I had an absolutely fantastic time at Shiva guest house!
The food was absolutely delicious (as well as affordable) and the rooms are very clean and comfortable.
However Shiva Guest House's best quality by an absolute mile is the friendly and helpful staff! 
I loved chilling upstairs in the common area and Anand especially made me feel right at home!

Great staff and location

It's quite close to the City Palace, though it's a bit difficult to find. The rooftop offers a relaxing view. 
I didn't stay there, but the restaurant is very good, the food delicious and plenty. Staff is quite helpful though they don't speak a lot of english.

Worth for eating

I have spent a week in the guesthouse and enjoyed lots of mornings and sunsets on the beautiful and quiet rooftop restaurant. The view is amazing, food is delicious and always fresh and the staff is so helpful..felt like home :-)

Just perfect...

Had sunset beers up here and it's great view and quiet - only a couple of tables so was very relaxed.

The host vikram is very nice and chatted to us and made us feel welcome

Great views of the lake + lovely host 

A friend and I stayed here for nearly four weeks and we were treated like it was our home. The owners and staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as wonderful as it was. 
The guesthouse is tucked away in a a small street five minutes walk from the City Palace, with superb views of Lake Pichola from the upper rooms and the rooftop restaurant. 
The rooms are large, bright, clean and airy. There is no AC, just a ceiling fan, which was sufficient at that time of year. The bed was comfortable with plenty of blankets. The bathroom was also large and clean with plenty of hot water. The view from the huge window was spectacular, so relaxing to just sit and look. 
The restaurant serves a good variety of food, the best butter toast I've had in India!
There is an open terrace above the restaurant with a panoramic view of the lake, a perfect place to soak up the winter sunshine. 
All this for a budget price! 
It is not a luxury hotel, there were a few small inconveniences, but I will happily go back. 
I sincerely recommend Shiva Guest House.
