This place is like a hidden treasure of Kerala. Managed by CGH this is also one of smallest resort they manage. Note more than 10 cottages I guess or may be less as well. Experience is completely personal. you can ask chef what you want to eat and food is not exceptional but fine. Main thing is location. You need to reach there by boat and its like completely disconnected from world. You have falls and river right next where you can play and have fun. Fishing is another big attraction. Overall nice place if you need some peace.

Really Quiet.

It takes a car ride , then a jeep ride and finally a boat to get you to the property, so it’s truly a getaway! 

Pros 
- beautiful property on the banks of the river
- minimal and beautifully kept property 
- Perfect for a couple of days to be away from the city
- can use the pool or take a dip in the man made basin
- excellent food! Fresh and tasty and is a fixed menu. If you need something specific , you need to let the chef know in advance 
- particularly loved eating the meals set up in front of the river . Especially dinner was in candlelight.

Cons
- though the cottages are spacious, I personally found the rooms to be very dark with all the wood.
- internet and phone won’t work. So you better come well planned on what you want to do.
- no much else to do but eat and swim around , the property is not very huge. 

I recommend this if you are drained out from the monotony of the city or else come with a big group to keep you company of you are not the one to surrender to nature.

A real Getaway

Have loved every CGH resort I’ve been to and this little place in the mid of the forest is so peaceful. Staff is super friendly to make your stay that much more comfortable. Thank you, Mr. Girish and your boys. You made us feel like family in the 2 days that we stayed with you. Memorable trip!!

Beautiful place. Amazing staff. Lovely food. 

We visited the place with family...The travel takes about 3 hours in total from Ernakulam..After parking the car we have to move to the resort in a jeep for about 20-25 min inside the forest (off road) and there after in a small boat..resort has only four rooms and all are equally good as all has the view of the river. Though the river sounds rough you can have bath in the river at certain points which the staffs are very familiar..At times u can spot animals, we spotted baby elephants and parents on the other side...Food is fresh and tasty..Break fast and dinner were served on the banks of the river..It's indeed a great feeling..The bath in the natural pool is a great feeling..It literally rejunvante...The  estate walk is great experience...Very friendly staff..The kitchen provides you with traditional kerala food and also other varieties..but with not much choices..It would be good if you can give your choices before hand..Manu, our jeep driver and Munilal staff needs great appreciation as they were with us for all our needs in side the resort..The smile of munilal while serving food was very soothing...Lots of places for kids to run around...careful about small insects as it's a forest area...It's a experience and a great feeling..Rooms are all traditional type rooms.

Note:

It would be better to provide an extra cot and bed..Not a bed alone..Since it is a  forest area there are small insects that gets in to the bed.

No toiletries brush and comb etc available in the rooms, but will provided on request

The rooms need through cleaning..Spider webs were seen inside the rooms..

The cost calculation is comparatively on the higher side considering the facilities available..May because of the CGH brand hotel

A serene resort on the banks of the river

Idyllic, serene and wonderful, Quiet by the river is a must visit. Wonderful place and extraordinary hospitality by Girish, Manu and team. The Periyar is majestic across the rocks and we were so lucky to see spotted deer and a whole family of elephants across the river. The food was also wonderful. Worth every penny.

Don't miss it

Spent a day at the island resort with family. Superb location and ambiance. Very friendly staff. Elephants came to the island at night and left after daybreak.Went for a short trek around the island in the morning with the friendly manager.
Food was basic and homely but good.
Was disappointed with the dirty swimming pool and bed room which had heavy dust under the furniture.

Forest resort

Very nice place with good pollution free ambience but not very far from cochin.Kids enjoyed the river and resort pool equally.We spotted some wild elephants on the way to resort.Staff and service was exceptional. Always prompt.Special mention to Manu Varghese who took us for a small boat ride and trekking around the resort.Food was excellent by chef Mathews.Overall a very nice experience we enjoyed it thoroughly.

Getting to the property from the pick-up point will take about an hour.
A jeep ride through the forest and a short boat ride to reach the property.

But once there, you are just blown away by the sound of the river and the greenery.

The food is very good. Doesn't have that 'restaurant' feel. Like good home cooked food. Nothing fancy, but very apt for the place and vibe.

The only thing we missed out were the mixers. 
They only had Water and some Watermelon Juice.

If you want your soda, tonic and some juices you must plan to carry your own.
We should have called and asked before going.

They service in general is very good and they try their best to help you out.
But being such a remote place, they can only give you what they have.

So best is to plan well for anything you might want, rather than assuming a normal hotel mini-fridge will be there.

Ideal for a few couples to take a 2 day break.

Not much for kids to do

Amazing setting for a quiet getaway

Hidden away from the bustle of the city and the nagging mobile towers . It's an offroader's delight to the banks of the Periyar , from where the property lies a silent boat ride away . It's serene , it's neat , it's mouthwatering and it's seductive . The tranquil proved Joshua's words true . To enjoy a Roll's , it's not enough to be seated , the chauffeuring should equal it . The staff are an asset . Mr Girish , Mr Manu , Mr Mathews , Mr Punilal , Mr Binod are the names that remain etched in memory . Their acts of hospitality challenge the heavier degrees in the industry . With the CGH genes , I expect the team to excel further . The stay is one to be cherished ... all moments of poetry . You get picked up from a parking spot near Paniely Poru ecotourism parking spot (about 2 kms away in a house where you can park your car). Drive 45 min to 1.5 hours (we took it slow to look for birds) through the jungle (no access otherwise) to a jetty. A boat takes you across to the island where the resort is located. Sound of the river and birds is all you have. Chef Matthew made a lot of effort to cook organic veg meals with local flavours. Housekeeper Punilal Chauhan was ever smiling, pleasant and eager to make it comfortable for us.  Manu, driver and guide, took us on walks around the island (about 1 hour) and a jungle walk on the main land (couldnt do too much of this due to the elephants). Vodafone network worked in some areas of the resort, so I could choose to remain connected with some work :-). All the four cottages are equivalent in size. The Grand river lodge is independent and has more direct views of the river. The first one is near the entrance, but no big deal as there are only 4 cottages in total. The other two are back to back, nice for a family and also very secluded. Every day breakfast and dinner were served in different spots.

The sound of the river was loud when we went. In december, the water level is supposed to recede and they serve dinner in the middle of the river.
