Positives
The staff are amazing and so helpful, they are certainly dedicated to their jobs.
We enjoyed a few days here, relaxing on our balcony overlooking the sea.  The area is lovely, very tranquil and about a 20-25 minute walk to the Cliffs (it was hot for us so we didn’t walk fast).
The cottages are a great size, the a/c worked well and having the balcony is a real treat.

Negatives - 
The food is okay here, some of our dishes were great but others were a little bland and overcooked.
There was no cleaning during our 3 night stay, which was a shame as it does mention daily cleaning in the booking.

Great stay overall.

Excellent location at the far end of Black Beach, a lovely 15  minute coastal walk to the North Cliff action or a 5 minute tuk tuk ride.  Watching the fishermen hauling in their nets early in the morning while the Brahmini kites circle above is fascinating. The rooms are a bit dark and slightly dated, but the manager actively encouraged my comments as they are keen to keep their 5 * status. They are a good size, with decent shower and nice little balcony overlooking the garden. The food was mostly pretty good. We didn’t have dinner here as there are lots of very good options in town. Highly recommend the seafood at Clafouti, best we have had in a long time 👌 and the coffee at Aum and Bindi (?) are excellent…and have the cardamom karma coconut shake …soooooo good.
I could easily have spent another week here doing yoga (great drop in morning class at place next to Trattoria) and befriending the local dogs. Please look out for the gorgeous girl (dog!) who hangs out at Sandy Bay. Loves attention and seems a bit of a lonely soul 😔

Great spot to unwind and get your beach chill vibe on

Loved the simplicity, the surroundings, felt like paradise. The cottage was idyllic, the bed very comfortable and the shower was great. Most of all the staff, very attentive, friendly and made our stay so memorable.
Shout out the chef his food is delicious.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Would highly recommend and hopefully we will return

Perfect place to unwind and watch the sunsets

Staying at Maadathil was quite simply one of the best weeks of my life, and I have travelled ALOT! Situated at the end of the beach, this is a haven of peace and beauty,  far from the stressful hustle of 'the cliff'. The beach itself is clean and nearly empty and the 25 minute walk along it, done twice daily for massage, yoga and my favourite breakfast café high on the cliff, is a real treat. And a real treat to 'come home' afterwards! Most of the time  I was almost alone with the fishermen bringing in their nets or the setting sun, or the rising moon or the stars and the lapping waves. The cottage is spotless and a perfect retreat. I was writing a book and was just alone with the sounds of the ocean for all hours of the day, punctuated by the odd dip in the sea. The people are so warm and welcoming, and the food, especially once they got to know me and what I liked and started to make things especially for me, is delicious. You will want to venture out of course, and you must (check out the amazing massage available from Suresh at Puthooram Ayurvedic Resort) but you can't really get better than this. Every day I got a little message about the fresh catch of the day, and the cook made me exceptional hot fresh fish curries. (I'm still waiting for that recipe!) Smiles, warmth and quiet abound. Long may they keep this precious atmosphere! I was so sad to leave after 6 days even though I was off to a posh Ayurvedic resort. Next time I won't bother going anywhere else. I'll just come here! Thank you everyone for an unforgettable week. I'll definitely be back!

True Paradise

We stayed here for 12 nights and had the most relaxing time. We chose the Super Deluxe room with a deck both front and back.
The back looks over the huge pond which is full of birds and lily pads 
At the front you can hear the sea and listen to chirping frogs and crickets at night.
You're close to wildlife here and we loved seeing Mongoose, lizards, a wild cat, Kites and Kingfishers. Plus a large Huntsman (harmless) spider safely and carefully moved out by the hotel team.
The entire team are great here. Cheerful and helpful all the time.  We were made very welcome by everyone.
We swam in the sea most days. You need to be a strong swimmer due to the current but it's tons of fun bobbing on the waves and avoiding the break that will thoroughly dunk you if you time it wrong. 
The area in and around is virtually litter free and the hotel avoid waste with a water cooler and metal straws.
We are in the restaurant a lot. The prices are good and the food excellent. We loved every meal .  Beer isn't served. 
The room was clean and spacious and quiet.
It takes about 30 mins to walk to the cliff along the beach and a tuk tuk costs around 250inr for a direct trip back from town or 400inr if you go via the ATM and Liquor store. 
It's a lovely place for relaxing and enjoying the beach. 

Relaxing great value small hotel

We're currently travelling in South India for 3-mths till end-Feb 2024 and spent 5nts at Maadathil in a fabulous Deluxe Cottage (D6) from 6-11/12. I'd actually booked a Super Deluxe but we were happy enough with the Deluxe.

Anyway, I knew we were going to love it from the moment we arrived, and it didn't disappoint! On arrival, we were warmly greeted by Aslam, Reservations Mgr, who showed us our lovely bungalow before checking us in and introducing us to the rest of his team. They're a happy bunch and have respect for one another. Restaurant staff, Abi and Monsi, served us flavoursome meals each day and every one delicious, especially the butter fish fresh from local fishermen and served on a banana leaf. My husband says his best chicken fried rice and fresh pineapple juices were at Maadathil! 

The cottage was beautiful and we were lucky enough to hv two balconies, the rear one overlooking a lotus pond that when in bloom is a stunning carpet of vivid pink. The pond was a hive of activity with neighbouring buffaloes coming daily to wallow in its cool water accompanied by an entourage of egrets, a variety of fish darting under the leaves, dragonflies, and every morning and evening the delight of a throaty frog chorus - nature at its best! Palm trees in front of the cottages provide shade for sunbeds, and support for several hammocks and a swing, and beyond these stretches a golden beach and the Arabian Sea. It's not advisable to swim here as there's a strong undercurrent and the waves are big and powerful but you can nearer the cliff area, or just sit at the edge. We're now into our fifth week of travel - Varkala was our fourth destination after Mumbai, Trivandrum, and Kanyakumari, and we’ve stayed in five other places since, but Maadathil is an undisputed favourite and I suspect it will remain so. We loved it so “Thank You” to all for maintaining such a wonderful place, and for making our stay special. 


A total joy in every way!

We stayed here for 6 nights over Christmas and cannot rate Maadathil cottages highly enough. The location is second to none - gorgeous beach and a fabulous garden with sun beds in the shade of coconut trees. The room was large and had a comfy bed, good air con and a cute terrace with chairs. Breakfast is included qnd of a high standard and although we don’t often eat where we’re staying in the evening, we did during our stay due to the delicious options available. The staff were incredible, all were friendly, knowledgeable and so welcoming - it was a slice of heaven and we’ll definitely come back. Highly recommend Maadathil - if you’re looking at this review, don’t hesitate to book!

True paradise

This is the paradise in Kerala, just a couple of yards from the magnificent - and very clean, even by Indian standards - Odayam Beach, and within walking distance to the mighty Kerala cliff with its shops and cafés. Not only are the cottages excellent, with comfortable beds and good facilities, Maadathil has also a great restaurant where you can order catch of the day - the local fishermen are very active in the morning - and other Keralan delicacies. Close by, you also can do your morning yoga or get a Ayuvedic massage. The perfect place to reload your batteries and enjoy Indian hospitality in a relaxing and stunningly beautiful setting.

A little paradise in Kerala

We stayed in Beach Resort. Mind blowing location. Very serene with beautiful and well maintained spacious rooms. Manager and supporting staff are very polite and helpful.

As advised by Manager, we did not follow Google after certain point. Manager helped us (over the phone call)  find our way to our resort. May be intimidating first time driving this patch but is drivable even for SUV.

Would definitely recommend this resort.

Worth the time and money spent. 

This is one of the offbeat location I ever visited . They are just beside sea beach and they have a small beach which seems like a personal beach . 
They took care of everything including breakfast , room service and even scooty hire
