example). However, after arriving and seeing how beautiful this was, we wished that we had booked more than one night there. It was so lovely and peaceful and just amazing! The hotel is located at the end of a 5 km gravel driveway that leads you alongside a lively river that empties into the fjord. The guesthouse sits right on the promontory, and all you can hear are the waves, the birds and the sheep. It's very quiet and calming. Eider ducks, phalaropes, snipes, whimbrels and more swim in the calm water just outside the door. There is a beach to the left of the promontory where you can stroll around and examine what has washed ashore. If you need a place to just BE and to lose your troubles in the bigness of nature, this is the place. There are four guest rooms, a common room, and a kitchen in the basement. Request breakfast ahead of time.

Magical

We stayed for 2 nights in Kolkuos guesthouse. Our host was very warm and welcoming. She made us feel right at home. The room was beautiful and clean. The views were amazing. 

We are spending 17 days in Iceland, and this was by far the most expensive accomodation we stayed at. To be honest, we expected more for this price compared to other accomodations. For example no tv, no wifi and no coffee/tea facilities. We had to pay extra for (basic) breakfast, in their brochure breakfast was included. 
In our opinion this place is very nice but overpriced.



Beuatiful location but....

this was a bit hard to find, as it's down a dirt road off the highway, but worth every minute of the drive. the place is newly renovated and in a lovely spot right on the water. very quiet with gorgeous views. owner is delightful, charming, and tells great stories. we would happily have stayed longer.
