The family room was pretty spacious and well furnished .  The bathroom is small, and the strange smell keeps on coming from it after the first use itself. 
The restaurant is very good. 
The views from the room are average with one side   close  to another hotel building  part wrapped in tarpauline.. givong it a shabby look. Even otherwise the views are not very great.  The advance booking rate was almost 30 per cent or more than the current booking rate. So dont book in advance . 
IN SHORT A DECENT STAY BUT NOTTHE VALUE FOR MONEY HOTEL. TOO EXPENSIVE GIVEN ITS LOCATION,  DESIGN AND FACILITIES


A good hotel but No value for money

Very good ambience. We are here for my wife’s birthday. The hotel staff have made  Beautiful arrangements. Food was tasty and hospitality especially by Mr. Elys was excellent. Highly recommendable for people who would like to stay in Gulmarg.

Recommendable stay in Gulmarg

Lovely property. Very friendly staff. Had a wonderful time at the place. The staff were particularly attentive to the needs of our young kids and ensured they were well taken care of. The property is located close to the gondola ride start point and lot of open area so our kids were able to enjoy playing in the snow.

I only wish the buffet at dinner time gave more options to explore the local Kashmiri cuisine.

Cozy, chalet style rooms with lovely service and surroundings. Snow caped mountains all around the Hotel. The Gondola is an easy 10 minute walk. Majid was extremely helpful and escorted us to the gondola ride in heavy snow conditions. He was even professional enough to refuse a gratuity when I offered it. The reception staff are also very courteous and polite. The only thing I didn’t appreciate was that the restaurant staff came up to me said to “make his boys happy”. Basically he was telling me to tip them directly on my face. That is not very classy and ruins the effort the other staff members are putting in.

During a spontaneous trip to Gulmarg, Kashmir, we opted for a family room at Shaw Inn at the last minute. This decision, unfortunately, resulted in a higher payment than one would normally expect.

Keeping the pricing aside, Shaw Inn presents itself as a charming boutique hotel, housing 16 well-appointed rooms. The accommodations come equipped with essential amenities, including room heaters, which operate on a schedule from 6 AM to 10 AM and again from 6 PM to 11 PM. This contrasts with our previous experience at Radisson, where we could set the room temperature to our preference throughout the day. The absence of constant temperature control at Shaw Inn was a notable difference. The staff's dedication to service is commendable, always ready to assist.

The rooms offer the convenience of modern entertainment with TVs that support streaming services like YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, provided guests use their own accounts. However, the hotel's weak WiFi connection poses a challenge, although my personal Jio 5G connection proved to be a reliable alternative.

On the culinary front, the hotel's offerings leave room for enhancement. The quality and variety of food could be improved to match the overall experience of the stay.

A peculiar inconvenience noted was the bathroom's jet spray, which is directly linked to the geyser, leading to an inability to adjust the water temperature. Also, there is a constant stink near the bathroom area. These details, albeit minor, suggests an area for infrastructural refinement.

In conclusion, Shaw Inn offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with exceptional service and comfortable rooms. However, attention to culinary offerings, minor bathroom adjustments, and the provision of consistent room temperature control could elevate the overall guest experience. This hidden gem in the heart of Gulmarg has the potential to provide an even more delightful stay with a few improvements.

A Cozy Stay with Room for Improvement

We planned a seven day Gulmarg skiing trip in the second week of January 2024. 
Well prepared for minus 15 degree, snow covered slopes, with personal instructors for each of us 12 people (three families). 
Sadly, climate change hit us in the face. No snowfall, dry  sub zero temperature, all brown mountains with a little sprinkle of white, mostly ice from a month old snowfall. 
Let’s make the most of what we have, when the other two families canceled the trip due to medical reasons. 
So no snowfall, no friends accompanying us (we are a family of 4) and we leave for our much awaited, first ever skiing trip in the bitterly cold Himalayas. 

All this and we still managed  to have a great trip!! Thanks to an incredibly comfortable stay in Shaw Inn, Gulmarg. 

The staff was extremely helpful and  proactive - who made us feel at home, helped us with all the arrangements from cabs to the best of skii instructors who were very resourceful to find hidden snow slopes good enough for us to learn skiing.  
The hospitality of each and every staff member was remarkable, especially Syed Masroor and Gulzar, Moin to name a few and the chef Mr.Nazim Pathan had gone out of his way to prepare Kashmiri authentic delicacies for us. 
A special mention to Faiz ji, who we felt was there just to take care of us and appeared like a jinny whenever we needed anything. 

They enthusiastically arranged Bonfires and barbecues on request to make our evenings warm and memorable.
A boutique hotel, Shaw Inn is a beautifully and thoughtfully done up space with attention to detail, it has a charming and welcoming entry. All of the interiors of the building is pinewood cladded which makes it cozy and all of the ceilings were hand carved in Kashmiri katamband work, the rooms are spacious and comfortable with clean linens and well equipped bathrooms and dressing rooms. The heating systems were comfortable to withstand the extreme cold weather outside. They even have a little store  with an exquisite collection of Kashmiri Pashmina shawls, stoles and firans.
The location of the hotel is perfect, close to the market and a short walk away from Gondola and yet one can hike away into the woods and sit by the flowing river(or a frozen one, depending on what month you visit) and have a picnic in the day. 
We had an amazing and memorable stay in Shaw Inn and will surely return to be spoiled by their hospitality yet again.

Warmst place to stay in Gulmarg

We had a very memorable experience at Shaw Inn. 
It is a boutique hotel with quaint cottage looks but the room interiors and facilities are very modern.
The entire staff was very welcoming with great hospitality. 
They also helped us with my son's birthday celebrations.
The property is 5 mins away from Gondola.


Cozy Boutique Stay in Gulmarg

We didnt actually stay there but had the privilege to have lunch on a cold afternoon at their restaurant and Mr.Tawseef was there for us to help. BTW we are strict Muttonatarians and we had hot Rista, the best that we ever had in JK with Tawa Butter Roti. Totally heavenly. I will give it a 10 on 10. Same goes with the service of Tawseef Bhai. 

Shaw Inn Restaurant review

A nice hotel with a cozy ambience,in the  lap of Gulmarg.For those of you who are a fan of Wood Work, this hotel is for you,as it has a fully wooden infrastructure indoors.
We booked a Family Room,it had 2 rooms together, So 2 double beds in total and 1 common bathroom.The room was spacious and good.Also the bathroom was good.

The view from my room 
window was breathtaking and spectacular. We had a view of the lovely Himalayan range,along with beautiful greenary everywhere.There was also a view of other Hotels and Cottages nearby which looked really cool.The hotel had  a nice and well maintained garden, where one could have a soothing cup of tea or coffee and watch the mesmerizing view.

The location of this Hotel was near to the Gondola ride setup,and you could also walk down to the point.

Also we enjoyed hiking in the woods near by,discovering new picture points, streams which was really fun for me and my kids..🙂

Nice and Cozy Hotel

It’s more of a bed and breakfast than an Inn. We couldn’t find any other acco so paid a lot to stay here. The place didn’t live up to the price.
However the rooms are nicely decorated with Kashmiri embroidery curtains and it’s got wooden walls and ceiling. The bathrooms are clean but doesn’t flush well and is always wet. No one comes to clean if you stay for more than one night. The views from windows are magnificent.
They put loud music in the night and you can hear it in your room. You can hear your neighbors and all so the rooms aren’t very quiet.
The breakfast was very good on both days. Wouldn’t choose this place but then it’s hard to find places in Gulmarg. Everything is very expensive here
