I hope to return here someday. I really liked exploring the grounds and crossing a tributary of the mighty river on the swinging cable bridge. We stayed in a large room in the old castle and ate a nice meal prepared by the gracious old noble family.

Best hospitality, unforgettable place

We had the most lovely suite - slightly larger than our home, and  furnished with period furniture. Comforatable bed and large bathroom with good shower. 
Fantastic position and meals were taken ( when it was not too windy)  in a delightful turret or on the roof with lovely views over the Chambral river.
The food was some of the best we have ever had, and all nicely served. The staff, though they did not speak much English were very helpful and attentive.
My only (slight) complaint was that there were few places to sit outside in comfort. The roof was very hot with no shade, and the benches and chairs in the garden also had no shade and were not very comfortable. Nice verandahs though.
We took a pleasant early morning river trip and also a walk over the little suspension bridge which leads to an easy path through fields wher you can see what goes on in rural Rajhastan.
The owner ( who is a bit of a foodie judging by an article in a magazine I saw), speaks excellent English and was very welcoming and helpful.

A wonderful Rajhastani experience

It was a long and bumpy ride to this hotel but was well worth it. When we arrived we were blown away by the setting, the rooms, the welcome and the visual impact. The rooftop restaurant was equally impressive but we misunderstood the pricing of lunch and dinner. As a consequence we had both. They were the most expensive meals we had in India and far from being the most varied or tasty. On balance we’d still have had one or the other, but not both. I went on the boat trip which was ok but no more than a boat trip. We had been spoilt by other trips on the Chambal river but this was literally  an hours row up the river where you are quite likely to know more about the wildlife than the staff who were with you. Whenever I asked a question I was passed the bird book. Glad we went and loved the stay but it fell a bit short of excellent.

A truly awesome hotel bit some surprises.

If you enjoy Indian history combined with authenticity then Bhainsrorgarh is the palace for you. The family are in residence & take great care of their guests, the rooms are comfortable but not flash. Quietly rowing down the Chambal river searching for crocodiles & kingfishers or gently speed boating upriver to Titanic Island & a waterside picnic watching otters at play are an essential ingredient of this fascinating part of Rajahstan. Take a walk over the village’s wobbly bridge, past farmer’s harvesting their mustard crop and young children running out to practise their ‘hello mister’.

A perfect place to see this area of Rajasthan

Four of us had such a wonderful time here. Our hosts were kind and informative, the staff were attentive in a non intrusive and friendly way and the accommodating and setting were exquisite. The food was also delicious. 

 If only we could have changed our travel plans and stayed longer. We would certainly love to return. Strongly recommended for anyone wanting somewhere special to stay.

Simply wonderful

Quite a long drive on a bumpy road and a narrow street through the village but once you enter the property you are faced by this stunning old Fort, ancestral home clinging on the top of the cliff by the Chambal river. Beautiful staircase to reach the open reception area/ sitting area, adorned with pots and pots of red amaryllis. What a welcoming  sight. Our twin room was very spacious decorated in Mughal style with a balcony facing the Chambal River through the trees. Great spacious bathroom too. Dinners were on the roof terrace, what a wonderful views and breakfasts too or in the  delighful garden undernea the the tree canopy. Very attentive staff and amazing food. On arrival, late afternoon we went for a boat trip and were served tea and biscuits. We even spotted a gharial crocodile ( there are quite commun in this river but there were not as many there as in other part) and a huge variety of birds.You can visit also explore the town and go for a walk in the countrysideand when we left visited the Badoli temples near by.
Although a bit lost and difficult to reach it is an amazing place, a hidden gem to discover for a peaceful few days.

A wonderful place to relax

I loved my stay at Bhainsrorgarh fort. It is a long and fairly bumpy ride to get there but the trip is well worth it. The most beautiful old family home that has been slowly restored so that is can accomodate people coming through to see the fort and it’s town. We stayed for two nights on our way between Udaipur and Jaipur. The fort sits on top of a cliff overlooking a sweeping river. We went for a walk though the little town and then into the lush green fields of the countryside over the impressive (and slightly scary) bridge. The food, which was delicious, was served on the roof of the fort. The rooms were very lovely with the most comfortable beds of my entire stay in India. 

A hidden gem

We arrived in the dark and were astounded by what greeted us in daylight. A magnificent stunning spacious palace, high on the banks overlooking 2 rivers, 
Breakfast and dinner on the battlements, flaring braziers for comfort, varied and lovely food, attentive staff, difficult to find enough superlatives for this place. Although it is in the midst of the Rajusthan countryside and is a bit remote we found plenty to do, boat trips,village walks, jeep safaris an impressive Jain Temple at Badoli, but primarily a brilliant place to relax and absorb the privilege of just being there!
The owner was a charming, informative host, accommodation luxurious, we had a suite of rooms, bedroom with a four poster,sitting room and bathroom.
Public and outside space was equally impressive, lawns for lounging, courtyards and nooks for privacy and contemplation, This is a very special indeed and we are still talking about it.

Breathtaking

I first travelled to this breathtaking  location, once an outpost of the kingdom of Mewar  235 km northeast of Udaipur on the Chambol River, 10 years ago with my late husband.  We were entranced by the opportunity to stay in the partially restored home of the royal family-in -residence Hemendra Singh and his brother, who welcomed us again on this visit.  
I had managed to convince a group of friends to return to enjoy this rare treasure despite the challenging journey to get there.  They all agreed that the trip was worth while and, in fact, some now say it was the highlight of an amazing journey that included some of the most luxurious and remote locations in Rajasthan. 

There were 5 restored suites  on my first visit and another four rooms had been restored this time.  They are furnished with care, style and sensitivity and I must say the beds and pillows won first place in my trip (which included the Taj Palace Mumbai and Devi Garh - surely two of the finest properties in India).  Our group had 5 of the rooms and suites and only one other was occupied so we felt as though we had it to ourselves.

We were taken for a walk through the unspoiled village at the side of the fort and then across the tributary of the Chambol over a suspension bridge, and into the fields.  Such a privilege - just us and the local people...a real travellers dream.  On our return to the fort we found a table set for lunch under the trees with spectacular views of the vast Chambol River - perfect for the occasional sighting of a cruising crocodile.

Breakfast and dinner were served on the rooftop and were delicious.

This glorious place confirms the tenet that the locations that are hardest to reach  are the most rewarding.  I hope to return one day.

Unique Privilege

This is the ultimate chill-out place for those of us who have spent  a busy time travelling through India.  Indiana Jones meets English Pastoralist sensibilities, host Hemendra and his lovely staff made our three day stay at the end of a wonderful vacation unforgettable.  The food was really good and the chill nights warmed by hanging out on the roof, either soaking up the most amazing views of distant mountains, a slow, wide river, fields full of crops tended by villagers or gazing at the stars. We stayed on the second floor in a massive suite complete with romantic and comfy bed affording views of sunrise and sunset from lovely balconies.  A large sitting room and dining area if one wanted it and great shower in the huge bathroom.  To top it all, the only hotel I have been in on the trip which had a Lavazza coffee maker.  (Rather better than the hotel coffee -which was my only disappointment).
