We weren’t expecting much because this little hotel was on a stretch of road with nothing around it. We stayed to explore the area on our way to the east coast. The inside was modern, spacious, clean and cozy. They offered a light breakfast. You could have dinner but we opted to drive into Vik. The workers were very friendly. We had tge end room and really enjoyed it. You look over a valley to the ocean. The only TV you can watch is Netflix, but we were okay with that.

We parked right outside our room. I went out several times at night to check for northern lights and felt safe all the time, plus it was dark enough to see the lights. I would definitely stay here again.

Pleasantly surprised

We stayed at Volcano Hotel for 2 nights (10-12 Sept 2023). We had 2 rooms booked as travelling with friends. Clean spacious room in a quiet location, with friendly hosts. Loved the fact that there was a communal area with sofas, so you could catch up in the evening with friends. There was also loads of books about Iceland to flick through. 
Great breakfast, especially the freshly cooked bread. Scrambled egg available on request  too. 
This would have been a 5 star review if there had been better tea and coffee facilities. There was no tea and coffee facilities in the room, as it was available in the communal area. However there was never any milk available, fresh or UHT. We did always get fresh milk straight away after asking but it did feel like you were being a nuisance. They had also run out of breakfast tea (we had some with us, thankfully)
Other than the minor issue of the tea and coffee facilities, this is a great place to stay.

Loved our stay at Volcano Hotel

First of all, stay here! Seriously book it right now. This hotel has been amazing! The rooms are huge, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. There’s complementary tea, coffee and hot chocolate whenever you like and the wifi works great. The rooms have darkening curtains that work perfect and it’s location is great. Highly recommend!!

Stay here, you won’t regret it!

Lovely place,quiet,clean,good location,good breakfast. The front desk guy was super hardworking: checking people in,serving breakfast,scrambling eggs,washing dishes,he was a one man show. Would stay again.

Lovely place,would recommend.

We arrived 6:40pm with 3 young children and an OAP. We were told they hadn’t received our food reservation and as her shift ended at 9pm she couldn’t help. She recommended a restaurant in Vik and said we wouldn’t need to book. When we arrived we were turned away.  Ended up driving around late with very hungry children. 

Next morning all  that they could accommodate for coeliacs was cucumber, scrambled egg and some frozen GF bread that they suggested putting in the generic toaster with gluten bread! 😳 My daughter went away hungry. 

The positive is that the place was clean and quiet. 


Not coeliac friendly.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It’s quiet, only about 7 rooms. The girl working when we arrived is just the nicest and so hardworking. She was a huge help the day we arrived running our drenched clothing through the dryer for us. We will be forever grateful for that. Rooms are very spacious and clean. It’s sorta middle ground, not a fancy place by any means, but also a step above basic. Breakfast was lovely and included freshly scrambled eggs. They have great blackout curtains for blocking the never setting Iceland sun. There did seem to be a bit of a funky drain smell in the bathroom at times that wafted. Location was great for getting to Vik, black sand beaches, glacier hike, etc.

Quiet, Excellent staff and great accommodations.

The owners/operators were very friendly.  The hotel is clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was a perfect European breakfast buffet.  We ended up having to stay an extra night due to weather and they were very accommodating.  The dinner menu was rustic and delicious.  

Friendly and accommodating

Clean, modern building with classic Scandinavian decor.  The location is nice with a long driveway to the hotel.  Rooms are a good size with wood floors, a king bed, TV, and desk.  The bathroom is large and has a nice shower.  Coffee and tea are available in the break room.  Breakfast was very nice.  You order your eggs as you would like them prepared.  A buffet offers cold cuts, cheeses, bread, muesli, and skyr.  Coffee, tea and apple juice are provided.

Classic Scandinavian lodging - clean, modern, good breakfast

Nice wee no frills hotel, just 10 minutes from Vik. Our room was clean and spacious, with decent Wi-Fi and Netflix. The views from the hotel are lovely, one of the highlights was watching the horses run together in the fields below. Need to definitely book if you want to eat in the restaurant…we somehow missed that memo but the host was kind enough to make a lamb dish for my starving partner which he said was delicious.

Great hotel, not far from Vik

Spacious comfortable room, stylish and modern. Nice selection of meats, fruits, breads/croissants for breakfast and eggs are made to order. Common lounging and dining area has coffee/tea available.  Staff were friendly and helpful. We decided to stay in for dinner and they were kind to accommodate. Small but impactful menu. The lamb and fish dishes were amazing. The chocolate cake rich and decadent.  Location of hotel is about 10 minutes outside of Vik, close to points of interest such as black sand beach etc. Would also be a great location to see northern lights on a clear night.
