A perfect jungle lodge . Located deep in the woods it’s a paradise for all nature / Wildlife lovers . Clean rooms & Wash . Service is excellent by the Satff . The food part can be improved. Highly recommend property . 

Very good jungle lodge 

Located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve, this place is ideal for couples or families or large groups. They have many rooms and all are well appointed. The staff is very cooperative and positive in approach. The restaurant has a nice ambience and serves good food - both buffet and a la carte.
Some things to bear in mind:
There's no entry or exit from the hotel after 5:30 PM. So, if you're looking to explore things like the Kalaripauattu or dance programs in Kumily town in evening, you may not be happy staying here.
The boat landing point is a walkable distance away. But at times, walking may not be allowed if there's an incident enroute.
Ideal to come here in your own vehicle. Hotel staff call for a rickshaw if asked for, which charges Rs 150 to and fro the town.
Being a forest lodge, there are a lot of monkeys around, so not advisable to sit out or walk around with eatables in hand.
There's no laundry service.
Payments can be made by card/cash/UPI.
All things considered, it's a very good place to stay if you want to enjoy the serenity and quietness of nature.

Very good stay amidst the quiet of nature

Stayed in Women week with Great discounts, helping staffs, warm and friendly reception,nature walk &jungle view is awesome.Very cool and relaxing atmosphere.We enjoyed and recommends all.
Two suggestions - Make sure good connection of mobile network, WiFi connection and include more non veg items.

Wonderful experience!!!

It was such a refreshing feeling to stay in the  middle of the forest, so full of fresh air, calm and peaceful surroundings. This hotel has a well maintained courtyard with swings and play area for children. Serene atmosphere, especially in the early morning hours is a bliss. We heard lots of birds humming, whistling and singing loud. Food is remarkable. Staff are extremely polite and helpful. They arranged us tickets for boating. Rooms are old style but very well maintained. All together our experience at KTDC was just awesome. Special thanks to Mr. Pradeep, staff, who was very friendly and shared some good stories. 

Thekkady trip

Its a nice place to be in

Mr. Sudhakaran is the life of the hotel, he is always there to help you. 

A retired army veteran, who also understand Hindi. He is at the entrance and will help you with all your queries. 

I liked Gavi more than Thekkady. In periyar house the gates close by 5  so you cant visit the kathakali, kalaripattu etc as they only start after 530. Otherwise the place is decent.

In the forest

Awesome stay the staffs are the best. 
The hotel is inside Periyar Tiger Reserve.
The boating location is nearby.
The boatingbon Periyar river is out of this world experience. We could spot wild elephnats too.
Just be careful that there are monkeys in the hotel premises so dont carry any packet or food in your hand.

A must visit in Thekkady 

Stayed at PH, after previously staying at AN couple of years back
PH has hostel type rooms with a play area for children
Good rooms and sufficient hot water, 
Lots of parking
Need to keep room doors and windows closed due to monkey presence 7AM to 6PM. Mornings they will be crusiing down the room corridors...:-) Also to be careful not to hold any food item in your hands.
We had a good stay and the hosts made special provisions for us (Kudos to KTDC team Saju, Praveen and Binny and team)
Evening and night-time we can see porcupines, wild pigs and deer in and around the PH campus. Also sometimes bear and elephants as well, it seems.

As in all jungle resorts there is a curfew time (5.30) by which we need to be in the hotel... cant walk around after 5.30PM .

All in all, a true jungle style experience.

A close to nature experience

The KTDC Periyar House Jungle Lodge is a truly beautiful property, serenity at its best. Well maintained, clean, very cheerful, helpful staff.

But it was by far the most stressful stay we’ve ever had anywhere, because…monkeys! Monkeys everywhere, snatching things right off your hands. As soon as we got out of our cars, the security came running, asking us not to have any plastic covers/bags in our hands, not even bottled water! Apparently, the monkeys are constantly on the lookout for food and can get furious if we pull back something they snatch. 

For young parents travelling with a toddler, it was a nightmare for us. We put our luggage in our rooms and was so relieved to see that all the windows had protective netting to keep the monkeys out. after lunch, when we stepped out for a stroll, we saw a lady stepping out of her car and a monkey snatching off her handbag and scuttling up a tree! The animal literally emptied her bag and all the content were strewn around. And as we gaped, another one sneaked up to our mom, snatched off our baby's milk bottle...and was so disappointed that it was empty, it dismantled the bottle into multiple parts and threw it all over the well kept garden!

Thekkedy is awesome, but we don't think we'll ever return, because vacations are not for stress! The tree stars is purely because of the monkeys. It really ruined our experience :( Such a sad thing for such a beautifully kept government-run space!

Stressful stay in a beautiful property!

This hotel is in the middle of jungle and great place to spent time with family. Since it is inside the jungle we should follow instructions by hotel officials. 
Though this is budget hotel  most of the food served in morning and night were great and appreciated the cleanliness

Great location to stay

I chose to be in Periyar Tiger Reserve while staying in Periyar house. The hotel has nice spacious rooms with basic amenities (do not expect mini bar, kettle, in room dining options, personalised services etc). You have to reach here by 5:30 PM on any given day considering this is in forest area.

Positives were -
• lovely surrounding
• courteous staff 
• Periyar lake in 800 m
• hot water 24*7 available

Things which can get better -
• I checked if they have first aid (was looking for eno) they said they do not keep medicines. Looking at that we cannot step out after 5:30 PM, they should consider keeping basic medicines
• no a la carte option, you pay for buffet every time
• regional channels on tv

If you are looking for some time out to a peaceful place, this can be it!
