My wife and I visited Takdah, and stayed in Bungalow no.12 , this month, August '23. 
What was good.
1. Ambience . As this is peak rainy season in North Bengal, it was raining most of the time. One can just sit and watch the swirling clouds, for hours together. There is the sound of waterfall just beside the bungalow,  as a constant soothing background sound. 
2. Surroundings. 
This Bungalow is situated beside a dense pine forest. One can explore the surrounding woods and enjoy the atmosphere. 
3. The sound of cicadas. 
In the evenings, one can hear the sound of cicadas (an insect) in the trees, which rises to the level of a crescendo.  For city dwellers like us, it was an eerie, but a very interesting experience, at the same time. 
4. The Bungalow itself. 
The Bungalow was built in 1911, and gives all the vibes of the British era. 
5. Tea gardens. There are some lovely tea gardens like the Rungli Rungliot in the near vicinity of this place. 

What was not good.

1. Upkeep of the bungalow. 
Not very well maintained. 
2. Very limited and basic food menu.
3. Dogs roaming around the property.  
I hv no ill feelings towards dogs, but these are kept by the owners and not cared well enough. In fact the were smelling a helluva lot. 
4 . Overpriced.  Considering the facilities on offer, seemed overpriced. 

Bungalow no.12 , a mixed experience 

We stayed for 2 nights in Takdah british colonial bungalow no. 3, sambhala, last week . We booked a suite. 
The good points are that the bungalow looks classy, the rooms r big n clean, the place is serene n peaceful and of course the owner is cordial n tries his best to make u feel comfortable. 
But there r some very bad points...the staff is primarily rude and says "NO" for most things, including a second or a little late(8am) cup of morning tea in very rude words, unless the owner intervenes.
The food options r extremely limited. There r more remote places which has slightly better options. I feel here the staff r rather unwilling than the remoteness of the place . Bathrooms  r small and stinky. Lastly too many stray dogs in the compound which might be unwelcome for many.
The place could be made really stay worthy if these points are attended to.

Not so good.

Overhyped & overpriced. The only view is of a pine forest, which turns boring soon. Access roads are in very bad condition and service & hospitality is very poor. The owners (family) are rude, arrogant, verbally abusive & turn physically violent if someone complains about the food & service. Inspite of running a business in West Bengal, the owner verbally abuses all Bengalis, calling them dogs & what not…. We were forced to leave the premises at night after being physically assaulted by the owner. The local cops had to intervene to protect us. The owner clearly stated “if you are looking for good stay & food then stay in a 5-star hotel, don’t come here. If you stay here, just have what is served & don’t complain.” Avoid these so-called English Bungalows in North Bengal. They are nothing short of a SCAM…

Overhyped & overpriced...

We stayed at Sambhala Heritage Bungalow No. 3 for 2 nights.  One has to hire a cab from NJP or Bagdogra as there are no shared options available, Tukdah being an offbeat destination.  There is not much option regarding food and one has to settle with what is available.  They offer fooding for Rs. 600 per person including 3 meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner and evening tea.  Staff is cordial.  

Sambhala Heritage Bungalow No. 3

Takdah is placed at an altitude of 5100 feet at the foothill of the Himalayan Forest vegetation. There are about 15 heritage colonial bungalows at Takdah.These bungalows have been built between the years 1905 and 1915. The bungalows are also popularly known by the local name of ‘Kothis’.it is located 28km from Darjeeling.

The Bungalow No.3 has 6 frooms, Rs.2000/2500/3000 of two each.Host is very nice & food is excellent, Ycan call him at 79800453218.

Takdah Heritage Bungalow No.3

Been there on 6th and 7th October. It is a home stay..home away from home and better. Mr. Sovit Lepcha and his staff will shower with the best of hospitality. A quaint place. Green all around and the food they serve is excellent. Mr. Lepcha will be ready to solve all your problems, if you have any. His No. is 99328 56387. He can also arrange transport for near by sight seeing.

takdah Heritage colonial bunglow no. 15

I have stayed in great hotels across the country, 5 star hotels, boutique hotels including top brands but the stay in Takdah will have a special place in my heart. At the lap of a dense pine forest, this is absolute beauty. There are riom for improvement as far as rooms and facilities are concerned, they are not really royal as the Bungalow is. But with the limited stuff the service  match that. Excellent location, Great atmosphere, great stuffs and a great Host. 
Food is just awesome. And they way it was served is great too.
I will love to go back again. To explore the pine forests, deserted road. Preferably with a group.

You can't get better than this

It is a beautiful property with a sprawling bungalow, well maintained wooden floors and ceiling, lavishly built on a deep pine forested hill. The rooms are spacious, each with a sitting area and large bathroom and the suite has a fireplace that works. 
Walk down 1km to the market if you wish or stroll on the path into the woods just behind the bungalow, or laze under the umbrella in the lawn with the dogs--Time stands still here! 
Lacking: dressing mirror, room heater and electric kettle with tea bagswhich should be complimentary in such an exclusive place. There is only one staff who does everything, which makes service slow.

Colonial retreat in the pines

A few days ago I have visited there. I got a big room with a clean bathroom in reasonable prices. I am very satisfied with those facilities because these are matters for the tourist. It has a royalty.

Top hotel

It was my dream to stay in a colonial bungalow and it became a reality when I got to stay in this 110 year old structure in Takdah. Located at a distance of about 27 km from Darjeeling, this place is so peaceful that I could have stayed here for a lifetime.The property is well maintained and the staff is very helpful and courteous.One of my best experiences ever!!!
