a wonderful experience in Allahabad. we stay few days and everything was excellent - rooms, hosts, day trips.we had a warm welcome and we do not forget our dinners with excellent food and nice conversations.

Excellent host

I planned for a day in Allahabad on my otherwise Varanasi centric trip and glad I choose Kanchan Villa for the single day. Traveling with family, this place is awesome. The host made us welcome and arranged for our city tour (via Toto) or the next day drop to Varanasi. We took the family suite (1st floor) - the rooms are big and airy with good amenities. The owners live on the same premises and are always eager to help you out. The staff is also helpful and courteous and declined the tip I offered for their help.
Definitely one of the better places to stay in Allahabad and in my list, if I visit the city in the future.

Exceptional Hospitality

The place is run by owners who reside in the bungalow. It does provide a homey feel as it’s actually a home. So if you are looking for a local touch it’s fabulous. But if you are looking for luxury holiday you may be disappointed. The villa is in a congested area not well connected from the main road, parking can be an issue. The place is overpriced for the facilities offered. It would be good for a price range of 2 to 3 K , not 8 K for an overnight stay. We had to pay in cash , cards were not acceptable. The timings are also too restrictive. So if you want to visit a home with a granny go for it. 

Homestay Villa

After 5 months traveling through India we kan honestly say that Kanchan Villa rates as our favorite homestay. The rooms are cosy and comfortable. Ivan and Pixie made us feel at home like old friends. They arranged for tuktuk driver to show us around Allahabad. Their lovely Villa is walking distance from the Tombs but especially in the heat it is convenient to be shown around. The room had many outlets for charging electronics, Wifi worked slow but steady. Breakfast was a delicious combination of Indian and Continental; homemade jams, cheese, fried egg and toast and some freshly made Indian dish. 
Dinner too was to die for. We learned much about the Indian culture too. 
We stayed two nights and decided to spend one night at their other amazing and serene place “Loni Kot Village Retreat” about 63 km from Allahabad. We highly recommend Kanchan Villa.

A real treat. 

We stayed for one night in October 2019. Rooms were very comfortable, spacious and well decorated. Hotel is a heritage home and is very well maintained. Staff was courteous and attentive. Food was also freshly prepared, with homemade conserves etc provided for  breakfast. Location was slightly far from Allahabad main city.

Great Home Stay

Our room was on the first floor , staff took our luggage up for us. Large clean rooms with good air conditioning and a ceiling fan and tv in our room. The sheets & towels were clean. Bathroom had good hot water, toiletries, and clean western toilet with toilet paper.
There is a large lounge room to meet other guests over a drink- alcoholic or not, and to chat with the friendly hosts.
The hot breakfast was extensive, with Indian choices, & eggs cooked to order. 
We didn’t stay for lunch, but were offered a choice for dinner. We had delicious fish curry, and meat curry with a variety of vegetable dishes with rice or chapatis. The food at all meals was excellent.
The hosts Pixi & Ivan are friendly, warm and very accommodating & between them speak several Indian languages and fluent English. 
We went to the junction of the Jumna & Ganga river for a boat ride & to the Agricultural institute for delicious freshly made ice cream &kulfi during our day in Allahabad. 

They also have a farm stay called Lonikot. We also went there, and were totally enchanted with the place. It is another very comfortable place built on the banks of a river. Again, everything was very clean, with great attention to detail.
The best aspect of Lonikot were the numerous birds we could watch all day, and the stunning sunset. There are several historic sites to visit from Lonikot as well, if you have access to a car. Once again the food at Lonikot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was excellent. You can choose whether to stay in for lunch or not. They have a small plunge pool, which would be lovely in hot weather, but when we went it was overcast & cold, so we didn’t use the pool.
Both home stays are Highly Recommended!!

Our trip was just fantastic-thanks to our wonderful hosts-Mr and Mrs Ivan
Our accommodation was clean and comfortable-the staff were courteous and all our meals were delicious.
Our hosts,Mr and Mrs Ivan were so warm and accommodating-going way beyond what's expected in a B&B
They helped organise our daily trips and even called to check if we were safe and comfortable
Clearly -Mr and Mrs Ivan have taken ,"HOSPITALITY TO AN ALL NEW EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH LEVEL"

Stay at Kanchan Villa Allahabad

We stayed for 4 nights in this stunning jewel of a property during our visit to the Kumbh festival in February 2019. The hosts are ethical good Christians; when 150 million visitors descend into Allahabad during the Kumbh festival, every hotel in town triples its tariff. It is remarkable that the owners were an exception to this rule. 

One meets a wide cross section of people from around the world who are staying there at any given time. (For example, Prudence, sister of Mia Farrow about who the Beatles wrote the iconic song “Dear Prudence “ had been an earlier guest.)  One can see clearly that the hosts are in this hospitality field not for the money but genuinely enjoy it, especially interacting with the guests. The property is maintained to 4 Star standards in its decor, comfort and cleanliness; the food is superb and very inexpensive. Overall, the experience is that of staying in a Parisian salon a century ago.

The hosts have recently started another operation which is an eco-friendly 6-room villa on the banks of the river Ganges with large acreage an hour away. Most of the food served at Kanchan Villa as well as at this eco-friendly villa is organically grown in their fields. We seriously recommend combining a visit there with a stay at Kanchan Villa. The ambience of the place is something we have only seen in European agro-tourism digs, not in India.

The hosts had been tea planters in remote hills of Kerala earlier in their life. One can see how they have carried that valuable experience- of providing a Raj -era charm from bygone times into running Kanchan Villa. The building itself has been in their family since the 1930’s and has that same Raj-era charm.

An oasis of tranquility, beauty and aesthetics

The hosts were really welcoming, we couldn't have asked for more. Before we arrived they were kind enough to help us with an ongoing journey and booked train tickets.
We enjoyed their company at meal times and their generous hospitality. 
The staff were willing and quite helpful but limited English. 
 The location opposite a busy wedding venue isn't so great and along with the dogs constantly barking it wasn't very peaceful. 
Our downstairs room was rather dark and a little cold,the bathroom had limited hot water. The upstairs rooms looked lighter and opened onto a nice terrace. We did not feel our room was very private.

Welcoming Hosts

When i read a few negative reviews of kanchan villa I chose to ignore them and decided to stay here. I was very disappointed to say the least. Although the owner ( on the phone) and the staff were polite and helpful I dont recommend a stay here as the location is terrible, smelly and filthy and not the 4250( single room) they charge
Cons:
1.Location is filthy and not easily reachable
2.If the Open sewer running along the property wasnt disgusting enough and there is a garbage dump right there as well.
3. Very very noisy. The barking dogs and the loud staff add to the noise pollution from the neighboring roads and buildings
4. Highly Overpriced for a homestay considering the negatives
Pros
1. House is charming
2. Some rooms are nice altho mine ( bougainvillea room)seemed like an attic made into a bedroom and was bad
3. Staff is polite and helpful
4. Rooms were fairly clean
I thought it would be a better choice than the allahabad hotels but when i stayed in different budget hotels after i checked out I found them to be very good and clean so i d give this a miss on my next visit.
