Average place to stay. Friendly staff. One visiting South Kolkata on work or personal visit could stay this place. It is close to quite a few eateries and cafe. Market and malls are nearby too. Best part is one can take a leisurely evening stroll or a brisk morning walk in the nearby Rabindra Sarovar.

Quiet place for a short stay.

Location and food is best. Hotel is also neat & clean and sufficiently spacious. Staffs are also good but at the time of my stay they having problem in lift. I think it must be taken seriously. Overall my stay was nice. 

Nice stay 

Wanted to be near Lake Market and chose this property, Room provided for the first night was pretty bad, however, for subsequent nights  we had a spacious room. It had free breakfast served in the room and free wifi. For the price paid and the location I found the property very satisfactory. The staircases and surrounding areas were always littered with waste, which was an eye sore.

Very location specific budget hotel

I love staying here because of such a good services of this hotel. Rooms are specious and well cleaned. Staff is so cooperative and friendly. I also booked morning breakfast which was slap so amazing and delicious.

Best hotel at this cost

 Decent hotel .  curtains are in bad shape.  Room renovations need to be done.   Walls are peeling. Otherwise  ok ...  food is average .  Wifi is poor .  Breakfast is complimentary  but  very limited choice . Everything  is near   markets  malls   .   

Holiday

We were a group of 12 friends, so we were looking for a budget hotel and thought this was a good find. However, upon arrival, they demanded full payment, even after we requested that they give us a bit of time to exchange money, they still demanded payment, so had to pay about 40% of the total, literally using all the money we had. 
As if they couldn't make things worse, they put us in separate buildings, saying that they had some sort of policy where males and females couldn't stay together unless married (and had to show proof), but they wouldn't even let us go into the rooms!!! Not even to get stuff!!! We had to literally meet at the lobby!!
The staff was being completely illogical. The rooms were decent enough but even the room servicing was very poor. There are plenty of other places available nearby. Since., we only stayed the one night, we decided not to leave and look for another place.

Avoid unless you want to deal with illogical staff

Cooperative hotel staff.
Veg food is excellent.
Clean and neat rooms.

Need sufficient lights in restaurant for eating, as it was earlier. But now as hotel management started BAR in the restaurant, kept light ver less.

satisfied stay at Hotel Second Hous

Very very friendly and prompt staff. Comfortable rooms and a good location. All this makes it a great option in Kolkata while at a very reasonable price. The bar is pretty well stocked and inviting as well.
